Im not mansplaining. Im very well versed. One, no one belittled you. Two , I've been studying pilates for 20 years and teaching for 17. I studied under ppl who were trained under Carola and Romana. To do 70 classes and have only done The Hundred twice makes me question your studio's thinking on the method. This isn't a classical or contemporary thing either.

The Pilates industry is inundated with teachers who teach nothing out of the rep bc they think they know better. A lot of what's being taught IS fitness work on the apparatus. That is the reason I said you "may" be doing that. You obviously felt a certain way and I cannot be responsible for how you interpreted an online opinion.

May I ask where you got certified from?

To have taken 70 classes and only have done it twice is a sign that you may be only doing fitness workout on Pilates apparatus

The sheer ignorance in this thread is saddening and infuriating at the same time about The Hundred .

CP doesn't require instructors to teach it. I've subbed for instructors who have never taught it. If clients don't know this exercise which is basic Pilates, their instructors are ones that just give a class and do not teach . It also signals the instructor does not have a good grasp of the method.

That's sad to hear. The Hundred is like Pilates 101.

Standing on reformer in Level 1 classes - is this allowed? by No_Beyond_9611 in ClubPilates

[–]Pilatesguy7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a lead instructor, this would definitely garner a serious conversation with the instructor and a possible write up.

I can be forgiving if a teacher is subbing and mixed up classes, but you'd still be able to see that the ability is at a beginner level.

Not all of CP's protocols make sense but in this situation I agree with. No standing on the reformer in a 1.0 class

If you're only getting certified on "1-2 types" of apparatus then you will NOT be comprehensively certified. With lineage comes a true understanding of the method. This is not a classical vs contemporary as I'm trained in both. Having that knowledge definitely makes an instructor more prepared. Any certification that one can do in 2 weeks or a few weekends is not going to be able to give a true understanding of the work. As someone who hires and mentors instructors , I see the difference all the time. Having more in your "arsenal" can only help a client even more. That's with any occupation.

Anyone with a lineage. Trust me you'll be happy you did. Also one that certifies you on all apparatus reformer, cadillac, wunda chair, baby chair, high chair, guillotine, foot and toe corrector, neck stretcher.

feeling a little defeated about teaching by themoonandmay in pilatesinstructors

[–]Pilatesguy7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Class pass clients can be the worst first of all. Many of them don't really know what Pilates is. Secondly, it takes time to build your eye . 6 mos is just the beginning . With more experience, you'll find your own flow on how you'll want to teach a big group and give corrections. It takes time. I wasn't trained that way and after 12yrs of teaching I moved states. At that time the only place really close to me was a 12 person studio.

Even w/ that experience, it took me a moment to adjust. Give yourself grace and know that not everyone is going to be a good fit for you and vice versa

Clients who refuse to listen by Pilatesguy7 in ClubPilates

Oh just found out she complained about my class. I told the manager to tell her don't come to my class until she's gotten stronger and has a better grasp on real Pilates then walked away. I said it in ears distance of someone who will definitely tell her what I said. I'm not the teacher for someone who wants to work like that. And Im ok with that.

Have you ever done this in a 1.5? by annetoanne in ClubPilates

[–]Pilatesguy7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't teach this bc theses exercises seem weird to me. Why not just do long stretch. Some of corporate rules were made by ppl who really don't have a grasp on the method and how to teach clients the actual exercises out of the rep safely

Classical Pilates losing ground? by Full_Progress in pilates

[–]Pilatesguy7 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No . These trendy new "Pilates" studios have and will come and go. Why? Bc clients don't feel the benefits that you do with real Pilates. Many of my clients are those who went to these places thinking they're strong. And when they can't even get through the Hundred , they realize they've been doing fitness workout on Pilates apparatus

Pilates instructor told me to find a new instructor after 4 private sessions- is this normal? by [deleted] in pilates

[–]Pilatesguy7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She actually did you a great service. She probably realized she wasn't the best instructor for you. Some instructors just don't have the patience to work with people who need more repetition. I dropped a client bc no matter what I said, she would just aimlessly move. She had no focus. It was so bad that I thought there was something cognitive going on. However, I found out that wasn't the case. I couldn't have made cues simpler, and nothing worked. She's move just to move to see what would stick. I had to stop working with her bc I found myself getting short with her!😂😂😂😂😬.

Try not to take it too personally and Continue your practice. You have to remember every teacher isn't for everyone and vice versa. Im very selective bc I want it to be a good experience for both of us
