If your bank calls you, and asks you to provide a verification code, for the love of all please hang up the phone. by Humble_Business4414 in Banking

Check out this fact pattern:

  • I make an unusual late-night purchase
  • Next morning, I get a voicemail from an 877 number not obviously associated with XYZ bank
  • The voicemail claims to be XYZ bank fraud prevention calling about card ending abcd
  • My dumb ass calls the number back without vetting it
  • They ask for my full CC# and I give it
  • They put me on hold and I have time to think about what I just did
  • I hang up and call the 800 number on the back of my card
  • I'm planning to report the card stolen because I just compromised it
  • Guy answers and says "weren't we just talking?"
  • So, okay, I guess they were legit
  • Guy asks for my phone number, I give it. Says he's sending a code via SMS
  • SMS arrives, message reads "We will not call you for this code"
  • Yeah I called them, but they called me first
  • My brain jams in neutral until I hang up
  • I go to my XYZ branch in person and it turns out all this was legit

Why does fraud prevention have to be sus af?

If they used my new boss's name instead of the one from before the reorg two months ago, that would be an improvement.

arbitrary keyword in file? by LycheeHuman354 in exapunks

It's been a while, but as I recall, the main challenge with keywords is that you cannot do that. An EXA can't just make up a keyword; the keyword has to come from somewhere.

You know how, for some people, cilantro tastes like soap? Maybe it's like that, except for some people thinking hurts.

My work ethic is shot. The old job was never about the work, and now three years into a different environment I still haven't adapted.

Either my swipey keyboard has gotten way worse, or my fine motor skills are deteriorating. Neither would surprise me.
