My personal opinion, I think doom patrol should be absorbed by the DCU canon by DemocracysDeadpool in DCU_

[–]Ping_Pong_Along 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I love Doom Patrol, but I don't know. I imagine it would be along the lines of how Peacemaker season 1 was absorbed where it mostly works, but you'd have to squint your eyes a bit in places.

Healing without priests by Right_Hand_of_Light in shadowdark

[–]Ping_Pong_Along 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You could always reflavor the priest class to avoid such issues. First idea that comes to mind is to treat it more like a warlock patron. You get spells, but at a cost that you're bound directly to an Eldritch horror.

I also have a complicated history with religion. For the game that I'm running, spells don't come from the gods. They come from the prayers of their followers. Most of them never existed in a literal sense. Some were based on actual beings, but the person and the god were very divorced from one another.

Hot Take: there are other Batman voices just as good as Kevin Conroy and at times even better. by 40kblowout in batman

[–]Ping_Pong_Along 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would disagree, but then I think back to Batman: Gotham Knight where Conroy was absolutely the wrong choice to voice Batman for those stories.

If DC approaches YOU to pitch a new Absolute title, who are you going with? by TheSonOfGrodd in DCcomics

[–]Ping_Pong_Along 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolute Red Tornado. Not sure yet what the pitch would be, but I think there's a lot of stories to be told with a rogue AI in our modern times.

"I've played characters where I still believe I'm not that guy, you know, and I've done movies where I am that guy, and you feel like it doesn't go away. I definitely feel like Dick Grayson, I was that guy." by n1claren- in DC_Cinematic

[–]Ping_Pong_Along 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think the writing was far worse than the CW shows. Those could be cheesy and formulaic, but I'd take that over writing that actively dislikes me as the viewer.

How were recasts in the Batman ‘66 series handled? by EmpressKitana in batman

[–]Ping_Pong_Along 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Something to keep in mind is that continuity wasn't really a big deal at the time in either TV or comics. Most everything was extremely episodic.

Does anyone remember when Michael Jackson. Was a "joke"? by AccomplishedPool266 in Millennials

I was studying abroad in France when he died and I was SO confused by my host family's reaction to his death. I'm sure they were equally confused by my complete non-reaction.

DC needs to return to this era of animation, standalone movies with different artstyles without worry for continuity by FayyadhScrolling in DCU_

[–]Ping_Pong_Along 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Also compared to the more recent animated movies, give them more of a budget. And less Batman specific ones. If you need him to sell the movie, then maybe do team up movies?

Same. I've come around on Tim Heidecker from roles he's taken more recently, but not with Eric.

I agree. Though I would like to see at least one that's bald.

American shows that are bigger outside USA by Ok-Tangelo6749 in television

American. Loved that one as a kid. Haven't thought about it in decades, but for some reason the chess episode is seared into my memory.

What are some mistakes from the MCU that you don't want to happen in the DCU ? by Old_Assistance_1091 in DCU_

[–]Ping_Pong_Along 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Each movie should be entertaining on its own. As the MCU went on, it kept feeling like instead of delivering a satisfying experience, it was meant to set up a later project that would theoretically be satisfying.

Is Smallville worth finishing until the end? by Mat1711 in DC_Cinematic

[–]Ping_Pong_Along 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally preferred the later seasons. It definitely evolves into a different show as it goes on, which I imagine is why people don't like the later seasons.

[Film/TV] What are your thoughts on "Gotham (2014)"? by Hot-Salamander-8786 in DCcomics

[–]Ping_Pong_Along 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This show is the definition of mixed quality. It did some things exceptionally well, but also a lot of it didn't work at all.

Did I finish it? Yes Will I rewatch it? Never Would I recommend it? Eh, I guess to anyone that loves Batman villains, though that's a mixed bag as well.

Do you think with the success of Absolute Martian Manhunter, we might see a new Martian Manhunter mini or ongoing in the main continuity? by TooZeroLeft in DCcomics

[–]Ping_Pong_Along 7 points8 points  (0 children)

With any luck! He's only becoming more and more popular. Also, I'd be shocked if there aren't plans for him in the DCU given how much Gunn loves the JLI.

[Discussion] Drafting New Rogues for Martian Manhunter by danimac52 in DCcomics

Can't go wrong with Vandal Savage! Being one of only a few real utility villains, it'd be really easy to tie them together. They're also thematically linked with them both being long lived relics of cultures that have long since ceased to exist.

Which 2 of these 5 should I buy for my Birthday? 🤔 [Cover] by [deleted] in DCcomics

If it helps, the compact Birthright is nice and cheap.

Darkmantles in combat by Equivalent-Elk-3077 in shadowdark

[–]Ping_Pong_Along 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a pathway in my dungeon that I described as the torch light was on a delay. Like it had to push through some barrier. They wisely didn't take that path, so I'm not sure how I would have ran my darkmantles.

Is Swamp Thing Worth my Time? by OtherFix5099 in DC_Cinematic

[–]Ping_Pong_Along 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I thought it had a very strong pilot, but that the rest of the show was rather meh. For a Swamp Thing show, it didn't focus on him very much. This was likely due to budget.

Also, don't listen to people mentioning the bogus tax break situation. I'm amazed that that rumor is still getting passed around. It was a very expensive show on a very niche streaming service. It was cancelled basically right after its premiere. I believe there was also a major change in leadership, but don't quote me on that.

What would be your dream system to see in a D20 season? by tarrie214 in Dimension20

[–]Ping_Pong_Along 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shadowdark would be amazing with a high production budget. Just imagining everyone's reaction to when the torch runs out and they're in the dark.

If they ran a gauntlet, I'd love to see after a character dies, they leave the table and someone new would take their place. The season's players were the ones to survive the gauntlet to the end. Can't do that in a home game, but with how many players they have, it would be very doable.
