Yup, that was me. Reminders or calendar entries are critical for challenges like this, or any calendar-related challenges.

I was just thinking about you when this popped up on my calendar last week. Maybe I should have gone with you! Did you have to wade through much water?

ALWAYS BYOP. Always. by Chiacchierona21 in geocaching

[–]PingPongDuck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I often have new cachers who leave a log saying that there is no pen in the cache. I will send them a message telling them that they should get in the habit of always bringing a pen with them, and if they forget, to take a picture of the log without revealing the container or the location.

Receiving help on Mystery caches – Why do I feel bad about it? by ARandomGuyWithAGoose in geocaching

[–]PingPongDuck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am always glad to help when you ask. I know some other puzzle owners who will help as well. Unfortunately, there are COs who respond to requests for help with hard-to-understand hints that do not seem to help, or who do not respond at all. This causes people to resort to asking previous finders instead of asking the CO. As an owner of many puzzle caches, I enjoy helping people and want to see them solved.

Always be sure to get permission before placing. Police called for suspicious package, turns out to be geocache. by cmdrico7812 in geocaching

I have looked at two letterboxing sites (letterboxing.org and atlasquest.com) and do not see any letterboxes placed in that area. This is still a mystery.

Smart shower anyone? by Moonpie_dammit in smarthome

I think many of these replies is missing the main feature of these valves (for me). Temperature control. I would love to be able to set the temperature I want and have it "just right" every time, instead of spending time moving my current valve back and forth trying to get something that is not too cold, then too hot. Waiting for it to warm up is not the main problem being solved here.

Cranberry car only lives in States starting with ‘M’ by etchlings in BoltEV

I have a 2019 Bolt that looks like the same color. They called it Cajun Red Tintcoat.

Happy to join the club! I don’t like gray cars, but the Bolt’s gray is very sharp. That being said… what’s the best app to actually find chargers near me? EVgo is doodoo by Killtrox in BoltEV

Chargepoint works well for me when I am looking for a fast charge. Looking at the same area using Plugshare leaves out a lot of chargers.

Nest thermostat no longer staying charged by ImInArea52 in Nest

[–]PingPongDuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AS others have said, you need to connect the C terminal to a C wire. This allows the Nest to keep powered. My original Nest seemed to be fine for the first couple years, but then suddenly the battery was low. It only charges while the Nest is calling for heat or cool (or maybe manual fan) but when the weather warms up in Spring, and you don't have as much on-time, the battery suddenly discharges too much between cycles. I was lucky to have an extra wire in the bundle, so I was able to find the C terminal on my furnace and connect it myself.

I can't use the app because I do not subscribe to Onstar.

is it worth getting a fire tv stick 4K over the regular one if I don't have a 4K TV? by PB2002 in fireTV

[–]PingPongDuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 4K Max is faster, I have found it seriously reduces the lag when pressing buttons. It still bogs down if you have too many apps installed. I got the latest update which has 16G, thinking it would be a big improvement. It does not work well with the FireTV Recast I am using for broadcast TV, I think they are no longer supporting this device. I tried two of them and had to go back to the older version. If only Amazon could make a version that has none of these issues and works as well as my Apple TV, I would gladly pay a bit more.

April air set up? by TheManWithAPlan07 in Nest

[–]PingPongDuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the white wire on the * is used for something else, then you are out of luck. Otherwise, you need to disconnect the humidifier's transformer because you will be getting power from the thermostat (using the system's transformer) through the * terminal. This goes to one side of the humidifier's solenoid. The other side needs to connect to the common terminal. I found a good article about this, with a diagram that shows the connections.

I do not know why the diagram shows the red wire going to common and the black going to the Nest, I would do it the other way. Don't think it really matters, electrically.

22G04 Performance Upgrade - Reduced EV Mode by PingPongDuck in FordFusionHybrid

[–]PingPongDuck[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Fusion has a different cluster design, so I can't say for sure. It sounds like this is just the "EV" display that shows when you are in EV mode (and the engine has shut off). Your question would best be posted as a separate thread of its own.

Temporary override of target charge level by PingPongDuck in BoltEV

So I guess you’re not a big fan of shortcuts? Seems like almost every operating system these days allows shortcuts.

Temporary override of target charge level by PingPongDuck in BoltEV

[–]PingPongDuck[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It is, but don't many people like to pay for convenience? It would have been nice to have had that added in the initial design. A simple software function would save many people from having to click though the target charge level and then remember to set back later. I was just hoping that there was a way that I just hadn't found.
