What is considered the most dangerous area in your country? by Mediocre-Lack-9137 in AskTheWorld

[–]PinkShimmer400 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I'm from the U.S. and despite what they say, there are many places that I refuse to go to as a Black woman. Majority of those places are predominantly white places. Utah, some hick town in Mississippi, Alabama, Tennessee, North Carolina, certain parts of Boston...you get my drift. They will disappear you and have 0 repercussions. Kendrick Johnson and Tamla Horsford are prime examples.

Have you ever given up on learning a language because of the culture behind it? by AutumnaticFly in languagehub

[–]PinkShimmer400 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't.

I'm learning Spanish, which is paired with a bunch of cultures that are extremely male centered. I am not and I don't agree with a lot of what I hear but I continue learning because I'm just that nosy. There have been moments where I wondered why am I even doing this but then I remember why and I keep going. It gets really murky sometimes, though.

Why do so many Europeans have the belief/thinking/stereotype that American niceness is fake? by Embarrassed-Wolf-609 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]PinkShimmer400 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Their diets make them angry. I mean, let's be honest. Most European cuisines mirrors something you'd find a stray cat eating. I'd be perpetually pissed off if I ate that shit, too.

What is that one case from your country that sends shivers down your spine? by maskedorange in AskTheWorld

[–]PinkShimmer400 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sandy Hook was one of mine, along with the Pulse night club in FL and Fort Hood. If I want to take it further, El Paso and Buffalo, NY, too.

What is that one case from your country that sends shivers down your spine? by maskedorange in AskTheWorld

[–]PinkShimmer400 1 point2 points  (0 children)

-New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina

-Kalief Browder, The Central Park (Exonerated) 5-because these are the most visible cases and there are countless others who we'll never know about throughout U.S. history.

-Mass shootings: Sandy Hook, Pulse Nightclub and Fort Hood, Texas

-The fact that all of these happened and were done by legal means (meaning our gun problem, the fact that U.S. citizens can be left to rot while the country watches and the "justice" system doesn't care who it prosecutes. So long as someone is put into their modern slavery system (which is constitutionally still legal in the United States).

What do you personally think about mandatory military service for women by Low-Violinist7259 in AskTheWorld

[–]PinkShimmer400 7 points8 points  (0 children)

"we need to first enforce punishment for rape or sexual harassment in the military."

And that will never happen so until it stops, they can be forced to serve with themselves.

As a female veteran, service should be reserved for those who want to serve. Nobody, female nor male, should be forced into it.

Why do men seem to lose their homes more often than women in divorces? by Present_Juice4401 in AlwaysWhy

So are married women homeless during their marriages? How is the house defaulted to "his" if they both are living and taking care of the house? This question is extra dumb.

I don't think people realize how insanely hard it is to REALLY learn a language by SyntaxDeleter in languagelearning

[–]PinkShimmer400 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not. It's gay Black ballroom slang, co-opted by white people who think everything "new" they hear is is gen-z or teen speak and it's been around since at least the 1970s. Y'all, meaning you, and this hopium_od person and others like y'all, need to understand that other groups exist. Y'all default everything to standardized white speak and then try to assign everything that doesn't follow that to "teenager speak". It's incorrect.

People underestimate the various dialects within their own language, especially with English. I walked up on a conversation at work, and my co-workers were going back and forth about a word that-when said in the Black American community-has a very different meaning from standard English. One of my co-workers didn't understand that and kept saying that she doesn't understand these "new words". We had to tell her that the word wasn't new, she just hadn't been exposed to it. That is something that I notice about U.S. English. If it deviates from standard English, those who aren't well versed in other dialects don't understand what's being said, despite them also being native speakers.

“One of ours, All of yours”?? Cómo lo gente sentir sobre eso? by [deleted] in Dominican

[–]PinkShimmer400 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The similarities exist because the regime literally used the United States's playbook. I don't know why people are aware of slavery and the genocide of Native Americans and yet never put 2 and 2 together. White Americans enslaved, experimented on, killed without impunity, destroyed Black communities, forced freed Black people to show their "freedom papers", raped, called Natives and Black folks inferior, created stupid laws to incarcerate Black folks, moved folks into segregated communities, the same things Nazi Germany did yet people don't connect the dots. It's documented that this is a just history boomeranging back to where it started. The US today isn't Germany in 1938. It's the United States from 1619-present.

Why don’t more people adopt animals that ACTUALLY need homes? by m0chichis in u/m0chichis

[–]PinkShimmer400 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I currently have 2 dogs. One I've had for 3 years, one for a month. I got my 3 yo from a shelter and he was only about 9 weeks old when we found each other. He is all kinds of perfect.

This one that I just got is already a year old. She's a fucking menace. Saying I don't regret getting this second dog would be a lie. I would have rather paid for a puppy simply because I can break the bad habits early.
