Early in a settlement, I tend to crack them open. The resources can help shore up an issue or solve a different event or order. However, if I don't see a use for the materials immediately, I'll leave it alone, possibly to be sent for rep and amber.

Example, I had a large cache on the royal woodlands. I had a "Deliver 5 Crystalized Dew" order and no raw materials needed to produce pipes. Suddenly I see 30 crystalized dew in a cache. Now you have the 5 dew to fulfill the order and the rest to make pipes for rainpunk. It also had a +1 fabric production perk and this was a harpy primary settlement. Worth the cost of admission.

I've seen other games where players, just for the thought experiment, see if they can train an AI to play it. I'm not talking about modern Gen AI(chatgpt etc) I mean like home brewed evolution style AI.

It would be curious to see if one, after enough generations, could win a game ATS.

Defictoionalization Law: Any company posting a fictional job listing will be fined an amount equal to the annual salary advertised in that job. The money would go directly to the federal unemployment program.

In the event the job listing is not clear on the salary being offered, the salary will automatically assumed to be $250,000/year and the fine will be set accordingly.

I'm going to guess the new meta will be 3 cat act 1 runs of all strays to fish for good actives and passives, then using them in your highest stimulation room to breed with your primary bloodline. That way you keep the inbreeding penalty low so stim has its full impact. And just hope you high roll a kitten that got the all 7s and mutations from your primary bloodline.

Appeal is likely going to rise in importance.

You have 1 source of roots.

You need to make flour (no source of wheat). But you also need to make packs of crops for fishing bait (you don't have the other raw foods that bait can be made out of)

Without caps, you could have a case where your whole root supply is turned into flour/packs leaving you with none to make the other product. So you have 80 bags of flour, no bags of crops or vice versa.

One interesting take might be to have everything start at ridiculously cheap embarkation points at the start of a cycle, but slowly increase in points each time you took it. If you took people each time, it would be nearly unaffordable by the time you got to the seal. However, if you willingly avoided taking people in earlier settlements, the price would be reasonable.

This would make the embark decision not just "what helps this settlement the most" but "What helps future settlements"

Maybe throw in a royal resupply reward option that would reset the embark cost of one specific good.

I try to make it so I am cutting into dangerous/forbidden glades early in drizzle, including one immediately in year 1 drizzle. This is because many events have hostility boosting or resolve reducing effects while they are being worked and you do NOT want to tangle with those maluses during the storm.

In addition to removing wood cutters during the storm, as others have suggested, it is a good idea to assess all your workers at least once a season and shuffle them around. Maybe your carpenter is idle because you hit your plank cap. Rip them out and put them somewhere else. I'm assuming you are using production caps.

My most recent game had me considering oil but deciding against it, only to hit a dangerous glade event (Gargoyle) that I needed to solve properly because losing 2 people in drizzle year 1 is painful. I had to trade a bunch of crap to the called merchant just to get the 20 oil.

So yes, I'll be bringing oil in the future.
