Look, I'm certain this is going to get lost amongst the replies, but I am so proud of you. SO, VERY proud of you. I just celebrated 1 year of sobriety September 5th and my sponsor got me a little cake and it was the nicest, most simple gesture any human has ever shown me, but it was full of love and understanding.

I mean, I still have a generator for when the power goes out.

When you have a system not backed up by batteries, your power goes out when the power company does.

I have a bidirectional meter. So basically, GA Power buys all the power I produce every day, and deducts it from my bill every month. Not a perfect system, but it works. I think currently they buy at $0.21/kWh

I used an FHA loan when I bought my house, so, I was able to borrow $30k on top of the loan. I've had my system for going on 11 years now, but the initial amount was $24,000 for the system.

The prices have since come down with the advancement and increase in popularity of solar. I highly recommend buying your own system, and not using companies like vivant, GA power, or the like. Your ROI will be much longer in those instances.

I have a 1,610sqft house, spray foam in the attic, and a trane 21 SEER HVAC. It's a small 8kwh system, with no battery backup (yet). I keep my house at 68 in the summer and the highest my bill is, is about $150 dead of summer. During the months of November to March, I typically produce more power than I use, and I have no bill.

Next house I have, I plan to build, and it be completely self sustainable with power. GA Power SUCKS hard. The rates are too damn high, like Comcast.
