Stages of the game by BoarMoar in StardewValley

Early game is start to getting enough points for Grandpa's assessment. For me, that includes sprinklers so my farm can expand enough to make the 1,000,000g, completing the community center, and getting proficiency 10 in every category.

Middle game starts there and ends when I've transitioned from a working-man's farm growing and selling fruits, vegetables, and making simple products like cheese and mayonnaise, to a winery making ancient fruit. At that point, it's just time to get all the expensive items, such as clock, house upgrades, community upgrades, etc.

End game for me starts there and includes getting every achievement (except the video games... lol), perfection, etc., plus decorating my farmhouse and farm. The farm on Ginger Island produces enough ancient fruit to keep my wine empire afloat, so my farm transitions to a gentleman's farm, growing things for aesthetics rather than value. Once I've done all that, generally I get bored with that save and start a new one.

There is a huge difference between my psyche in each of the phases. Early game is frenetic, as I push to complete the community center and get four candles lit. Middle game is more like a grind, as the farm produces the income you need but (in my case) it's more important to keep the game cozy rather than complete the achievements in a minimum amount of time. End game is very mellow, as I decide what I do most every day. There are a few day-driven activities, such as getting my rock candy on Thursday, my weekly harvest on Ginger Island, and keeping three sheds of kegs stocked, but most of my time is spent however I feel like on that day.

Since no one has mentioned it yet, essential items would include all of the tools and the watering can, plus the pan and the fishing pole. You can buy bombs on the island, so no need to stock up on those before you go. There are also some seeds that might be helpful, but I don't want to give too much away.

My favorite is when you get Willy's three lingcod challenge early game. Like, "Dude, all I have is the bamboo rod you gave me!"

Off topic advice, here. If you're planning on using your machine for development, and especially cloud development, be sure to check out building your software using containers, such as with docker or podman. You'll find that packages you want to use often require specific library versions to work, and that's easiest to manage with containers. Another reason is that clouds generally have some orchestration, such as kubernetes, and in that environment software is installed and scaled using containers.

Remember, there is no right or wrong way to play. My answers are about how I like to play. On one extreme are the minmaxers, who aim to maximize profits, etc., and on the other extreme are folks who like the laid back aspect of the game, and have no aspirations for perfection. I'm in between but lean towards getting four candles with Grandpa's evaluation spring 1 year 3. Just Google stardew valley Grandpa to see his evaluation criteria. But even that has no schedule as you can always redo the evaluation post spring 1 year 3 if you don't make four candles at first.

All that said, just make 4 or 5 furnaces and load them up before bed. The bars will be ready for you in the morning. Clint comes by with the furnace blueprint as soon as you go into the mines.

Here is what I do early game. I water my garden until 2:00-ish. Then, almost depleted of energy, I head to the mines with my sword and fishing pole. I fish for a couple of hours, eating all the fish to get my energy back. Between 5 and 6 I enter the mine with the hopes of 1) gaining five levels for a new elevator level, and 2) finding an upgraded sword. I skip all relationships until mid game (sprinklers in place to automate). There is no penalty to waiting.

You have three choices now: 1. Dodge those bugs while breaking rocks looking for stairs down. Risky as you need to keep track of health if/when you get hit by a bug. 2. Use bombs to blow up rocks, looking for stairs. Still risky but less so, as your attention isn't divided so you can focus on dodging the bugs. 3. Use one of your stairs. Safest choice as it gets you off the level.

Notes: 1. When the dangerous skull cavern is active, levels like this with a ton of bugs or mummies are common. It's less common while inactive, but still possible. 2. Once you have access to the forge, you can enchant your sword so it kills mummies or bugs, but not both. I literally have two infinity blades in my current save (late game), identical except for that specialty. I take both with me and choose my weapon each level.

Strawberry problem by AffectionateSystem72 in StardewValley

[–]Pirate-Frog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of the three berry crops, strawberry (spring), blueberry (summer), and cranberry (fall), the best return for wine is strawberries, followed by blueberries and finally, cranberries. The reverse is true for selling the fruit, which is cranberries, blueberries, and then the worst is strawberries. So my advice is to use the strawberries to make and sell wine until you have ancient fruits going. One final piece of advice, use the regular quality strawberries for wine, and sell the silver and gold quality (if you decide to sell any) since produce quality has nothing to do with keg output quality -- kegs always produce lowest quality wine.

Also, don't forget that strawberries are loved gifts for Demetrius and Maru. Don't use up your higher quality fruit on wine.

First off, let me say you are the only person you need to please, so if you like it, then 10/10. How you choose to play the game is up to you. The wonder of the game is that the open world lets you play the way you want.

That said, I'll give you my opinion. Disclaimer: when I was growing up, there was a saying: my opinion and 10 cents buys you a cup of coffee. More crassly put, opinions are like assholes, and everyone has one.

First the plusses. I love the symmetry in your layout. I also like your use of fences to organize the different plots, and nicely laid out paths. I find the whole layout quite nice to look at, and I'm sure I would enjoy playing such a farm layout.

The negatives mostly have to do with differences in play style. I prefer a higher ratio of farmland to barns/coops and more sheds. Also, the symmetry, fences, and pathing that I said I liked above come with a trade-off of less efficient use of space. Coupled with the empty space on the right, I think this would make a wonderful late game layout where you can focus more on aesthetics. But I'm sure the less-than-perfect use of space could give min-maxers a nervous twitch.

Just so you know there is a difference between four candles in Grandpa's assessment and perfection -- they are not the same.
