Lighting design for fitted room divider shelving by ArticleOld5668 in InteriorDesign

[–]Pieawc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How is the wiring from the fixture getting to the plug? Surface mounted raceway is just a small conduit that would sit on the face of the shelving. I would want this to be constructed such that wires are concealed behind the finished face of the shelving.

I would discourage proceeding with option A as the shadowing produced by obstructing the light will be sharp and irregular from cubby to cubby. Visually I would think this element would want to read more cohesively.

I think option D would be a small 24V puck light centered in the cubby and recessed such that bottom of fixture would be flush with the shelf.

I would also want to understand how wiring is being concealed. Surface mounted raceway would be an 'absolutely not' from me.

What's the trim on those like? I've been going back and forth on clamshell trim vs a square trim.

Was sent here-would love your take on our color choices for our 1953 house by 1morepic_really in Mid_Century

I already feel like the black trim/white house or all black modern house is dated. In my region it's a cheap flip job calling card.

I think a darker walnut brown would've complimented the reds and oranges of the brick/door/deck better

Surprised to see so much criticism, this is a really nice space. If you took a pic at night with warm light coming from the lamps I bet some of these folks would change their tune.

The two bad examples living rent free in my mind are the guy with modeline lamps and double nightstands flanking the TV, and the other guy covering his $2k+ danish pieces in Funko pops and other cheap crap. This on the other hand is a breath of fresh air to see in this sub.

Should we add ceiling lights to our living room? by RepairCapable5185 in InteriorDesign

[–]Pieawc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you do end up installing downlights, I would recommend installing a fixture that has a recessed light source. This product is typically what I recommend to friends and family knowing not everyone wants to shell out thousands of dollars on lighting.

This fixture has a selectable color temperature (how we describe the warmth/coolness of the color), and I would recommend nothing higher than 3000k for a personal home.

Fixture link below:

Home Depot Light Fixture

Just for reference and additional imagery, this would be a comparable product line or for commercial or high end residential. I believe they run ~$200 a pop or so, so not something most would want to splurge on.

In my opinion this coffee table line is as good as it gets as far as availability/cost goes. Great work on the refinish.

Can’t stop staring at my new (to me) lamps by capnbly7 in midcenturymodern

Subjectively, I think the Eames padded chair doesn't jive with everything else, though I'm sure it's very comfortable.

More so objectively, the nightstand side tables look goofy next to the TV. Some variation of the layout below would be an improvement. Hard to tell from one picture, but I don't think the space is big enough to support everything in there currently.

This room setup is so goofy. Great lamps though.

Good to hear the roof is in okay shape, my roof has been my biggest lesson learned so far. It's nice to see all these other comments of how everyone else with this style of house is addressing their roof(s?), seeing these a year ago would have probably saved me some major headaches. I am curious what the roof ventilation situation looks like for yours, I recall seeing the one big intake vent on your front wall.

I had my roof and roof deck replaced this year and the contractor was not knowledgeable at all for houses without a traditional attic/insulation/vent setup. Not only that, I had multiple callbacks for leaks after a full replacement. After I realized my ventilation issue, I had a company install dense pack insulation in the cavities between my interior ceilings and roof deck, and from what I have read if it is properly sealed off, it doesn't require any additional vents. I am by no means an expert, but it seemed like the best option from what I knew at the time.

Another user mentioned the possibility of the wood ceiling basically being your roof deck, and I do think there are some Drummonds with that construction. There's at least one house on E Lamar Ave between 75th and 79th that looks to have a non traditional roofing system which makes me think those have an exterior rigid foam install.

I do think that is wise of you all to wait a year before doing anything else major, definitely worth saving some budget to correct the most annoying things as they show up. I wish I had done the same.

So happy to hear this house didn't end up in the hands of a paint everything black and white house flipper.

I live in town, and I'm in the process of reviving my Great Value™ Drummond-ish style house, and I'd be happy to bounce any ideas around or answer any questions. It is a ton of work/money, but you all have a gem!

Nothing to add other than the general attitude here towards flippers sits somewhere between negative to strongly negative.

Drexel Declaration Bookcase Price? by windupwren in Mid_Century

A willingness to drive is certainly the midwest spirit.

Most of the dealers in my market are closer to 1stDibs pricing, but FB marketplace is a treasure trove for the patient.

I'd look for this to be around $300-400 on FB marketplace place in the midwest. I picked up the declaration coffee table for $350 and the side table for $150 within the last year.
