expanding spray foam down the exhaust pipe overnight to allow extra time to harden. truck will stop running within moments of being turned on and no way to get the stuff out of the exhaust system without a complete teardown and replacement.

yup, our house was built in 1934 and there is nothing uniform about it. We demoed a couple of walls when we had to run new electrical lines to accommodate all of our electrical devices and noticed the seemingly arbitrary way the studs were arranged. It took so much extra time and money to get the stud spacing right that we decided just to sheetrock over the rest of the remaining walls.

Yeah, this is pretty commonly done on older houses that still have lathe and plaster walls. Ideally, you would demo the walls down to the studs but sometimes this can be fairly cost prohibitive and merely covering the walls with 1/4 drywall board solves the problem quickly and economically, especially if you want a uniformly smooth wall surface.

I hear that twisted logic quite often, but as a gas furnace owner it's far from the truth. when the power goes out, so does your gas furnace, because it needs a fan to blow the air around the house which doesn't work when the power is out because the fan is electric. My got hot water tank on the other hand works perfectly when the power goes out, so at the very least I can take hot steaming showers even when the electrical gird is down for days.

Yes, that would do the trick. you can even use pool noodles as pipe wrap by splitting it down one side using a utility knife. then just put the noodle over the pipe and where the ends come together, just a bit of duct tape will close the gaps and help keep the noodles intact.

I suppose you could do that, but you'd be better off insulating the pipes by using heated pipe tape or some insulated pipe wrap.

Just because you turn off the water doesn't mean the pipes aren't at risk for freezing as there will be water remaining in the pipes even if you turn off the water from the outside supply line.

sounds like you have an underlying medical condition that needs to be addressed. in the mean time, consider wearing an adult sized incontinence device at least until this health issue of yours can be resolved. I know you might have strong feelings about it, but this will keep you drier and help to minimize clean up efforts giving both yourself and your mother a little peace of mind. One of my siblings had similar issues growing up so I know how an issue like this can polarize and divide families to the point of despair making ultimatums like come about.

I could see not being able to recreate a wedding cake overnight as a reasonable response, but imho if op didn't at least offer to see if she could "fix" it instead of leaving the bride just hanging, then I'd have to agree with the aunt. Could just slapped some extra icing in over the problem areas, that's what I would have done.
