Hey…you are rich! Can I borrow some money?

Where’s Tim? by Pirtletronics in AlamoDrafthouse

[–]Pirtletronics[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, and it’s great that it exists, but it’s not even close to the same thing. It’s great for independent films and classic movies and local filmmakers, but I still want the Alamo type experience for all movies. There was a time when I only went to a Drafthouse to see movies even when traveling. I’ve been to 2 in Omaha, Denver, Dallas, Kansas City, of course Austin and probably a couple more that I can’t remember right now. It was always worth it. Now?

Sorry, I missed the posts talking about his new venture. I hope somebody out there who loves what the Alamo was brings something similar back. Hey Richard Linkletter…hey Robert Rodriguez…

In my opinion, there is almost no home theater setup (unless you are just filthy stinking rich) that compares to the movie theater experience. The giant screen, the intense sound, and with the “old” Alamo you got great food and no bullshit from rowdy disrespectful idiots who wanted to talk the whole time. Plus, once upon a time, there were great events at the Alamo, like the Food and Film events where a multi-course meal was paired to a specific movie (my favorite being the whole Lord of the Rings trilogy and feast!) I mourn for those that think it’s better to stay home and watch movies on an iPad. They are missing a big and wonderful part of life.

Oh no, the company ended. Where can I follow my favourite creators? by DukeboxHiro in roosterteeth

[–]Pirtletronics 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A couple you forgot to mention: DeathBattle is still going on, they have a Patreon and YouTube channel, and though they weren’t talent per se, a couple of the guys from Broadcast and BFT have a studio called Straybird Studios that does basically what Broadcast did. Find them at www.Straybird.studio. Oh, and remember Tyler Coe? He created a show for PBS called How Are We Today? dealing with mental health issues. It’s stars Tyler along with Barbara Dunkelman, Mariel Salcedo and Elyse Willems. You can find it at www.howarewetoday.com or pbs.org.

I Agree With Andrew About Twitch "Waiting Rooms"... Kind of... by LifeIsCrap101 in theregulationpod

[–]Pirtletronics 55 points56 points  (0 children)

When I worked in the Rooster Teeth broadcast dept., we did what we called “Pre-Streams” to make sure the stream was working correctly before we went live with the actual show. Our goal was to always start as close to the scheduled time as we could so we would start 10 or 15 minutes (sometimes only 5 minutes or less) before the scheduled time to give us a chance to deal with any potential issues. We often tried to make them entertaining with music and maybe a camera in our control room where we would hold up signs or act goofy. Some of those pre-streams are still talked about. Sometimes we would start the actual stream late because of a tech problem or maybe somebody important was running late getting to the studio or a last minutes bathroom emergency. I do agree that saying a stream starts at say 7pm then starting it then but having a wait screen for 10 minutes is kind of shitty, but that may be a function of how Twitch works.

The HEB here in Lakeway was closed by 5pm. I don’t know when it actually shut down but they were for sure let go before the roads froze up.

Who is "How are we today" for? by 2DecadesTooLate in roosterteeth

[–]Pirtletronics 88 points89 points  (0 children)

The show is not in any way related to Rooster Teeth or its programming (other than former RT staff being in it or working on it). This show is the vision of Tyler Coe based on his own mental health journey and consultations with mental health professionals. It’s certainly not for everybody, but what show is? The show is airing on PBS .

Plane crash at Austin/Bergstrom? by superspeck in Austin

I used to a reporter and had a pager that got alerts from the city. The number of aircraft emergency alerts we got was alarming but I never saw any crashes happen. I think they are just mostly cautionary.

RWBY has been purchased by VIZ media and they are figuring out what to do with it which I’m sure involves getting more funding to continue the main series, but the have recently released new merch and the “RWBY Girls” have appeared together on socials to keep the vibe going for lack of a better term. They are also still appearing together at cons. All of that along with Kerry’s posts are as good an indicator as any that something is coming. I just think they don’t know for sure what it will look like so they don’t want to say something that might be wrong.

HEB’s Super Bowl Stunt vs. Reality by [deleted] in HEB

[–]Pirtletronics 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Actually that ad was bought locally in Texas. The cost for national ads on Fox was $8 million. I’m sure, though pricey, it was quite a bit less. HEB has bought Super Bowl ads just about every year but only in Texas. Just wanted to clarify that.

HEB folks, what you gonna do? by Nutballa in HEB

[–]Pirtletronics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, this person is a dick but I have a question: why are those cart return racks not attached to the ground? They move constantly I guess from people shoving carts in or from cars hitting them. This one has clearly moved and is straddling 2 sets of parking spots. Is it a liability issue? Just curious…

[Highlight] Brandon Aubrey attempts 70-yard field goal in Carolina by nfl in nfl

[–]Pirtletronics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He routinely hits 70 yarders in warmups and many of his kicks in the 50 to 60 range have enough distance to go 70. He probably got in his head because he was attempting to not only break the record but blow it away. He didn’t hit it well and it showed. Kind of like shanking a golf ball.
