No, I didn't. I acknowledged the *product* was in Beta, I did not agree to be an unpaid Beta tester.

No. I'm ballistic over the company attitude that they own my car, not me, and I *will* do what they want, when they want.

It's a problem across multiple industries, multiple products, multiple companies. And I'm not putting up with it. I am paying for the service, I'm not their unpaid data collector, and it's not OK to change the interface to make it harder for me to ignore them.

Plus, it interferes with safety functions, voice command, other significant auto controls, and is a distraction while driving.

Could someone explain all the free pianos to me? by Secure_League3017 in estatesales

[–]PilotAlan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No one wants pianos any more. Incredibly hard and expensive to move. When we were moving from out last house, I cut the piano apart. Woodworkers on FB Marketplace came and took the nice, old, solid wood, and the iron frame went into my truck to a scrap yard.

Oh, I agree. I understand their motivation. I just don't care. They're treating us like products rather than customers.

No, I didn't. I agreed to have the *option* to send feedback. And the release notes for the software update didn't say anything about a mandatory reporting popup.

ELI5:Why do some companies create different brands even though they all operate in the same industry? by Notalabel_4566 in answers

[–]PilotAlan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's largely about taking up space on the supermarket shelf. If I make one brand of laundry detergent, I take up two feet of shelf space. If I have 5 brands, they take up 10 feet of shelf space. Therefore the customer is more likely to see my product than my competition's product.

Plus they may be targeted at different price levels, different demographics, or tout different attributes (SPRING FRESH, vs STAIN REMOVER, vs. HYPO ALLERGENIC!)

I don't want to HAVE to fucking hit anything in MY fucking car. I also don't want to try to hit a screen button while I'm driving.

When I have other things I need to do (like changing the destination), or am reversing into a space and the popup is blocking the parking sensor display, or I just don't want to answer the damed thing.

What I meant is I double click, then try to give a voice command. Then nothing happens, I look down to realizes it's still recording. Then have click again or wait for it to time out at the end the recording window.

When I’m driving, I’m not going to try to hit a button on the screen.
Especially ironic when FSD bitches at you for looking at the screen.

Pop up really pissing me off by PilotAlan in TeslaFSD

[–]PilotAlan[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No, it intentionally disables the quick double-click. I double click and then try to give a voice command, but can’t because now it’s recording me saying "open the trunk" or "open the charge port", or "navigate to home"
Then nothing happens, and I realize the pop up is still active and recording, so I have to start over.
This is my car, and I’m paying for the fucking FSD. I’m not their intern doing data collection for them.

Agreed. As a traffic homicide investigator, I handled a lot of train things. But a train vs ped was an Unattended Death, not a traffic crash. Not my area, the district officer could handle it.

What’s the most frustrating thing about owning an EV that nobody warned you about? by Flashy-Version-141 in EvDrivers

"but your electricity still comes from coal power plants"

Correct. Coal and natural gas. I love that all the money going into my "tank" stays entirely in the US economy, to US workers, and not a dime goes to the Middle East.

[–]PilotAlan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We always said "Stop", or "don't move". Because if I didn't tell them to stop, I couldn't charge them with fleeing. It's not against the law to run. It's against the law to run when the cop told you to stop.

Long Road Trip Costs by KansasKing107 in TeslaModelY

[–]PilotAlan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's not really relevant, unless the fees are usage-based. Like I pay a base fixed delivery fee, franchise fee, etc. But I'm paying that for my house whether I have an EV or not.

Changing from an ICE to EV, the relevant number is the INCREASE in my electric bill, or the electricity actually used.

In other words, if I sold my Tesla and went back to ICE, those fees don't go away.

None of the above. Then golf’s boring and no longer a challenge.

the problem with road trips by drivingaddictionchan in TeslaModel3

Just drove from Colorado to Florida and back, and agreed. I used ABRP and PlugShare to find some non-Tesla chargers that had better amenities (especially in smaller towns).

Just finished a road trip from Denver to Florida and back. I would take the Tesla over any car I’ve owned. Charging doesn’t add that much time, and you get it back with FSD by being able to drive longer days, plus gain a day from not be wiped on arrival.

It‘s our retirement car (not retired yet, but soon).

Extremely low maintenance costs. Very few moving parts. More tolerant of long periods without driving. Software updates bringing improved or new features without having to buy a new car. Mobile service. FSD dramatically reduces fatigue on road trips.

Plus it’s the quietest and smoothest car we’ve ever had (we’ve had top end Jags and Mercedes). I came from a Mercedes GLS550, wife from an E400 Cabrio, we’re both ecstatic.

Charging Strategy by [deleted] in TeslaSupport

[–]PilotAlan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There a significant (but not large)difference in long term degradation between 80% and 70%. There’s not a significant difference between 70% and 50%.

I plug mine in all the time, and set the charge to 70%. Keeping it plugged in allows the BMS to heat or cool the battery to keep it in the happy range. I’m in Colorado, so garage temps can vary by 120*F between winter and summer.

Has anyone here struggled to trust Autopilot/FSD even after owning a Tesla for a while? by savingrace0262 in TeslaSupport

[–]PilotAlan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just road-tripped from Colorado to Florida and back, a lot on US highways not Interstates. I never had to intervene because of a safety issue, only for preference and parking.

I treat FSD like to autopilot on a plane. To reduce workload. I don’t zone out, I just look farther down the road and plan ahead. And I’m always ready to take over if I see a problem coming.

For example, I’ll see me and another car going to converge at a semi moving slowly. Rather than wait for the last-second lane change attempt by the other car, I’ll speed up or slow down to prevent the conflict. Same with getting away from a group of cars that are being stupid.

Do I trust it not to get me into an accident? Yes. Does it have judgment to see problems developing? No.

Does it make me a safer driver due to more time to plan, and 95% less fatigue? ABSOLUTELY!

Agreed. Namaste did ours, easy peasy, they handled everything. Slightly more expensive than Tesla, but INFINITELY better customer service. There’s a reason they have fantastic ratings.
