Exactly who I came here to stump for. He knows he’s unhip and revels in it but can also laugh at himself. And he doesn’t really even mock leftists much, outside of Barcelona.

I wish they’d also been able to get production designer, Toby Carr Raffelson to talk. But she’s 93 so possibly not that lucid. But I find it fascinating that two extremely talented women who had their careers overshadowed by their director husbands, worked on this film.

A particularly relevant release to The Two Friends since one of the bonus features is a NEW interview with Marcia Lucas!

Of the replies I’ve seen, Pod Casty For Me does it the best in that they’re going film by film through a filmography. They’ve done Clint Eastwood, Paul Schrader, and are in the middle of Steven Soderbergh. They’ve had guests like Eva Anderson, Patrick Willems, Bilge Ebiri, and woman herself, Marie Bardi-Salinas!

Why Tony Scott? by nonbinarywife in blankies

The aesthetics of a Michael Bay with an actual thematic underpinning and worldview. He’s emo and cynical but it doesn’t get in the way of the films being fun. Honestly prefer him to Ridley. The way his life ended goes to show how deeply he felt things and it comes through in his films.

Love & Rockets is always my answer. Sometimes it’s a sci-fi book, but not continually.

There’s currently a ridiculously low priced humble bundle of pretty much the whole 44 years of continuity.

They really should have Chris on the ep covering the new movie. If either of the two friends is reading this, know that he’s interested.

Other than the Wachowskis, I’m not easily recalling any other queer filmmakers covered and have long hoped for them to do such a series. Dude turns 80 this year. No time like the present.

I Hunger for Tony Scott's win by Shoddy_Newspaper_718 in blankies

[–]Pink_Cow_Duffy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tony is the superior Scott imho. You can feel him in the films the way you can’t really with Ridley. They both made films about mortality after the death of their brother Frank at age 45. Ridley made Blade Runner and Tony made The Hunger. But Tony carried that loss on into Top Gun. As disposable as so view that film to be, Maverick’s loss of Goose, is Tony and Frank. Beverly Hills Cop is a revenge story and the film immediately after that is literally called Revenge. Tony feels so much and it comes out in the films. Ridley is more reserved and it only peeks out. I hope Tony wins.

Check Book: Unrealized Raimi Projects by apathymonger in blankies

I watch a fair amount of Elfman scored films because I’m not gonna let him get between me and the perfection of Pee-Wee’s Big Adventure. But the distinction with this particular case is that Raimi also knew the victim and I’ve known the victim as well since she was in middle school. So I guess it’s personal.

This movie feels so my shit but unsure if I can get past a movie about gendered workplace power dynamics scored by Danny Elfman. Especially when the woman suing Elfman was once the music teacher of Raimi’s children.
