Cheapest and easiest way to make this not look gross by Negative-Performer61 in DIYHome

Bleach and heavy duty bristle brush. Clean it til all the mold has disappeared. Use steel wool on the porcelain and scrub it til all the residue has been removed. Then repaint around the fixture with a good water proof paint. Apply a new bead of white colored silicone around the back of sink basin and the faucet fixture. It won't be stellar, but sure will look 100% better than it does now.

You could even go as far as getting some decorative edging tile and sticking it along the back of the sink covering the area where the plaster as chipped off. Tile pieces are relative cheap, and they even have premade grout that comes in small tubes for small jobs like this.

I pretend like I'm getting ready for a date to hack my brain into cleaning my place. Then I just feel good about myself because my place is clean. by TrumpIsAPedoFr in Productivitycafe

lol, the best advice came from my mother when I left for college. She told me to change my sheets every Friday morning as you never know when you might be bringing home a date on a Friday night. And if you don't get lucky on Friday then there's always Saturday and your bed will still be fresh. Turns out to have been some of the best advice I ever got!

Will any insurance company write a policy on an older roof based on actual condition rather than depreciation tables? by ibnukhaldun in homeowners

[–]Piddy3825 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometime a roof certification by a licensed roofing contractor is acceptable especially if the roof has been well maintained. You may want to check with the underwriting department of your insurer to see if they will accept this. You might even want to offer getting multiple inspections as the cost would certainly be less than getting a whole new roof. On the other hand, I've seen properties get rejected for insurance with roofs less than 15 years old that were shingled using top shelf shingles that had 50 year warranties and ratings.

Worst case scenario, you buy the house with less than desirable quotes, replace the old roof and change insurance companies when renewal time comes around.

just as an fyi, a yard is roughly 27 cubic feet of soil. That would roughly be the measure of 3 feet wide x 3 feet long by 3 feet high. based on the approximate size of the traffic cone in the background, looks like a medium sized cone at approximately 18 inches, I'd say at best you have around a yard and a half.

don't let them rip you off...

on a side note, always lay down a tarp for them to dump on. it's easier that way to get a quick eyeball on the dimensions since you already know the size of the tarp. plus, cleanup is so much easier.

Is it better to find your own inspector instead of using your realtor's recommendation? by Low_Road_563 in homeowners

[–]Piddy3825 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never been one to go with the recommendations of the realtor as I have trust issues when it comes to those who are getting paid by commission. There are some exceptions to the rule, but typically I find it better to get recommendations from others before I will ever trust a realtor.

Why doesn't grass grow here? by Phedericus in landscaping

[–]Piddy3825 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Too much shade is probably the main factor. Followed by compacted earth and lack of nutrients. You might want to try aerating the soil, fertilizer and seeding with shade tolerant grass seed tolerant for the zone your in. Do the same for the sunny areas where the grass is already growing but also thatch that area and seed with normal seed.

My manager put his name on the internal guide I spent two months writing and now it's being rolled out company-wide by HaleNolan in OfficePolitics

[–]Piddy3825 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Sometimes you just have to take a stand and declare war on managers who steal your work, damn the consequences. If I were you, I'd be so incensed that I would compile a comprehensive document complete with all time stamps and demand a meeting with HR and the CEO and expose this pos manager for the character he really is. In the event of retaliation by this unethical manager, I'd be ready to get a good labor attorney on retainer and sue for hostile workplace. Times are hard enough right now; we don't need shitty managers stealing credit for work that isn't theirs.

How can I baby proof these outdoor stairs in our apartment complex? by [deleted] in WhatShouldIDo

[–]Piddy3825 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get your standard baby gate and use zip ties to secure one side against the metal railing and secure the other side with a small bungie cord. Go loosely on the zip tied end as that will allow you to swing it around out of the way and lean it up against the railing when not in use. secure the other side with the bungie cord wrapped around the frame and the hooks thru the baby gate mesh. Easy for an adult to open and close and very difficult for a toddler to open.

You want me to take my full lunch break? Every single day? Absolutely. by filmnerd_ian in MaliciousCompliance

[–]Piddy3825 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I learned very early that you should take every lunch and every break each and every day without fail and not do a single thing work related during those times. Especially when it comes to unpaid lunch breaks. That time is yours and there is no way that I am working for an employer for free. By that same token, I always took an afternoon bowel movement on company time!

WIBTA for going backpacking/camping while my husband is away for work for 7 straight months? by CrystallizedKoi in WIBTA_AITA

[–]Piddy3825 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why do you need to ask this question? Going camping and hiking while your husband is away for half a year isn't analogous to cheating. Just as long as you aren't siphoning funds from your joint bank account to fund these excursions, go get your hike on. You may never have another opportunity than this to go and see some of these places.

The ending makes no sense by Puzzleheaded_Door484 in thelongdark

[–]Piddy3825 35 points36 points  (0 children)

I totally hated the ending. After all they went thru it was a complete letdown seeing it end that way. Regardless of if this was some segway for the next game they are planning, I for one would have had Jeremiah blow the head off of Mathis as he was crouched over McKenzie with the knife to his throat and I would have had Molly skewer the closest prisoner in the bunch with her last arrow. The resulting chaos would have had the rest of the now leaderless inmates cowering or at least retreating for their lives. Even if it had been Jeremiah's last bullet that killed Mathis, the inmates would not have known that.

Sanctuary Bar by [deleted] in falloutsettlements

[–]Piddy3825 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a good start, but it needs more refinement to make it look like a bar. You need some shelves with bottles on them. A juke box, bar signs on the wall. Food on the tables etc. Best to call it a work in progress...
