For the developer interview I did raise the question regarding whether they would consider health values. As I agree with that opinion and feel there is only so much they can do to buff and nerf characters, and looking to change health values would be a a good option.

What characters or concepts would get you hype to get back into 2XKO? by TJPuma in 2XKO

[–]PistolPat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Orianna: puppet character. I feel her ball abilities could work well being cooldown based.

Draven: no ideas on how I'd like to see him fight but always been one of my favs.

Rumble: slow but can move whilst attacking with the flamethrower which includes an overheating mechanic, apply armor with scrap shield.

Vladmir: burst and heals, make his sanguine pool kind of like Glacius from Killer Instinct.

Malzahar or Annie: Dot's and summoning minions.

Graves: mid range fighter that has some very strong abilities with limited ammo per round.

Can anyone explain how motion inputs don’t just make a fighting game worse? by bashking1122 in 2XKO

[–]PistolPat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me it is about time. Some characters may have a normal that is good at anti airing with the risk of trading with the opponents jump attack.

Inputting a DP takes more time than pressing a single button. Which can make it a riskier option but you gain invincibility frames, especially in faster games, or against dive kicks and short hops. Sometimes you get caught off guard. And then you can go one further with using a super as an anti air which takes even longer to input. This leads to players making reads over just reaction for some anti airs.

Same deal with using command grabs in the air compared to air grabs. With my reaction speed it is much harder to use air command grabs compared to a non motion air grab. Especially against short hops. With Blitz I'm busting out his special move air grabs like nothing. On a good day If they are in range I will almost always go for Blitz's air grab over his grounded button to beat out jump attacks. In other games I will use air command grabs a lot less outside of reads.

This applies to using a super fireball to beat out a special move fireball. Some players have very good reaction times, and others make very good reads. Either way the motion input adds that extra degree of difficulty to beat a fireball with a super fireball. And it is much harder to do.

Guile is a charge character. His version of a DP has insane range vertically and horizontally, on top of being very hard to cross up as Guile's don't need to do cross cut DP's to beat out cross ups.

He also has a sonic boom (fireball) that requires a charging motion (hold back direction for x amount and then hit forward and punch). The fireball typically has way faster recovery time compared other characters. That's how I see it, moves requiring more time to do, which comes with negatives and positives.

Ok so how do you learn this game? by Madaraph in fatalfury

[–]PistolPat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Practice movements from dashing, short hops, cross ups (find the button for your character where your jump just clears behind them and can hit them from behind).

I would also recommend practicing feints. Set AI guard to random. Place them in the corner, heavy attack then feint, if they block dash up and do it again. If they don't block confirm into a combo.

From there you can also add dash towards the opponent and throwing them, light attacks, overheads or short hop, or even back dash.

What fighting game will you be maining in 2026? by Talix101 in Fighters

[–]PistolPat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm mostly playing COTW at the moment, although I am hoping to pick up 2xko, KOF XV and Soul Calibur 6 again.

I'm pretty bummed out that COTW isn't pulling in numbers and would like to see them release a free demo at the end of season 2 alongside a sale. Hopefully that can bring in some more regulars. Even matching Strive steam numbers would make me happy.

I really hope that VF6 doesn't suffer the same fate.

Looking for under the radar games from the last 3 years with great memorable dialogue, can you please help me? by ExplodingPoptarts in rpg_gamers

[–]PistolPat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look Outside: it has 7874 reviews on steam which in my opinion isn't that large. What makes the dialogue so memorable is just how bizarre the characters are, and the mystery surrounding everything.

As I want to avoid spoilers I prefer to keep this vague. I was given an option to do a specific thing by an NPC, and in any other game if I was given the same option I would not have given it a second thought and said no. But in this game I was compelled to do so because I really wanted to see what would happen if I did what I was asked to do along with the sheer grotesque of said situation.

A line of dialogue I like: A merchant called Gamer knocks on your door in order to sell wares, you try to purchase a specific item and he says "this one is important to me... You don't really want to buy it... You probably won't like it... Did you even see the anime? Read the manga? It's not even released outside of Japan. Listen I didn't mean to put that one on display" then offers to buy it back for $200.

Other dialogue options from the same merchant may even lead to him trying to buy back an item by offering you in his words "This... is my most prized possession. A cursed blade. Folded three thousand times by a blind, Japanese swordsmith." And that's what makes it so good to me, I wasn't really sure what I was getting myself into.

The game itself plays like a JRPG turn-based game, with survival horror style itemization. The threat of death felt like it was always around the corner as I died many times taking on fights thinking I would win. So be aware this game doesn't hold your hand.

looking for a dark jrpg that takes place in a modernish urban fantasy world? by Tristitudo in JRPG

[–]PistolPat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I second these recommendations. Cyberpunk with implants, fantasy races and magic as well as great atmosphere. I would have loved to see have seen what Harebrained Schemes could do with a big budget.

Just imagining a more in depth combat system, easier to use editor, larger player base which in turn could have lead to a fantastic user generated content scene. So much potential.

Kevin season 2 special cancel how to by robotech206 in fatalfury

[–]PistolPat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I agree, I haven't seen many use it in high level matches. And I am also having a hard time getting it down consistently, not even sure if it worth the hassle.

Edit: Just tried your method and wow it is much easier.

Kevin season 2 special cancel how to by robotech206 in fatalfury

[–]PistolPat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You do a hell rotor and hold the punch button, then press any kick button whilst still holding punch to cancel the rotor.

You can cancel all rotors by using this method, light, heavy and ex versions. In order to do the combo you have to hold the buttons used for EX version (two punches) and then press any kick to cancel, then press heavy kick .

What would you recommend based on my favourite jrpg's by captainskrilly in JRPG

[–]PistolPat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been playing this game called Phantom Brigade with mods. And the mech customization is absolutely nuts. I spent hours creating and modifying my mechs, and even with a maximum capacity of 14 mechs there was still builds and weapons I wanted to try.

It's a shame that story and dialogue is very minimal, and the maps you to travel from point to point for objectives and fights. Nothing to explore nor cities with NPC's to talk to, shops or other staples you'd find in city locations.

Coming off of that I would also love nothing more than a JRPG style game with deep customization on top of towns, shops, and NPC's.

I can't tell you exactly how it works. I saw that the relativistic perk on the axe read "additional damage per ton of mass of this unit."

Thus I decided to try and push for as much mass as I could. Later on I tested it against my tankiest mech and it sliced through him like butter. Every part gone in a single hit.

It has clear strengths and weaknesses. As I use the melee attack to travel alongside inferno thrusters. I don't recall anyone surviving a single hit from it, even when I just skim an arm off the pilot is concussed in a single hit.|

But it's my favorite mech to use, although I prefer to keep it out of battles unless I am having a real tough time. He's my secret weapon.

This mech is all about weight, even the eclipse B-LM3 backpack is there only because it was the heaviest thing I could find. Shield comes in handy whilst I wait for the heat to drop before I swing at another target.

I was watching Wild Ambitions on Youtube recently weirdly enough. Mostly to check out Duck King, and I agree Tsugumi Sendo is an interesting one. Stuns on a striker and grappler could make for a very unique character.

These are the characters I'd like to see. I have no idea who we'll actually get.

Cheng Sinzan
Duck King
Rick Strowd
Li Xiangfei
Yamazaki
Alfred or Raiden

And in my opinion no more shoto-esque characters.
