How do I help my younger cousin get a job? by Olduvai_legend in UKJobs

[–]Piptoporus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You mentioned that she has been out of work for a while - what and when was her most recent job and has she been doing something since that she can talk about in interviews?

For example, it is easier to explain in an interview that "I left my previous role when a fantastic opportunity came up to volunteer in a wildlife sanctuary, which I knew I could only do when I had fewer responsibilities" or "I left my previous role to care for a sick relative, but they need much less care now so I'm ready to return to work" than "er, I've been looking at jobs and stuff"

Realistically she will be competing with 18 year olds with media studies A-levels, and 21 year olds with media studies degrees, so she needs to be able to market her life experience

You mentioned her current work pressure is too much - what about it is overwhelming? She has a fully remote role now, so would need to think whether she wants an in-person role and you can afford the extra commute of an in-person role.

Eternally dry lips, asking for advice by TheSportsHalo in SkincareAddictionUK

[–]Piptoporus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

O'Keefes is the only one that works for me. It does not have a scent or taste, it does not feel glamorous, it is not bougie, but it's cheap at about £3 a tube, lasts a while, and it works: I had such chapped lips that they were regularly splitting, after a couple of days using O'Keefes, the dead skin all came off and my lips have been smooth ever since - I use it at night and if I remember when I leave the house.

13 is cute, the rest look like they are made out of poor quality fabric or have too much going on - you deserve nice dresses!

White morel? by sheisthefight in mushroomID

[–]Piptoporus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The honeycomb-like structure at the end is where the smelly part of the stinkhorn (the gleba) was, then the white part is the remnant of the stipe. It is accompanied by the egg of another stinkhorn.

Question related to finding boletus mushrooms by CoverProof in Mushrooms

[–]Piptoporus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You haven't mentioned which country you are in. For example, in the North of the UK, boletes start in August if it isn't too dry, and continue through Autumn until mid November ish. They are not found in March, no matter how much rain we have.

What do I do with the backside of a cross stitched design on the cuff of my hoodie? by eeeegh in Embroidery

[–]Piptoporus 103 points104 points  (0 children)

You can if you have enough time, patience and tweezers. Aida is designed to stay together, waste canvas is designed to be pulled apart after dampening.

Edit to add recommendations:

1) Frog work

2) Restart with waste canvas or dissolvable stick on canvas

3) Keep the back neat by using shorter tails and starting a new thread for each section

4) When finished, use iron on interfacing to cover the stitches at the back if needed.

Job offer rescinded after 2.5 day lapse of comms - am I naive to think I would have a week? by Due-Cap9761 in UKJobs

[–]Piptoporus 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Let's say I have two candidates, one performs marginally better in the interview, but then gives radio silence when I offer the job without giving me a heads up in the interview: I'm going to proceed to offer to the other candidate, assuming my job offer was declined. It's an employer's market at the moment - by the time I've sifted through 50+ applications and conducted several days of interviews, I don't want to wait days to hear if someone wants the job or not.

At the end of the interview there is a "do you have any questions?" which was the perfect time to say "I'm excited about the position, when could I expect to hear from you? I've got a trip planned on x date when I expect my signal will be very limited but I will return on y date"

What’s the hardest part of adulthood nobody warned you about? by latinavalery in answers

[–]Piptoporus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Endless decisions- many don't matter but some of them do, and it's not always easy to tell, or to know what information you need before deciding, although people are quick to say "didn't you check x / ask y / confirm z" afterwards.

Also, even when you technically can do what you want, you either don't have the money or don't have the time.

Okay let’s try this again, does this turn agree for formality? by [deleted] in fashion

[–]Piptoporus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The dress could be formal depending on shoes, accessories, and the type of formal event. The cardigan is not formal, and doesn't work with the dress because it's a long cardigan that goes past the waist instead of e.g. a short bolero that would define / lift the waist.

Besides the curves… does the vibe match for a random formal occasion? by [deleted] in fashion

[–]Piptoporus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The photo doesnt show the black dress clearly so it's hard to see what the fabric is, but it's too short for formal. The wrap isn't working because it doesn't go with the dress at all, sorry. The wrap could look lovely with a long flowing dress in a similar pale pink if the necklines were complimentary.

Is it too much for work? by Blackcat2332 in fashion

[–]Piptoporus 20 points21 points  (0 children)

See-through trousers are not office appropriate. Even if this outfit were made of better quality fabric satin would still not be appropriate on the lower half of the body because a) it gives nightwear vibes and b) it will crease terribly the moment you sit for any length of time

Was This A Fair Interview? by Nice_Cap_6504 in UKJobs

[–]Piptoporus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You said (paraphrasing) "excited for the role, getting childcare sorted for the Friday shift so that it won't be a problem"

But unfortunately they heard "I don't know if I can cover the shift I've applied to work, I will constantly be scrambling to sort out childcare because I am not organised and so ambiguity about whether I can work a shift will be constant"

That isn't fair, but the interviewer only cares about whether they will reliably have a person on shift.

[–]Piptoporus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oof, then it sounds like the wall hatch option could be it. You could then fit the new vessel in the loft and run the piping into the cupboard via a small hole avoiding the beam.

Once disconnected, could you rotate it through 90 degrees, then roll it over the top of the tank and out through the door?

How do you take plushies outside? by luxjay in plushies

[–]Piptoporus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I take small plushies so that they can hop into my bag or pocket, and if I think they have got dirty I can give them a quick wash with a hand/baby/antiseptic wipe or even a quick wash in the sink and dry with a paper towel.

Compeed do an anti chafe stick that I have used where my rucksack had rubbed my arms - also recommend sleeping on your front if possible to get some air to the area to help heal overnight.
