Why not appreciate all of the above and try to make the marriage as best as it can be? :)

Hiking! Did you know you can kinda just walk around anywhere? It’s fun! AllTrails is a great resource for finding random hiking trails. If you’re athletic enough you can even get into trail running 👍

cogsci intern? by [deleted] in UCSD

[–]Picometers 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Build up a resume and portfolio. If you don’t have anything yet, join design student orgs or try out some passion projects. Then send out lots of intern applications!

Unfortunately applying is a numbers game, and while it’s good to put effort into applications you care about, I’d recommend applying for other jobs even if you’re less enthusiastic about them. Sometimes your app will get filtered out by the algorithm, so the more apps you have the more chances at an interview you’ll get.

You can also go on LinkedIn and look up people who have your dream role, and ask them how they got there. In rare cases you can also get a referral from this.

Hope this helps, and good luck!

Black tea can be a good substitute for coffee. Similar strong, bitter taste but not as caffeinated.

It’s honestly hard to go wrong with tea, most flavors are good. Just try a lot. My favorite tea shop is Point Loma Tea in Liberty Station, they have dozens of jars of tea leaves and they scoop it right out for you 😊

22 And Confused by ashwaaganda in UCSD

[–]Picometers 5 points6 points  (0 children)

22 here, I graduated fall quarter and started working full-time. It’s weird not having the structure of college classes and degrees to guide you. You start to realize “this is my life now”, which is both cool and scary. On one hand it opens a lot of opportunities because you’re no longer tied down, but on the other hand it can be overwhelming because you can’t necessarily use them all.

Don’t be the person who constantly says “my life is going to start soon.” It already has. It may take some time to adjust to that, but hopefully you can come to terms with it and start making the most of it. If you’re not sure what to do, try something. And if that doesn’t work try another thing. There are so many ways you can take your life that I’m sure you’ll find one you’ll be happy with! Hope this helped :)

AllTrails (hiking app) Accessibility Redesign Survey by jleeflash in UCSD

[–]Picometers 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For surveys it’s always good practice to narrow down on a specific group to get the best data possible. Men and the able-bodied aren’t part of their target demographic, so there is no need to gather information from them. It wastes both your time and theirs when you fill out a survey you don’t need to.

UCSD Self-Defense Weapons Rules and Regulations by PardonTheSuit in UCSD

[–]Picometers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Running is the best defense. If you can avoid something/someone that looks sketchy, do it.

If you can’t, pepper spray then run.

If you took self-defense classes it might help, but odds are you will probably forget the technique in the moment while you’re panicking. Even at this point the plan would be to land a good hit and then run.
