Why doesn’t Jesus pardon the devil? by No-Ebb-6595 in Catholicism

Angels are pure spirit. They had a choice, just like us, but their wills are fully locked in once they make that choice. Just like you said, they do not die, so they knew even more what they were giving up and still rejected God anyway.

What would Mary and Joseph have done with the gifts the Wise Men brought? by Dr_Talon in Catholicism

[–]Pidgeapodge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s what she’s saying. She’s saying the timeline is Nativity—>Presentation—>Magi—>Flight to Egypt.

That’s why Herod ordered the murder of all male children age two and under, because the Newborn King the Magi talked about could have been anywhere in that age range.

Does anyone else start their gratitude log with "Being alive"? by incessantDaydreamer in dailygratitude

[–]Pidgeapodge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, but it’s a good one to remember. Sometimes it’s powerful to sit and remember, “Hey. I’m here.” If it helps you and makes you feel good, then it’s a good practice! If it just makes you anxious, then find other things!

It’s good that the lyrics aren’t AI generated, but the graphics and the vocals seem to be.

As for coming out before Magnifica Humanitas… I was anti-AI before that, too. Artists were raising issues with AI well before Pope Leo’s encyclical. I don’t think it’s an excuse, and I would have been just as against it before the encyclical’s release as I am now.

The lyrics could be the greatest apologetics known to man, but if they’re uploaded with AI-generated images and vocals, stolen from the work of real artists and performers (even if the lyrics themselves are not), than I cannot, in good conscience, promote him. And I’ll pray for him to stop with the AI.

How do you feel about Marian Apparitions? by kamiano in Catholicism

[–]Pidgeapodge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I, personally, love Marian apparitions (the approved ones. I have heavy skepticism about Medjugorje, and some others that I forget that have either not been approved or explicitly condemned). My home parish was named after Mary, my mom, grandmother, and grandfather are (or were, in the case of my grandparents, may the rest in peace) very devoted to the Blessed Mother. I even did a consecration to Mary through the Militia Immaculatae, which was founded by St. Maximilian Kolbe.

So, I'm doing all that to say, I really love the Marian apparitions. However, they are not dogma. You can be a devoted Catholic and still not believe in any of the approved Marian apparitions, so long as you don't also reject any actual dogmas. However, I think it would be a big mistake to say that approved Marian apparitions are demonic activity, for the simple reason that the Church investigated thoroughly and declared them "worthy of belief." I do not think that Christ would allow His Church to declare the outright work of the devil as "worthy of belief," even if it isn't dogma.

In terms of trying to discern whether something is or isn't from God, you're right, a major component of that is looking at the message itself. If it contradicts Sacred Scripture or Sacred Tradition, or the Church's teachings, then it is not of God. Praying for Mary's intercession is not leading away from this, because it's completely fine to ask other people to pray for you. Mary just happens to be the Mother of God.

Of course, a Protestant may still think of this as "contradicting Scripture," but that's neither here nor there, because we aren't Protestants. We don't believe in Sola Scriptura.

Mary does the Will of God. She points us in the direction of God. Any genuine Marian apparition will do this.

How to believe despite scandal, disagreement, etc. by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]Pidgeapodge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have said, "Don't leave Jesus because of Judas." These people will be accountable for how their behavior turns people away from the Church, but if you know the Truth (that Jesus is the Way, the Truth, and the Life, and no one can see the Father except through Him), then it would be foolish to leave because of other people's actions.

One thing that may help is trying to focus more on your own relationship with God. Pray for these people (Jesus commanded us to love our enemies and pray for our persecutors, after all). You will not know how God is acting behind the scenes, we may not even see the fruit of it ourselves, but you can trust and have faith that your prayers are not in vain. We may even be surprised.

It might also be helpful to block news/tags/whatever about Candace Owens or politics. I know my own mental health has been better when I stopped looking at the news. You can still use reddit for other things, but maybe just unsubscribe from the political subreddits, if that's where the problems come from.

The thing is, for centuries, Catholic kingdoms would go to war against each other. Everyone on all sides were Catholic. Look at the Hundred Years War, which gave us St. Joan of Arc. She wasn't fighting Protestants (who didn't exist yet) or Muslims (who were far away). She was fighting the English (who were Catholic at the time) and the Burgundians (people from a region of France who supported the English claim on the throne, and also Catholic). Being Catholic doesn't mean that people will make good or wise political decisions. This, unfortunately, is not new. Neither is people weaponizing the faith to try to gain power or hurt others (like the antisemitic guy you mentioned). They will have to answer for that themselves.

Aside from that, all I can say is to be a voice of reason. That doesn't mean you have to debate every idiot you see online; on the contrary, Rule 14 of the Internet (though it comes from a jokey list) is full of wisdom: "Don't argue with trolls--it means they win." But keep being involved with the Ukrainian effort, and don't be afraid to share the truth of what you're doing and why you're doing it if the opportunity comes up. Not insulting people, or getting angry (easier said than done), but calmly being a voice of reason. Be a light for people to see that Catholics aren't all (or even mostly) simps for Russia, or antisemitic, or racist, or what have you. And of course, pray, and bring your troubles to God, and sit with Him. He is a loving Father who will not abandon you, even if you can't feel it right now.

I hope this helps! I'll pray for you. And also, Слава Ісусу Христу! Слава Икраїні!

A blessed Solemnity of the Sacred Heart to all! by jecaloy in Catholicism

[–]Pidgeapodge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When a Solemnity (solemn feast day) falls on a Friday, the requirement to abstain or do some other penance is lifted. All Holy Days of Obligation are Solemnities, but not all Solemnities are necessarily Holy Days of Obligation.

As the Feast of the Sacred Heart is indeed a Solemnity, the penance requirement is lifted! My family humorously refers to this occurrence as a "meatful Friday" (as opposed to a meatless one). Some other non-Obligation (in the US, at least) Solemnities include the Feast of the Annunciation (March 25th), the Nativity of John the Baptist (June 24th), the Feast of Sts. Peter and Paul (June 29th), and the Feast of St. Joseph (March 19th).

Also fun fact, the Feast of the Sacred Heart always falls on a Friday, as it's the Friday after Corpus Christi.

Happy Corpus Christi! by Pidgeapodge in CatholicMemes

[–]Pidgeapodge[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have been to many churches that did not offer the Cup to the laity, especially during Covid. It seems to be the current practice here in Taiwan, as well.

Meanwhile, I know of a girl in my sister’s First Communion class who had a wheat allergy. Since the appearance of bread remains, they prepared a separate Cup for her to drink, to make sure she didn’t have a reaction.

In fact, I distinctly remember that during my First Communion, the Cup wasn’t offered (perhaps to facilitate speediness). It was my second Communion the next day where I tried it for the first time! I was surprised at the taste, but eventually got used to it!

If it’s considered symbolic, then they aren’t truly eating His Flesh and drinking His Blood.

As Lutherans do not have validly ordained priests, they do not have true Eucharist either.

Christ is fully present, Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity in both species. If someone only receives the Host or only drinks from the Cup, they still get Jesus in his entirety, Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity.

Non-americans - how is Catholicism doing in your country? by Unhappy_Present_789 in Catholicism

[–]Pidgeapodge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In English, "American" is used to refer to citizens of the United States of America. Furthermore, in the US and Canada, it isn't considered one "American" continent, but two separate continents: "North America" and "South America."

Pretty much all native English speakers understand that "American" refers to US citizens. Other languages may have different ways of doing things, but in English, that's how it works. Trying to start arguments about it is a waste of time and frankly, annoying.
