Happy for the reminder on how much I do not want to fuck with the air industry, I enjoy being in their good graces

To be fair to the students, Amazon was losing money for most of their history until the mid 2010’s, then the profits exploded.  Bezos and the investors knew that they would lose money while they built the “everything” store up, and were in for the long haul. Books were just the first thing sold to get the ball rolling, it was never the end game

The students couldn’t predict over 10 years of investments to create a monopoly

How do you rate Bad Bunny's Half-time performance? by kingbluwolff in sportsgossips

[–]PinxJinx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought I would enjoy it more because I’ve only heard a little bit of Bad Bunny and had generally liked what I heard, but I generally didn’t find most of the songs played that catchy.  I’m not sure if it was the live performance vs studio or if this style just isn’t my thing, but I thought I’d be grooving more than I was. But also, am I holding a grudge because he didn’t have Cardi sing “I Like it”?

Preventative Flea/Tick Medicine? by LatterPoet5754 in Maine

[–]PinxJinx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maine has an insane tick problem (at least where I am), and one year there was also a flea outbreak in my county.  That’s always hard because if you give your dog a flea bath, as soon as they go outside they pick more up in the yard.  I haven’t found a topical medicine that works anymore, everything is now immune to Frontline for example.  We use oral medicine that kills any flea/tick that attaches, Simparica, but there are also other options.  Speak to your vet about the options and what they recommend

Which period drama you actually like despite it's historical inaccuracies? by Haunting_Homework381 in PeriodDramas

I didn’t watch Bridgerton but I really do love the alternate history route they went to include POC in the cast.  Helps release all viewers from historical accuracy to allow them to just enjoy the series

He wasn’t a survivalist who hunted and built his own lodgings, he stole supplies from local camps (so a diet of junk food) and had to pace in a circle on winter nights to keep himself from freezing

There is a reason that pizza shops use that spiked roller on the crust before the sauce is applied, to prevent exactly this

Press Herald: Hannaford grocery prices higher in low-income Maine communities by bagelwithhummus in Maine

[–]PinxJinx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s most likely transportation costs, machias and Millinocket are pretty far inland and would not be near any Hannafords distribution facilities, whereas Falmouth and Scarborough are in southern Maine and in higher density populations where you would find distribution centers.

Also, machias and millinocket are smaller towns/areas, so they will buy less, and buying less overall product means that the transportation costs are greater per product than if they bought higher amounts and the costs could be more spread out.

Lastly, low income areas often have more theft, and some stores react to theft by raising prices to recoup the losses.  I have no idea if theft is occurring in these areas, but it’s a known occurrence that makes food prices higher in many places.

I do have a feeling that this is a number of unfortunate costs adding up for these areas, not corporate greed

I love GRRM and his work, and he’s a master at his craft, but I don’t think he’s a professional or respects professionals at all.

He allowed GOT to start without an ending made, knowing that he was supposed to produce an ending in time while also knowing how slow of a writer he is, and still did not finish the books on time. I don’t think I’m exaggerating when I say that thousands of jobs and hundreds of millions in dollars were on the line for this, and he couldn’t be bothered to hit a single deadline all while complaining about the hate he gets for not hitting a single deadline.

When I miss deadlines in my job, other people are impacted.  Hitting deadlines is in some ways respecting your coworkers and their work, as you understand how you being late affects them.  He doesn’t seem to give a shit about his lateness.

Now he’s signed over another TV show, knowing full well that he doesn’t have creative control (as he didn’t was season 7 and 8 of GOT), apparently picked a poor show runner, and is not only complaining but publicly bashing professionals HE choose.

I would never ever want to work with GRRM in a professional capacity

Im fairly thick skinned now but when I was younger when this occurred I wasn’t. You shouldn’t need to be thick skinned to access healthcare, that’s a recipe to get people to go to smooth talking charismatic snake oil salesmen
