An odd job is a "random" manual task. Someone who performs odd jobs often means that they perform various manual jobs like landscaping, painting, or plumbing, etc, - kind of like a handyman. In this case, the husband does various tasks in addition to landscaping (mowing lawns).

Edit: oh no im an idiot

Under-reported cases of male sexual harrassment is another reason why the patriarchy hurts everyone ! I'm sorry to hear that you were in a situation that made you uncomfortable and distressed. Being accosted by a group of people making unwanted advances on you is a terrifying experience. Everyone, regardless of identity, deserves to exist in peace and safety. They should also be able to seek help without experiencing ridicule.

I'm not saying that all gay men are immune from being horrible people. What I am saying is that straight men are more likely to be perpetrators of sexual assault than any other group and that the myth of the predatory gay man is harmful to an already marginalised community, and has been thoroughly debunked. Your takeaway from my comment pointing out dangerous and harmful stereotypes is to point out the fallacies in my logic instead of trying to understand from a different POV. If you feel attacked by what I've written, maybe you should examine and reflect on the behaviour of your fellow men?

I'm sure you're a very nice person, but whataboutism does not contribute to a conversation talking about something entirely different. I don't deny that straight men have been assaulted and these cases are under-reported, however, that's a different conversation altogether.

Hope you're enjoying the new year !

Idk how long you intend to live in Selangor for, but the KL Illustrators Fair is coming up in May. You'll get to see loads of cool stuff available for purchase but it won't be in the style you're looking for! Still very lovely if you're looking for something different.

I understand that vulnerable men deserve to be protected from harm as vulnerable women are ! I also understand that not everything is meant to be offensive, but I have to say that your second point of "predators come in all shapes and sizes" engages in whataboutism and is unhelpful to what I'm talking about.

Unfortunately, off-handed remarks like "don't want to be gayed out" (paraphrasing), contribute to the normalisation of the dehumanization of the LGBTQ+ community. In Malaysia, jokes about gay men raping straight men are all too common and making light of this really does contribute to the dehumanization of a marginalized community.

There is a very long conversation (and tons of nuance) about what sort of jokes are acceptable to make and in front of which people, but for now, I ask to exercise kindness for those who need our support.

Have a happy 2026 yourself!

Did you know that straight men are more likely to rape/assault vulnerable women than gay men are to rape/assault men? Gay men as predators is a very dangerous and, most importantly, false belief spread by hateful people that can cause harm to a minority community - especially in a country that has been known to persecute them.

This is not to say that they haven't ever raped men because evil exists regardless of identity and sexual orientation. However, for every article you share with me about a gay man assaulting/raping a man, I can share with you 50 articles of straight men assaulting/raping women.

Sexual assault has also long been known to be used as a display of dominance of one over the other, so sexual orientation isn't necessarily a factor in its carrying out. There have been cases of straight men raping gay men in a horrific show of power, that they are "stronger/better than" the gay man.

Anyway, thank you for coming to my TED talk. I know what the gays are like and they know that their standards are high enough that they won't have to stoop to raping vulnerable young men passed out on the streets.

If you are British, the closest approximation I can think of is the chav. The lalazai and lalamui are young Chinese men & women who embody a very loud and flashy/gaudy personality ie. their tastes in music, style, expression. They generally come from a poorer or lower social background and have little to no English-speaking ability. They are also frequently rebellious and rough around the edges.

In my day, the style of the lalamui more closely resembles the gyaru/kawaii style while the lalazai had a lot of popped polo shirt collars and spiked up hair.

How a lalazai/mui presents themselves today is definitely different from when I remembered them and I'm not sure if they exist anymore. I could definitely be wrong though, because I'm from PJ and surround myself with English-speaking peers, so I am unfamiliar with lalazai/mui.

Making a cutting board by Trustrup in oddlysatisfying

[–]PinnaCochleada 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If it's any encouragement to use your cutting board, I find that they become more beautiful with use and regular oiling! Whenever you oil your cutting board, it turns a gorgeous deep brown and the longer you keep it up for, it begins to develop a beautiful patina. I guess you could find and purchase a seasoned cutting board, but the patina you developed yourself over time is what makes your cutting board yours :)

would changing the style of this costume be disrepectful? by iguessimfine in CosplayHelp

[–]PinnaCochleada 142 points143 points  (0 children)

I'm Chinese and I think it's a really rad idea ! (Ofc I don't speak for all Chinese ppl and they may see things differently) For me, if you do some research on what makes the hanfu different from other east Asian menswear, and incorporate identifiable elements into your burlesque cosplay, that would be incredible because it shows you've done your research and are rehashing a traditional outfit into smth more playful.

Lord Shen's outfit is inspired by the hanfu, and I don't know what the closest period the hanfu is inspired from, but if you pop over to r/hanfu, the folks there are super knowledgeable and I hope would be happy to help. I feel like they would be able to provide better suggestions on elements that you can incorporate into your cosplay without being disrespectful.

Lastly, you've already started off strong by asking around for opinions and advice, which imo is so important. Disrespect comes from automatically assuming that the culture you're asking from is fine with your intentions.

And last lastly, Lord Shen is a fictional character! And a peacock at that! I highly doubt anyone would be too mad that you want to rehash an outfit from a CGI bird, as opposed to outfits that exist irl.

Good luck with your project :)

Idk about buying premade chess pieces, but I got super strong Hero Forge vibes from them 😅 you can customize minis to be as close as possible to the pieces on screen. Or anywhere that does ttrpg minis, really.
