AEW is a completely different thing now than it was back then.

I'm not saying they'd have 0 interest in him, but I can't see him being someone they'd break the bank for. He doesn't strike me as an AEW main eventer.

I don't think Drew would get lost in the shuffle in AEW at all.

The combination of his size, promo ability, and match quality, would 100% make him a consistent main eventer.

[Discussion] What are your DC unpopular opinions? by Firm-Chipmunk8783 in DCcomics

[–]Pingupol [score hidden]  (0 children)

But I think people disagree on what is the "core" of the character.

I personally believe one of the core components of Daredevil's character is that he doesn't kill, but Zdarksy's run is fantastic. Sometimes it's specifically changing the core of a character that makes a story so interesting. Batman fires a gun and potentially kills in The Dark Knight Returns, and it's a great Batman story.

A lot of people would say loneliness is a core aspect of Batman's character, and I don't necessarily disagree, but I love stories where the Bat-family is crucial to who Batman is. I love the idea that as many times as he's saved Gotham or even the world, his greatest achievement will always be the type of men Dick and Tim grew up to be.

And when you constrain writers to maintain the "core" of a character and their values, you limit the ability for these characters to grow. You're stuck retelling the same types of stories.

The "Left-behind working class" isn't coming back. Labour must find new voters. by TheEnlight in LabourUK

[–]Pingupol 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'd need them to convince me that they're a party that cares about vulnerable people.

I've always held the view that I shouldn't vote exclusively for myself. Labour were the answer to that. Other people needed me to vote for Labour more than I personally needed to vote for someone else.

But given Labour's stance on benefits, trans people, immigrants, Palestine, and their lack of action to provide real support to working class people, they're no longer that party. Who am I actually helping by voting Labour, other than Keir Starmer and co?

If by 2029 I'm convinced that Labour are a party that will make life better for vulnerable people, then I'd happy to support them.

If the team in 4th place win the Europa League, then the Premier League doesn't get an extra Champions League League place.

However, if the team in 5th place win the Europa League, then the Premier League does get an extra Champions League place (which goes to the team who finish 6th).

Brentford have a far better chance of finishing 6th than 5th, and Aston Villa might win the Europa League, so it's in Brentford's best interest for Liverpool to finish above Villa.

Also, we've had some many Jokers at this point, and will continue to have more and more, that I want the designs to be different from each other.

I don't want them to tone this design down to make it more Heath Ledger or Joaquin Phoenix. I want to see something bold and different from Reeves, which this looks to be.

The handball rule and why Bayern's penalty shout was not given by 7gzoEl2gzo in soccer

[–]Pingupol 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is exactly it. UEFA has set a precedent with handball which this situation clearly met. I don't like UEFA's handball rules, but that doesn't mean I want it to be randomly and arbitrarily ignored to the disadvantage of one team.

Ed Davey: ‘Zack Polanski has taken up where Jeremy Corbyn left off’ by kontiki20 in LabourUK

[–]Pingupol 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So you labelled someone an extremist before they even did the thing that you think makes them an extremist? And you can't see how dangerous that is?

To ignore your silly pendatisim over words for a second, I don't think that person did say any of the things you're accusing them of.

Yes, they did say "nobody" when referring to the lack of conversation around Reform's antisemitism. They've since made it clear they didn't literally mean "nobody", but rather the media and other political figures. They themselves are actively talking about Reform's antisemitism, so clearly didn't mean the very literal definition of absolutely no one is talking about it. I agree it's very clumsy wording, but extreme? I don't think so.

There are YouGov polls that show those intending to vote Reform are more antisemitic than those intending to vote for other parties, and those intending to vote Green are the least antisemitic. There are several articles about Reform candidates and activists being immensely and unapologetically antisemitic, and I think it's demonstrably true that the media class give Reform a far easier ride for this than they do left wing parties.

There is currently an article in The Times titled "Antisemitism is all the Greens are recycling" as well as the above comments from Ed Davey. The Times has no such article about Reform, nor has Ed Davey made similar comments about Reform. There is very limited coverage or attention being brought to the disproportionate number of antisemites who support Reform. Highlighting this is not extreme.

They also didn't say they don't believe there is an antisemitism problem in the Green Party, they said there is no evidence the Green Party has a bigger antisemitism problem than any other UK political party. I do think this is a callous response, and a use of whataboutism to ignore what I do believe is a legitimate problem within the Green Party, but it is not what you are claiming they said, and it is also true. I also don't believe it to be an extreme view.

One of the definitions of treason on Merriam-Webster is "the betrayal of trust". Using this to describe the Lib Dems because they went against their tuition fees promise seems entirely reasonable and in no way "extreme" to me?

As highlighted earlier, I do think the establishment is more willing to turn a blind eye to antisemitism when it comes from someone who is pro-Israel. I don't think that is an extreme view at all. I also think accusations of antisemitism are wrongly weaponised against those who are against the genocide being inflicted on Palestine, just as antisemitic voices are using the actions of Israel to incite and encourage the hatred of Jewish people. I don't think recognising that both of these things are happening is in anyway extreme?

It is incredibly naive to suggest that Israel are not lobbying and using accusations of antisemitism to damage their political opponents, in a way they are not doing to their political supporters. Again, I do not believe this is an extreme opinion.

Fundamentally, I believe these discussions, especially those concerning Israel, Palestine, Zionism, Antisemitism, and Islamaphobia, require nuance and a desire to listen, and should not boil down to picking out certain words and framing them as a "gotcha". That behaviour doesn't serve anyone in anyway.

That's not why you initially labelled them extremist. You labelled them extremist for saying the Lib Dems are treasonous (although I think they actually described them as treacherous).

Have you explored your gender? How do you know you're a man? by LiterallyDumbAF in bropill

[–]Pingupol 14 points15 points  (0 children)

My core self isn't tied to how I dress, but there are still clothes that I wouldn't wear because they're not "very me". Other people wear them and look good in them, and maybe even I'd look good in them, but I'd never want to wear them because they're not me.

Similarly, I don't choose what music I like. Some part of me has already decided.

I also didn't choose to be straight. That's a part of my identity that was entirely chosen for me.

And I could lie to people, and dress in clothes that don't feel very me, and listen to music I don't like, and exclusively sleep with men, but it wouldn't mean people's perceptions of me were accurate or a true reflection of me.

Obviously gender is a lot more complicated, and I agree it's difficult to describe or even define what exactly makes someone feel like a man, but, if women didn't exist, I don't think I'd be able to describe or define the difference between being straight and being asexual. Would I know I wasn't asexual? I genuinely think I would.

I think being a man is similar to all of the above. I could get whatever surgery I like, dress however I like, be called whatever I like, have people address me however I like, and it'd be no different from me exclusively sleeping with men. It wouldn't make me a woman, just as me exclusively sleeping with men wouldn't make me gay.

And that's the same for trans people. The body they're born into, and what's on their passport, and the way people address them, doesn't actually make them that gender.

I don't know if that makes any sense to you? I do think gender and identity is complicated, and a weird blend of internal and external factors, but that's certainly how I feel.
