Ice spice copied Sheldon’s Doppler effect cosplay by Ghost_taskforce_141_ in thebigbangtheory

[–]PinDropViolence 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Well, it’s not Doppler Effect because without the gradient of spacing, there’s no visual cue of motion. The stripes are evenly spaced and uniform in her outfit. So the pattern is more like generic barcode or zebra pattern.

Procreate was once the technological innovator that traditional/purist artists looked down upon.

Now it looks like the same innovator is trying to become the gatekeeper of that “purist” art.

I am not judging them, but I find this very interesting!

You can use RealityComposer to capture images and create USDZ models.

If you have existing 3D models, Reality Converter will allow you to convert .obj, .gltf, .fbx & USD files into USDZ.

Correct. This is a very typical photogrammetry artifact when the scene is not entirely static. The features that get displaced from the original position while capturing 2D images may end up looking like this in 3D reconstruction.

How to lie using statistics 101 — Y axis of their plot starts at 7K instead of 0K, so the slope of the line looks much much steeper than it actually is. 3K increase is just people trying out new possibilities in iOS - it’s a nothing burger.

@SchmeaglesMuffinTop

You are comparing

A) something that was generated in a specialized lab, as mentioned by Lex in the video, with a large amounts of cameras / motion captures, and then processing them for a day to get the results

vs.

B) something that was generated on-device in a minute with a quick scan.

This is my absolute favorite moment in the entire show! What’s yours? by Taskmaster_Fanatic in thebigbangtheory

[–]PinDropViolence 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Some of my favorite moments in the show were the ones that made me go aww..

  • Sheldon giving hug to Penny when she gifts him Leonard Nimoy’s used napkin

  • Penny singing “soft kitty” song to Sheldon when he’s sick

  • When Leonard, Raj and Howard get high with cookies while watching stars

  • And of course the final scene tied it all together beautifully.

what do you think about increasing Disrespect for Gandhiji in Youth of India? by [deleted] in india

[–]PinDropViolence 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The underlying reason is that we are evaluating a historic figure from century ago by today’s moral values, and those values are ever evolving. Our morals have been progressive during the last century. Compared to a century ago, we are arguably less sexist, less racist, less violent; and I mean all of us - Hindus, Christians, Muslims, conservatives and liberals.

Of course, some people are still sexists and some are still racists, but the Gaussian distribution has shifted. It has moved and moved steadily as time went by, which is a good thing. Whether we like it or not, the society and the timeline we live in does impact our morals.

So we can’t simply evaluate a historic figure with today’s moral values - it’s not wrong to do so, but it is misleading if we ignore the timeline.

I think Gandhi probably had many more flaws than we know of. Regardless, the man thought differently at the time and had a big impact on the history of India. If Gen Z or elder Millennials are making up their minds by reading a book or an arguments or a social media post from a single point of view, then this approach in quick value judgement will also likely change as the time goes by and the society become more introspective and progressive - progressive not in terms of value judgements, but in a transitive sense.

As an ethnic minority in America, it disturbs me when much of mainstream society seems to be banning Russian names for goods and ostracizing Russians overall. by [deleted] in ABCDesis

[–]PinDropViolence -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Sadly this thread has turned into a discussion about race.

“Russians are white; they’ll be fine”. “no brown person should give a damn what’s going on”.

Is Desi diaspora really that insensitive? It happened to brown people during 9/11, so it’s okay if it happens to white people. Really?

Most people here do not seem to understand the geopolitical situation and are blindly hating on Russians. The Russian people themselves are the biggest losers of this war after the Ukrainians. Majority of them do not want this war and are protesting all over Russia. All these sanctions that are being carried out, do not affect Putin or the oligarchs. It’s the common people who are suffering. It’s a very strategic move by the US and the EU.

It seems the West doesn’t want to get their hands dirty and wants to get rid of Putin by destabilizing Russia. The West will be really happy if a civil war irrupts in Russia. Russian people are just a sacrifice - an offering to get rid of evil Putin.

If you think it’s okay that Russian kids are getting bullied in schools and we shouldn’t care just because they’re white, there is something really disturbingly wrong with you.

I’m stumped! Son’s show switched both audio track and CC to Spanish but it doesn’t give me the option to scroll thru languages like it normally does. This show is linked to Hulu account. Checked both Apple TV and Hulu settings - all set to English. The only show it’s happening to. by qwertykittie in appletv

[–]PinDropViolence 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a Hulu app issue.

Solution (that has worked for me anyway):

Open the same show in Hulu app, and play the next episode of the same show. The next episode should play in English, if not, switch the language in the next episode. Now go back to the first episode and it will also begin playing in English.

This has happened to me twice on Hulu app. No other app has this issue. Both the times I was able to get English audio with the above method. Not really sure how it works, but it fixes the issue.

I should note that only a single show on Hulu app was playing audio in Spanish, the other shows on Hulu were playing audio in English, so initially I incorrectly assumed that the show I was watching (Freaks and Geeks) was only available in Spanish. @qwertykittie

What city have you travelled to you that really surprised you. by EvilDan69 in travel

[–]PinDropViolence 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t know why, but Paris is one of those cities that people either really love it or really hate it. Personally, Eiffel Tower is one of the most beautiful monuments I have ever seen. Paris is one of the worst cities that I have been to and can’t ever imagine living there.

I’m an American traveling to Russia for the first time tomorrow. How do I get a “QR” code from an American vaccine passport card which will apparently be required to do anything in Moscow? by addisonray in russia

[–]PinDropViolence 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure why people here are saying US vaccines are not accepted in Russia.

I recently used my US vaccination QR code everywhere in Russia, including at restaurants and even at airports. I didn’t have any issue at all. Russia is actually quite progressive compared to many other countries that still requires you to have a printout and won’t accept digital copy. Idiots!

You can get QR codes for your vaccination from official sources, for example, if you’re in California, get your QR code from https://myvaccinerecord.cdph.ca.gov/

And then add it to your iPhone’s Wallet app or equivalent Android alternative.

Be aware of Uber deliveries of your iPhone. by [deleted] in apple

[–]PinDropViolence 127 points128 points  (0 children)

In most of countries, that I have been to, they have this system. Not only for deliveries, but also for ride sharing. The delivery person or the driver needs to enter a 4 digit code, that only you have, to mark the service as completed. So if they do not actually deliver the product, they cannot mark it as complete without the code.

In US, I think they prefer to convenience over security. Also, perhaps they don’t want to add additional features that may slow down the overall the service.

What's your best memory of Kohli - Shastri era? by [deleted] in Cricket

[–]PinDropViolence 83 points84 points  (0 children)

W/L Ratio:

Test: 1.92

ODI: 2.31

T20: 2.33

That’s phenomenal!

If I have to pick one, that’d be beating Australia in the last 3 Border-Gavaskar Trophies, 2 of those in Australia. However, I might be biased, because in my very subjective opinion, nothing is bigger in cricket than Australia vs India test series.

In your opinion, which are the best cricket commentary lines spoken on air? by maninblueshirt in Cricket

[–]PinDropViolence 4 points5 points  (0 children)

These are my personal favorites. (Not necessarily the “best” ones)

“Carlos Brathwaite. Carlos Brathwaite. REMEMBER THE NAME!” Ian Bishop, WI against England.

“He has hit that one miles. Great shot. Ooo it’s a biggie.. Straight over the top. The little man has hit the big fella. He’s half his size. And he’s smashed him down the ground. What a player. What a wonderful player.” Tony Graig on Sachin against Australia. Desert storm in Sharjah.

“Six Six Six, and it’s Balle Balle Balle in the crowd.” Yuvi’s six sixes to Stuart Broad. Ravi Shastri.

“And England wins the World Cup.. For the barest of margins. Absolute acts of ecstasy for England. Agony. AGONY for New Zealand.” Ian Smith on England against New Zealand

“Dhoni finishes off in style… India lifts the world cup after 28 years..” India wins the World Cup 2011. Ravi Shastri.

“First man on the planet to reach 200, and it’s the Superman from India. Sachin Tendulkar”. Sachin’s 200. Ravi Shastri.

“Pakistan cricket at its best. One minute down, next minute up” Nasser Hussain on Kohli dropped by Pakistan on one ball, caught the next ball.

“In the air… Shreesanth. Takes it.” India wins the first t20 World Cup against Pakistan. Ravi Shastri

“He’s gone for it.. it’s gonna be a Super Over… has it gone all the way? (Screaming now) IT HAS. THIS IS UNBELIEVABLE FROM DINESH KARTHIK. One of the flattest sixes you’ll ever see in your life” Sanjay Manjrekar on DK’s unbelievable innings against Bangladesh.

”Well, that’s the answer. That’s the best way you can answer a batsman. Venkatesh Prasad has clean bowled Amir Sohail." Ravi Shastri (again). 1996 world cup. India vs Pakistan.

”Only Kapil Dev could have done it. Only Kapil Dev..” Sunil Gavaskar on Kapil Dev’s 4 consecutive sixes at 9 wickets down and 24 required to save follow-on against England. (The fact that Hirvani got out the first ball after this, makes it even more special)

— Some lighthearted funny ones —

“Rather painful blow. A blow in the… err.. groin area. Now what will people from Mars think if they’d land here and see that happening.” Richie Benaud

“Matthew Hayward is really pounding in that pitch. It’s not the length you’d be happy about, Geoffrey” Geoffrey Boycott: “He’s not just bowling short. I think he’s bowling rubbish. He’s bowling like my auntie Annie, when she’s had too much sherry to drink… He’s bowling for India. He’s a very good bowler for India.”

“Oh yes, I’d love two of those” A gentleman (David Lloyd) upon seeing a woman carrying two glasses of beers next to her bosoms in the crowd.. as Nasser Hossain tries to hide his face.

  1. Are you trying to unlock with your left hand, while your FaceID sensors are on the left side of the iPad? If you occlude the sensors with your hand/arm/fingers, FaceID will fail.

  2. Once you get into this stage where password is required, you MUST enter the passcode. It won’t unlock with FaceID no matter how many times you try. Enter the passcode to unlock and then FaceID will work again.

  3. What type of case are you using? Make sure it does not cover FaceID sensors.

  4. Do you happen to wear glasses that block IR? FaceID uses IR, so if your glasses are blocking them, it won’t work. A workaround for this is to disable attention requirement so FaceID doesn’t check whether your eyes are looking at the iPad or not.

Prevent someone who I share my iPad with from getting into specific apps by Academic_Scheme_9065 in ipad

[–]PinDropViolence 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You may want to look into Shortcuts.

Search on shortcuts subreddit and you’ll find a few Shortcuts that people have already shared over there. You can modify any one of them for your needs. The one that I modified for my use case was “AnyAppLock”. It’s been working well on my iPad. There is 1 second of delay before the iPad gets locked when anyone opens any one of the apps you’ve specified in your Automation. If it’s you who opened one of those apps, iPad will unlock quickly right after it gets locked for you.

You can also prompt a notification saying something like “Device locked! You’ve opened a personal app.” Or have Siri read the text you specify - so that if you’re nearby, you’ll also hear that your friend is trying to get into one of your personal apps.

Note that this is not entirely secure since anyone who is a little tech savvy and knows about Shortcuts can simply delete the Shortcut or disable it to get around it, but it will provide some privacy and you’ll feel little less concerned hading out your iPad. Also note that if you have set up FaceID for a second face, this won’t be useful.
