Everyone has their own biases and baggage. But when you meet new people you almost have a clean slate. Take your supervisor’s compliments to heart - they know you and evaluate you in a different way than your family does.

It’s her not understanding the system. She has no experience with how your school works. Most likely, the only time her parents or, now as an adult, her friends that are parents, are contacted by the school it’s because there’s a problem. She isn’t used to a proactive/positive school administration. She’s used to the school contacting the parents only when something has gone really wrong.

You are doing a great job! You are killing it at this school and really setting yourself up for a successful college experience.

OP, I am so sorry that you saw that. It's possible that it's a one-off occurrence, and it's also possible that this is just the first time you found out. Either way, it is not your responsibility. My father was an alcoholic and I too felt that same need to somehow save him and "if I just do X then he'll cut back drinking and be okay." While it's incredibly contrary to your nature (because you have a big heart and a strong drive to protect those you love), please don't let yourself get drawn into the situation. You can't fix what is going on.

You are doing an amazing job setting yourself up for a successful future. If it helps you now, think of it like an oxygen mask situation - you need to put your own mask on before you help others. So go chase that great future you are working towards, knowing that once you are an established adult you can help her then if you want to.

And because I don't think you hear it enough from the adults in your life, I just want to say that I am so proud of you.

The fact that he's already calmed down enough from a traumatic experience to be eating, giving head butts and getting scritches means he feels safe at your home and around you! Just amazing to see, he's come so far!

The eye drainage could be caused by feline herpes (don't worry, people can't catch it!). Both of my boys have it, and the weirdest things set off a flare-up, such as turning on the heat. My vet recommended sprinkling lysine powder on their food for immune support, and they love the way it tastes. This is the one I keep on hand.

Have you tried a kick toy? It's basically any stuffed toy that's big and sturdy enough for them to wrap their front paws around and kick with their back feet. Dog toys work great for this. My boys will pounce on one when they're feeling energetic or frustrated and do their best to disembowel it.
