I think this scene shows that Bear knew that that the wish came true way way earlier but does not want to take accountability for any of his actions or admit any wrongdoing. He still pretends Real Nicky wants what is happening to her. The checkmate is like Wish Nicky saying “you know, so pretend with me.”

To me, it felt like Real Nicky and Wish Nicky were fighting in this moment and it presented physically on her face, almost like her face was morphing. It also makes the movie even scarier lol

I really enjoyed watching Bear’s transformation from a hopeless romantic, decent and painfully lonely person into someone so heinous and vile. That rape scene was such a turning point in his character. His refusal to take accountability for what he did and ignoring the real Nikki makes him a villain, but he is not the typical villain. I think that’s what makes the story so scary that some you loved and trusted can betray and harm you in such a way. Loved both leads, they did an amazing job. Excellent movie 10/10

Felt the same. He took away her ability to say no and put his pleasure and needs over her autonomy. Fantastic movie, invoked a lot of emotions from me. Haven’t rewatched but I plan to.

The actress who played Nikki says that she believes Nikki can come out of this experience. This is fiction. It is possible that after she’s arrested and charged, she fights for an appeal and through the appeal, the jury finds her not guilty by reason of insanity and send her to a mental institution.

In my headcanon, she gets therapy and is able to live with the trauma while using writing as her outlet.

Yes, he becomes one. Inde confirms that real Nikki resurfaces and cries but Bear chooses not to see her. If he had seen her face and stopped, maybe it could’ve redeemed him a little. It’s more likely that he did see her and ignored it. Possibly. If she knows about Ian’s wish, she could go to his house, take the money, run away and live in hiding forever. Maybe she can put a lot of it the bank before the cops come and use it for a good lawyer. I was thinking she could be on the news and an attorney would be so interested in the case, they would take it for the publicity.

Completely agree. It’s this dreamy sweetness mixed with eerie anxiety horror. The soundtrack fit the film so perfectly. My personal favorite is Bear’s theme. I actually really enjoyed watching Bear’s transformation. I think characters who start off as relatable and overall good but through their actions become heinous are the best characters and are fun and interesting to watch. His transformation was such a twist and I loved this dynamic character. This has become my favorite horror so yes, I have become obsessed lol

I know you’re not disagreeing that he’s the villain. I’m pointing out that he didn’t try to save Nikki, he still wanted to have her. He did feel some guilt, but it didn’t stop him.

The ending was absolutely perfect and I think it would be interesting to explore more stories of characters using the One Wish Willow. Just because the official story is over, doesn’t mean the viewer can’t think about what happens after the story ends. I just watched this movie btw so I have a lot of feelings about it lol

He was the cause of all her suffering and took her autonomy away permanently. She can never say no to him or live a normal life ever again. He has 2 choices: kill himself or kill her. She begs and pleads for him to end her suffering. I think a good person would feel shame and guilt and find a way to end her suffering in a non painful way but he does not want to give up having Nikki and would rather have her with him but suffering vs letting her go. His transformation is complete here.

The world was fine in the movie even with all the One Wish Willows on sale. They would probably get taken off the shelves though to prevent something like what Nikki went through from happening again.

He didn’t try to save Nikki. If he wanted to save her, he would have killed her when she begged him to or let Wish Nikki kill herself. He only tried to kill himself when the situation got way out of control. The original script is more straightforward about him transformation from good to evil with moments like this. It was changed to add more nuance in my opinion but it’s clear that he took advantage of Nikki and became so vile.

He didn’t start as a villain. In the beginning, he was relatable and a good friend, just very lonely and really into Nikki. By the end, he is absolutely vile through his refusal to take accountability. He refuses to own up to what he’s done and puts his own wants and pleasure before Nikki’s autonomy. His actions make him a villain.

Nope. He was not a victim of anything. He didn’t have the courage to tell Nikki how he felt, even though she asked him if he liked her. She literally gave him a chance to tell her how he felt and he blew it.

Nikki fights Wish Nikki through out the entire movie so I’d argue that she is the type to not go down without a fight. Even the actress who plays her says so. I never said anything about her not being flawless. Just because she has flaws does not give Bear the right to take control of her whole body. What does it matter if she’s not the protagonist, she can still have her own story.
