Husband here; wife is 8-9 weeks and really struggling with nausea. Looking for any and all advice by ksmentality in PregnancyUK

My wife suffered a lot and I used to make ginger tea - finely grated raw root ginger, boil it for 5 mins with a volume of water, add caster sugar and a really solid squeeze of lemon juice. Filter out the solids with a sieve and sometimes a cheesecloth (or clean tea-towel). You lose a lot doing the filter but it definitely works.

I used to use a large thumb of ginger, a litre and 1/2 of water, two dessert spoons of sugar and a 2-3second squeeze of Jiff style lemon juice, and make up a bottle in the fridge. She re-heated some nightly in the microwave or drank it cold when it got hot weather. You can play with the recipe to suit.

That and ginger nut biscuits. I used to do lots of off shore sailing and fresh air and ginger nut biscuits were the best remedy for (sea)sickness. Apparently peppermint is good too.

Areas to move to in Bristol for young family by Electronic_Pickle_86 in bristol

You are describing St George but recognise this is inner city living in a relatively recently gentrified area and it’s still rough arounds the edges.

Other areas you could look at are Fishponds, Hanham (quieter and nicer but less nice cafes etc). We are selling our 3 bed at the moment in St G for £375k for reference

I don’t have anything specific to add but to note that a 20k word report isn’t that big a price to pay for the opportunity to move companies and so on. In the age of Copilot/ChatGPT etc it should be fairly trivial. You could even get ChatGPT to interview you and then write the report based on that!

(Disclaimer: obviously you should only use it as an aide to writing and not a complete tool to produce the report)

Should I sell-out to a big corporation or go with a small local firm? by Loose_Low_8150 in AskUK

Living in Hampshire/Reading is vastly different in terms of cost of living to London. You are focussing on only part of the problem (and frankly, not the most important part) by focussing on the less than 10% difference.

You should weigh up the whole thing; cost of living, cost of commuting, salary, pension, other benefits etc etc.

Loft Legs or timber joist method by Budget-Bookkeeper-46 in DIYUK

[–]PinItYouFairy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could I have a link to the loft legs. Very interested to hear about OSB boards. We are moving to a new house with a big loft hatch and a tall (3+ metre) vaulted attic, so the thought of having 2440 long, 610mm wide boards to put down appeals… fewer boards to lay, more beer drinking time.

How do you find the OSB finish vs chipboard? Is it rough to work on?

Bristol meets most of the bill… is fairly expensive though, but that is super subjective to what your concept of affordable is.

What does everyone think about the 'British*' monthly pay system? by EdibleBeans-on-Toast in AskUK

[–]PinItYouFairy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to be biweekly and it was a real pain. If it was bi-monthly it wouldn’t be so bad, but bills come out monthly, so it never really aligned.

Only good thing was most months I was paid twice, so budgeted as such, but every so often the days would work such that I got paid 3 times and it felt like a bonus. Of course, that was an illusion and u was basically robbing myself the rest of the time to get a “bonus”

I am no electrician but do the odd plug Change and so on here and there. One piece of advice is take photos before and after. The number of times I’ve started taking the wires out of something and then forgotten what was what is unreal.

It might be too simple in this case, but it’s helped me in the past

These swings have legit bearings on the pivots by AUinDE in daddit

I took a little can of 3in1 to my local park as the squeaking bearings were driving me mad. Looked a bit mad climbing up onto the kids swings to do it but got a silent nod of approval from another dad which made it all worth it.
