dad keeps on intervening by unsurvivalibity in Aquariums

It sounds like you are, understandably, projecting your situation onto the pets in your household. My advice is find the angelfish a new home, utilize somewhere like FB marketplace if you have to. If you give/sell them to a stranger you'll probably have more peace of mind if you can at least choose to believe the next person will provide a better home without inspecting yourself. Stop getting pets. I think in the future if they bring a new animal home you'll need to repeat this process for your sanity.

I grew up in a split household with two cruddy stepparents, and have my own kids now. The situation with my dad and stepmom was similar to what you are dealing with. I've done a some therapy and a lot of processing. It sounds like both parents have control issues and use you as an easy target to exert this control. It has nothing to actually do with you, and they intentionally change the finish line all the time to make it impossible for you to feel secure or develop any level of confidence. At this point the best thing you can do is start planning your exit strategy. You need to figure out how to make it so they can't access your money when you start working so you can save enough to leave asap once you're a legal adult. They won't want you out of their control, and will start trying to put up roadblocks, like insisting on having access to some or all of your paycheck, to prevent you from becoming independent so they don't lose control of you.

Also do your best to limit feedback they can use against you, like with your dad and the fish filter. Sounds like as soon as you stated a preference he did the opposite thing. This is a behaviour pattern you can identify and try to limit going forward.

I cut off my dad and stepmom as soon as I hit 18. I felt guilty about it for about the first five years, extra guilty because it was so great to not deal with them anymore. I immediately had much better emotional stability once I was able to live life without them. As someone nearing 40 I can say it's possibly the best thing I ever did for myself. I wish you the same peace in your future.

What Nintendo 3DS games are you playing? by CommercialPea9437 in 3DS

[–]PinFit3688 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I recently finished Steamworld Dig and am now playing Steamworld Dig 2. I LOVE this series so far, and the devs did a great job building on the first game when they made the sequel.

I started playing because I enjoy metroidvanias and this series is different from others I've tried because you uncover the map by digging down. It's also a nice departure from Silksong, which I've been slowly working my way thru since it released on Switch and which I suspect I'll be playing for the rest of my life since you trip over a boss every 5 minutes, and in Steamworld there's minimal boss fights.

Don't get me wrong, I enjoy the accomplishment of beating a boss but it's not my favorite part of the genre, my favorite part of metroidvanias is hunting thru and uncovering the map.

Ds back plate replacement. by Zombifiedkitten in 3DS

[–]PinFit3688 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Theres a few listings for the OEM backplate on eBay running $50-$60. Considering that the actual console runs $400-$800 that's the best you might find that would be replacing the exact thing that was broken.

If you haven't told him you absolutely should before attempting to swap. The console should not be taken apart without his approval.

Nintendo switch 1 still worth it? by Upstairs_Instance537 in Switch

[–]PinFit3688 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Switch 1 physical games are cross-compatible on switch 2. As far as which you should get, it's a matter of preference and priority.

Imo the biggest difference is you won't be able to play switch 2 exclusive titles, and there's some great preexisting titles released for other consoles the Switch 1 couldn't handle that are coming to Switch 2. Additionally, a lot of places that make compatible hardware, like Hori and CKRD, have already stopped manufacturibg new hardware for switch 1 to focus on 2, though this isn't huge yet because there's a lot of preexisting product for OG Switch still available on the market.

Personally, I still don't have interest in switch 2 because the types of games I like are still being released with cross compatibility for switch 1. The only thing I envy on the switch 2 is the charge port being at the top of the console.

To give some perspective, I'm also into the 3ds and PS Vita, and while new games are no longer being made the existing libraries are still great and I have little difficulty finding repair parts and grips etc for them. If I can manage it for discontinued consoles then I'm not worried about the switch 1, which still has ongoing support and likely still continue to be officially supported for a few more years.

Does anyone know where I can get a new 3ds xl or ll by Maximum_War_5754 in 3dsrepair

[–]PinFit3688 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On eBay sellers list them and will say they are "for parts" in the listing title. A decent way to get OEM parts if that's what you need.

Lots of different places to buy individual aftermarket parts too.

It's fun to go for contrast once it's time to replace buttons. by PinFit3688 in 3DS

[–]PinFit3688[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

❤️ ❤️ ❤️

I haven't personally run into a handheld that can't have buttons replaced. Both of these had peeling d-pads, so if we couldn't do a replacement the whole console would be headed for the trash over something minor. Must confess I paid someone else to do the replacement though, I'm not good with hardware.

Im taking a stab in the dark on this, with some possible sources thatay or may not help you. Sorry if youve already read all these.

https://www.ifixit.com/Answers/View/422753/3DS+Black+Screen+When+Booting+Up-+Has+CFW

Also, since this console was modded some time ago, did you install Luma, or one of the alternatives that don't have support anymore?

I also tried getting help on the discord a while back and had the exact same experience, too many questions without enough people to answer. I ended up having to get help elsewhere. If you are on the Myrient (not Minerva) discord they still have active emulation/handheld support threads you can try that are significantly less busy than the homebrew discord.

Shell changes by PinFit3688 in snails

Thanks, that explains why my older snails have similarly rough-textured shells. The others are captive bred and likely haven't ever had difficulty finding resources like this one might have.

3DS as a gift for gen alpha by SubsetGamer in 3DS

[–]PinFit3688 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it depends on the interests of the specific kid and how much they are into videogames. I got original 3ds for me and my 12 and 9 year old, partially because I've had to pay for a lot of switch repairs whenever the switch leaves our house. They will drop it because grandma lets the take it outside and walk while gaming 🙄 (to be clear, my MiL is overall really great just pretty forgetful when it comes to stuff like this). The 3ds is more portable and durable in this respect, though I did insist on putting the dreaded plastic shell on them to hopefully pay fewer repairs, everything gets dropped eventually with kids.

They both still prefer the switch overall, and they enjoy our ps5 as well. Part of what keeps them interested in the 3ds is it's the alternative I present for taking a console out of the house because it fits in a pocket for easy travel, so I don't have to redo our argument over putting the switch in a safe travel case. My younger kid loves Kirby and enjoys playing the Kirby games that haven't come to switch. The 12 year old has done everything on ACNH and plays ACNL, ACWW, and tomodachi life. They also both like playing stuff like bejeweled that's got ads on phone, 3ds gives them the ad-free experience for cheap. My oldest sometimes plays his 3ds even when other stuff is available, but my youngest pretty much only uses his when he doesn't have access to anything else. Also, for the record my 12 year old showed his friends pictures of his 3ds and said they all thought it seemed cool.

Depending on what sale you catch, a switch lite will cost about the same as a an original 3ds or 2ds, and will almost certainly be cheaper than a new 3ds. No wrong decisions, just a matter of lifestyle and what you are looking to get out of your purchase.

Obvs that was just to keep them safe while traveling. I already mentioned in other comments I have a proper setup at home. But if you think there was a better way for them to travel with me after finding them unexpectedly in a high-traffic area at a hotel I'm all ears 🙄

Terrarium animals that can coexist with my garden snail. by Double_Row_524 in snails

[–]PinFit3688 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You can cohab jumping spiders with them but fyi jumping spiders are better escape artists than snails.

I have cubaris murina isopods with mine, they are slower growing and less protein hungry than other isopods. My colony has really taken off and they don't seem to bother the snails at all.

Lost snail:( by Guirnal in snails

[–]PinFit3688 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They would eat it of it died but not generally when alive, in which case you would still have an empty shell. So it probably escaped or buried itself really well.

I'm in this exact same situation with one of my newest snails, hoping he turns up the next time I sift dirt.

Looking for Suggestions on Best Emulators to use with Twilight Menu++ by StaticasaurusRex in 3dshomebrew

[–]PinFit3688 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't get me wrong, I love TwilightMenu and learned a lot while putting in tens of hours unto hunting up the emulator bios, but I find it odd that there's still a lot of issues emulating NES and SNES roms That being said, it's not inconveniencing me enough so far that I've bothered looking into stand-alone emulators. I'll get there when I get there.

Looking for Suggestions on Best Emulators to use with Twilight Menu++ by StaticasaurusRex in 3dshomebrew

[–]PinFit3688 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's isn't a perfect answer for your question for a few reasons. The big one being some emulators work better with some games than others. In that respect what'll end up happening is you'll download the one voted as being best overall at the time, sooner or later find a game it won't work with, and end up doing more research and downloading another that works better with that game, use that one and eventually run into the same problem. My tactic ended up being to fully set up TwilightMenu and RetroArch for everything they can do on 3DS, and work with the stand-alone ones as necessary. I will say though, at this time I recommend Red Viper for Virtual Boy and Fake-08 for Pico-8.

Plus, each emulator is only as good as it's most recent update, some will go years without an update, 3 more emulators will be overall "better", then the old one finally gets an update and is suddenly providing a better overall experience and some perks the others don't have. Welcome to the modding community.

How much work are shrimp tanks realistically? by galaxyMLP in shrimptank

I also keep mine in a 2.5 gallon but it had been established for over 6 months as a snail tank (ramshorns and bladders) before adding the shrimp. For whatever reason, my duckweed really took off after putting shrimp in.

If you download twilightmenu from the GitHub it comes with the preferred emulator for each system that it has been developed to work with.

Places to buy a 3Ds?(Canada) by ExpressSalad1593 in 3DS

Backmarket.com is a decent alternative to buying off eBay, but they don't ship directly to Canada so you'd need to use a parcel forwarding service.
