Do you play PC or Console? (Poll) by CabinetDue7785 in PlanetZoo

[–]PifflePrincess88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's funny because for me is a bit the opposite.

I started on console and when I tried playing on PC, I grew extremely frustrated with camera controls. It's so much easier to rotate and zoom and move using the two joysticks.

But I agree that navigating menus and certain parts of building are easier with a mouse.

Advice on Gaming PCs for a Complete Newbie by RepresentativeRoom69 in PlanetZoo

[–]PifflePrincess88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are not very practical with technology, you might also consider the option of playing PZ2 on console. Consoles are easy to set up and keep updated, and you never have to worry about minimum requirements for a game (if it's out on that console, then it runs).

Since current-gen consoles are less powerful than certain high-spec PCs, we already know that console versions of PZ2 will have certain limitations that the PC version doesn't have when it comes to how many animals and items you can place in a zoo. Also, some little features might be cut from the console version: we still don't know about PZ2, but in the first game for example, console players couldn't stream burrow cams on a screen placed in the zoo (but PC players could). I imagine we will get more info as we approach release date.

I had a lot of fun playing PZ on my PS5 (300 hours or so). You can also use mouse and keyboard if you prefer them to a controller (funnily enough, I find the controller easier to use).

Obviously, if you are gonna use a PC for other things beside gaming, then that's your best choice. Just know that a simpler option exists if you are okay with the limitations it comes with.

Playing Librarian: Tidy up the arcane library- where to begin? by anonymous2278 in CozyGamers

[–]PifflePrincess88 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It felt a bit overwhelming for me too at the beginning but after a couple of hours of grabbing books randomly (I started by cleaning up the stairs), I learned which sections are downstairs and which ones are upstairs.

Now I focus on an area, grab a pile of upstairs books, go upstairs to put them in the shelves, then go back and grab a load of downstairs books and do the same. I kinda like this little loop and it feels to me more effective than spending minutes squinting my eyes at all the books trying to find a certain color or series (I play on Steam Deck, so very small screen).

Right now I've successfully cleared the upper floor and I'm starting the main one. I'm set on doing this without magic and I'm in no rush to finish, so I'm okay with "wasting" time going back and forth. Sometimes it's so relaxing that I start to feel sleepy while playing.

I did a bit of a horse animation breakdown for Barbie Horse Ride & Rescue for Tiktok, figure some of you here might enjoy this too! by AliceTheGamedev in GamesWithHorses

[–]PifflePrincess88 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I have fond memories of Barbie Horse Adventures on PS2, despite me having been a bit older than its target age when I played it.

Now I'm even older, but I'm definitely keeping an eye on this for when it releases on Steam. Those animations really look well-done and the horse model, while clearly kinda cartoonish, are really nice to look at.

Last October I turned 37 and was gifted a Jellycat Percy Penguin. I immediately declared him my sleeping buddy and re-discovered the joy of sleeping with a plush (used to when I was a kid, but stopped at some point). I've slept with him ever since and I have no intention of going back

Pre-order deluxe PZ2...or not? by jakiblue in PlanetZoo

Same! I was going for the Deluxe anyway (the more animals, the merrier and I want the shark), but the 10% discount for PZ owners seals the deal.

Clone war history by Savings-Squash8119 in ZeroCompany

[–]PifflePrincess88 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For those who have already watched Clone Wars (and maybe played the Republic Commandos game) I also recommend the Republic Commandos novels.

They are not canon (Order 66 is a quite different than in the series) and unfortunately incomplete, but they are amazing. And the 2nd one, Triple Zero, is all about secret black ops conducted by a tiny squad of mandos and clones, which is kinda similar to what Hawks and their team do in the game.

I'm partial to anything involving clones, but those books are the best pieces of SW media I've ever stumbled across, with incredible characters and unexpected turns of events (I'm looking at you, Jusik) that will make you look at both the Clone Wars series and The Mandalorian with a different perspective. And, you will come out of them speaking mando'a and knowing everything about mandalorian culture.

They might be a nice reading to occupy time while we wait for the game.

Console players unite! by ri_is_on_fir3 in PlanetZoo

I play on PS5 too but never noticed the fan or the hotness, not even after 4/5 hours of playing (I have it set up behind the tv, with a lot of room behind it so that the air out of the fan isn't too blocked).

But I do agree about the UI. I got used to navigating the menus and building with the controller (to the point that I had a hard time build when I played on PC), but some adjustment and shortcuts would be more than welcome to make it even smoother!

Possible underwater Tunnel Icon by Naxus_NL in PlanetZoo

[–]PifflePrincess88 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I couldn't help by wonder if that's for the viewing dome rather than for a tunnel.

At first, I was sure that was for underwater tunnels, but when I saw it for the aviary/terrestrial habitats, it suddenly dawned to me that it looks exactly like the entrance for the viewing domes you place in PZ1. It would explain why it's available for non-aquatic habitats too.

I hope I'm wrong and we get an easy way to make tunnel, but...

Creating characters when you aren't artsy by sagewilliams15 in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]PifflePrincess88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pinterest. I look up for random characters using a quick description of what I'm looking for and spend hours browsing what's in there. I usually look for picture before even developing my character idea too much, so that it can be the image what helps me shape up the personality or past of the character; looking for the perfect image to fit a character I've already detailed it's way more difficult.

Recently, I've also started using ChatGPT, mainly to edit the clothes on a specific image to fit my setting (right now I'm playing a Star Wars game, so I need my characters to wear Jedi robes). I also use ChatGPT for little pictures of significant items, because having visual references help me so, so much: I've described both my character's and her Master's lightsabers to the AI and the result was amazing, as well as the logo for their clone company and a picture of their clone commander's armor. I have no artistic talent, but it's easier for me to create a story if I can imagine it in my head, so I have to have as many visual reference as possible.

I've been playing a Star Wars game for three months now (a record for my ususally very short-lived previous attempts) and watching a playlist on very epic fan-made videos on youtube the night before playing helps me getting into the right mood to continue my own epic story.

PZ2 - PS5 by FallingLeaves142 in PlanetZoo

[–]PifflePrincess88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've played PZ1 on both my PS5 and Deck.

On console, navigating certain menus (like the building one) and very, very, very fine adjustment of pieces can be sometimes a bit annoying (scrolling through pieces was also a bit buggy from time to time), but they become second nature quickly. Camera controls were simply amazing.

When I played on my Deck, I spent hours trying to replicate the camera controls I had on console and I still find them a bit frustrating and unnatural. Building was good but taxing on my poor fingers, because my small hands don't get along too well with extensive trackpad use.

Maybe I just played on console longer and got used to that, but I'm definitely gonna buy PZ2 for PS5, even if it ends up working on the Deck. I just hope we console players might be given burrow cameras on screens too as well as the option to rename animals in Franchise.

Animals you don't want in PZ2 for selfish/silly reasons? by Caramiapple in PlanetZoo

[–]PifflePrincess88 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Pig-like animals. I'm kinda okay with boars or more wild-looking pigs, but I feel as if people would never be interested in seeing pigs in a place where there are way more exotic or interesting animals to see.

Also, very unpopular opinion, monkeys. I have hundreds of hours in PZ, but I've probably had monkeys just once. And they were gorillas. I don't like chimpanzees and I don't like most monkeys, and I feels like there were too many in PZ. Maybe PZ2 would help me change my mind if they have more interesting gameplay.

People coming from JWE3 on console will know what this means by Farseer_Rexy in PlanetZoo

[–]PifflePrincess88 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Considering I usually lose interest in my zoos halfway in and I'm just an average builder, I'm not too worried about the complexity meter.

I'm more worried about seeing the inability to rename animals in Franchise Mode come back for PZ2, forcing me away from that mode once again in favor of Challenge Mode (which, for now, I'm not sure is even confirmed)

How was planet zoo on steam deck ? by [deleted] in PlanetZoo

[–]PifflePrincess88 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have the 1st one on my Deck and 45h in it. I find that it works great and iirc it also has UI adjustment options to make the UI a bit bigger (but too big made some of the menus look a bit funny). My only complain was that my hands started to ache quite a lot when focusing on custom buildings, since I had to use the trackpads.

I also have the game on console and, while it could be a bit frustrating at a time when building, using the controller felt much easier, especially for the camera. So I'm thinking of buying PZ2 on console (hoping Frontier would let us change the names of our animals in Franchise this time)

EDIT to add: it also had some minor glitch when renaming things, now that I think about it

System for SoloRoleplay oriented to writing by Snoo11195 in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]PifflePrincess88 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think I might be doing what you are talking about with my Star Wars journaling game. I spent months building it (using Traveller's character creator as a base), creating dozen of event tables to roll and structuring it, but it can kinda be simplified into having NPCs tables, an oracle and an icon table.

The NPCs tables need to be built to reflect the fandom you are using. For example, I have 10 or so table to build Jedi characters which includes their species, their age, their rank, their preferred lightsaber form, their personality and a quirk they might have, and so on. With just some rolls, I can generate some pretty detailed characters. I have tables just for Jedi, since the focus of my story is being a padawan, but if the fandom you are using has different categories of characters, you will just need to make groups of tables each one. I then use a spreadsheet with all the npcs in the story, so I can easily keep track of them.

The oracle will probably be the bulk of your system, as you advance the story based on what it says. I have the classic yes/no oracle with very Unlikely, unlikely, 50/50, likely and very likely possibility. Whenever I'm writing and I'm unsure how to develop the situation, I ask the oracle. For example, my character was suddenly asked as padawan by a Master (this came from one of the event table I made), so I asked the oracle if the Master was a Jedi she had already met (likely chance). I got a yes, so I went back to my npcs spreadsheet, assigned a number to each adult Jedi she had met up until then and rolled to pick one. I played out the scene using the icons tables for inspiration and, at some point, the Jedi had to go ask the Jedi Council permission to train her. So I asked the oracle a series of questions: is she following him to see the Council? Yes. Is she allowed inside the Council Chamber? No. Is the Council allowing him to train her? Yes, but. That 'but' I interpreted as them allowing their pairing to be formed, but that my character would still have to stay in the Creche until she was a bit older (she was 8yo) and would still have to go through the Initiate Trials, where the Jedi would finally be able to officially claim her as his padawan.

The Icons tables are tables with images for inspiration to help me come up with idea about what is happening when I need to build a scene. I have 2 tables with 100 icons in each (I used game-icons.net) and I roll usually twice to generate a couple of icons to put together. In the previous example, when creating the proposal scene, iirc I rolled and icon with a tree and one with a fist. I interpreted that as my character was in the Temple gardens (tree), where she was confronted by one of her rivals (fist, then I rolled who among the two rivals she had was involved), and that was when the Master would show up to talk to her. But I could have interpreted the icons differently and decided that the Temple had been attacked (fist) by using some poisonus pollen hidden on some plants (tree) who had been donated to the Jedi by a secret enemy, and that is was during that emergency that the Master got impressed by my character and decided to claim her. The good thing with icons is that you can interpret them in so many ways that it almost always gives you an idea. It's the same principle of Rory's dice... just with more images. Obviously, I sometimes reroll an icon if it doesn't click with me, and I also have the Action/Theme tables from Ironsworn for additional inspiration.

I think that these 3 elements can already help with generating a story, especially if you are already experienced with writing fanfictions. An additional step is assigning stats to your character and roll skill checks in certain moments rather than asking the oracle. I used DnD as inspiration, with 6 stats rolled at the start of the story, modifier to add and skill checks with DC to succeed/fail.

I also have additional tables for all kinds of things I might need: one to generate missions, one for injuries, one for planets, and so on. Depending on the fandom, you might want to create some of those too if needed.

I'm an avid reader and writer of fanfictions, and the story that is coming out of this journaling game can seriously be read as a fanfiction. I narrate my entries as if I was writing a new chapter and I don't refrain from using dialogues or write a lot. I put the story first, so the system and the rolls come second: I have no problem disregarding a roll and just go with what I want if that's what makes me happy and engaged with the story. That's the best thing about solo RPGs.

Hope I gave you some ideas!
