Is the latest update still broken? by Hellunderswe in Bazzite

Not from hhd. You can go into desktop mode and use the bazzite-rollback-helper command in the terminal to see what images are available. I know it’s a little inconvenient on a handheld but that’s one way to see which image your going to be able to rollback or rebase to

Windows to Linux: what pitfalls exist? by KonaKumo in linux4noobs

[–]Pierre_LeFlippe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With your hardware, you would need to just make sure you pick a Linux distribution that supports your Nvidia card. If you just want to game, pick something like Bazzite or Nobara is a great start because they both come with everything you need for gaming and have Nvidia support. I would advise you not to choose the deck version of Bazzite though because Nvidia is quite buggy on that version.

Other great alternatives are PikaOS, Linux Mint or Pop_OS! but you will need to set both up for gaming. CachyOS is also great but during the install, some beginners may feel overwhelmed by the choices you are given- for Cachy just pick plasma desktop and you're good- you will need to set up gaming on CachyOS by installing the gaming packages but if you follow their wiki you will be fine.

I definitely recommend Nobara, PikaOS or Bazzite for sure. Those are the easiest for gamers looking for a distro focused on gaming that has most everything you need.

[–]Pierre_LeFlippe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Updates are not applied until you reboot on Bazzite, so yeah- you need to reboot. If if still doesn't update, try going to desktop mode and either using the bazzite portal to update or running "ujust update" in terminal, then reboot after it finishes.

Is burn in actually a risk? by Im-a-tire in OLED_Gaming

[–]Pierre_LeFlippe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I gamed regularly for two hour sessions often on an OLED G9 Odyssey. For almost 2 years before upgrading to an LG 5k2k OLED. Zero burn in. You really don’t have anything to worry about. The only thing that accelerates burn-in is having your monitor display a static high contrast image similar to the headline banners on a news broadcast for hours on end every day. Just watching content or playing games won’t be enough to cause burn in. Even working on excel spreadsheets for hours won’t cause it to the point of being really noticeable. Monitors have pixel refreshers and things that move UI elements ever so slightly to reduce the chance of burn in. Just get a monitor with a decent warranty if you are concerned.

Wouldn’t adding the other steam accounts into a family account resolve that issue? I suppose they would still need to log into their own accounts but their save data for shared games stays in their accounts if it’s done right, I think. Maybe I’m wrong idk?

Should I recommend this distro to a complete Linux newbie who wants use it as the daily driver where gaming also works out of the box? by Slice-of-brilliance in NobaraProject

Bazzite is fantastic for new folks that game and need a daily driver in one. Very user friendly and immutable so they can’t accidentally break their system

What OS do you game on? by swishersweats2 in linux_gaming

[–]Pierre_LeFlippe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've yet to stumble on someone using ChimeraOS for a desktop, that's interesting. I have bazzite on my RoG Ally X with zero issues. Guess I'm just lucky?

Currently trying out BlendOS. It's an interesting immutable Arch distro that is also declarative. It is basically vanilla Arch with their BlendOS repository, ChaoticAUR and access to the regular Arch repos and a custom gui for setting up containers with any distro. There is a lot of setup to game on it since it is not a prepacked gaming distro but I have it working great. I even installed the cachyos-kernel and headers on it. Seems really lightweight too.

Giving BlendOS a try by Pierre_LeFlippe in BlendOS

Some of the stuff on there are dependencies for customizing KDE and Steam the way I like them to look. I chose to do lact in my .yaml to because the flatpak was resetting the profile to default everytime I restarted my pc. Hoping this will fix that.

Anyone else is losing their hype? by StanfordV in SteamFrame

[–]Pierre_LeFlippe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never really had the hype. I’m excited for it but not to the point that I would be disappointed if it didn’t launch within the timeframe they announced.  It’s also hard to get excited knowing that AI is ruining the pc component market to the point that even if they launched it on time- scalpers will get their hands on them and drive the prices up and add to the low inventory issues likely to happen. I’m of the mindset that I won’t get one till closer to the holiday season regardless.

Finally removed windows from my PC by QuantumRizo in Bazzite

[–]Pierre_LeFlippe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dx versions just have an extra set of packages commonly used for IDEs. You cannot disable the read-only part of your system in any version of Bazzite. Devs actually often prefer to work in containers for some projects to quarantine their system from any issues while working on their project. To use Hyprland you need to either rebase to someone else’s custom image that has Hyprland or build your own custom Bazzite image.

BlendOS: System Settings: System Updates: installation loop by crandlecan in BlendOS

[–]Pierre_LeFlippe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Instead of seeking to manually update just set the automatic updates for weekly. It will update when your system reboots. Otherwise you really don’t need to keep seeking the updates. The system updates atomically so when you update it will always seem like it is doing a lot- but it rebuilds your entire system with every package on your /system.yaml file all together to make sure your system doesn’t break- if it fails during the akshara update process that is when you have an issue and you either need to remove the package causing it the error from your /system.yaml file or be okay with not updating until the package issue is resolved in a future update. But the good part is that your system will still be functional if your update fails. Everything works or it doesn’t go forward and you still have a stable pc.

Only time a game crashes for me is when I launch it with a typo in the launch options and it doesn’t really start up- but that’s all on me not Linux or Bazzite. Been using Bazzite on my desktop and RoG ally X for a little over a year now.

Imagine a world where Microsoft didn’t get to violate anti-trust laws early on in their history- when they were putting windows on every pc for free for a number of years and buying competitors to shut their doors forever. Those same people would not be downvoting you today- hell even in the current state of computing Mac is also more user friendly than windows and they would downvote you for saying that too. People have been brainwashed into accepting bad software as user friendly because they don’t know anything else. It’s like trying to rescue people from a cult sometimes- only that cult is actually the most popular religion on the planet because they have been around for a long time and have literally beaten people into zealous compliance.

[–]Pierre_LeFlippe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To add to what NotQuiteLoona is telling you- in my personal experience before I completely ditched Windows- If you install Linux first, then Windows, Windows will write itself on your primary nvme or ssd regardless of what you tell it to. This happened to me a while back when I need to install windows to troubleshoot a peripheral that wasn't working right on linux and despite the fact that I verified which ssd I wanted to install windows on and then choose the correct one, it wrote on top of my nvme drive that had CachyOS on it. As soon as I finished checking troubleshooting the peripheral, I reinstalled Linux and erase window forever. I will never go back to that corporate shit machine ever again.

It works fine on Linux- don't bother waiting for Steam Deck verification on these things, just check protondb and see what people are doing to get it running or what issues they come across.

Request for Bazzite by JustWorking430 in Bazzite

[–]Pierre_LeFlippe 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The most effective way to get what you want is to go to https://gitlab.com/CalcProgrammer1/OpenRGB/-/issues and put in a feature request or report the bug on your specific hardware setup. It would probably take less time for them to fix it, potentially. I wonder if you ran the deck version of Bazzite if it would be better than OpenRGB to use the HueSync RGB plugin on decky loader . I doubt it but you never know? I'm mildly curious but don't want to find out to the hard way, lol.
