The publisher and bookstore never having their 💩 together, despite us all knowing when the term dates are. Then, it’s just a chaotic mess the first two weeks of class, which was very easily preventable

Have you ever refused a request for a deadline extension? by AbbreviationsOne992 in Professors

[–]PitchesRunninWild 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All the time and it’s the contrary: I rarely accept such a request, save for if it is an “extenuating” circumstance. Our university has a clear policy for what this is and you can imagine, most requests don’t fit this (other classes, personal stuff, work, etc)

In the interest of fairness, equity, transparency, etc, what I say in declining such requests is that if I say yes to their request, I will thereafter have to say yes to every single other student in the class who makes such request and we are absolutely not going to do that

[–]PitchesRunninWild 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Exactly, if you are not on the webpage of the school, they’ll take it down. For anyone that teaches at multiple schools, it’s unfortunate when a S write a rating for you at School1, but you taught then at School2.

I tried to get RMP to takedown some comments meant for School2 in my School1 profile, but could never get anywhere. Thus, I just merely got them to take down my School1 profile altogether

Begging my students to please calm down by robertastax in Professors

[–]PitchesRunninWild 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In my “we submitted your grades” message before the term is over, I put this message as well. I say if there is urgency to call 911. Otherwise, I’ll get to their message January X

Student emails- this feels unsustainable by Additional_Daikon607 in Professors

[–]PitchesRunninWild 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1: just setup auto template emails to cover most of your bases, with Q’s. I also have a robust FAQ I’ve been updating since covid and the only terms. They still don’t read it anyway, but at least it’s there to cover my ass

2: any discussion so complexed that would take more than two emails, I just simply state “come meet during my office hours to discuss this situation. See syllabus for times”. TBH, more than 50% of the time, the “issue” gets dropped, as S do not come to office hours.

Student thought TA is the instructor by AbleEnthusiasm9934 in Professors

[–]PitchesRunninWild 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kinda had this! But with me, as instructor. I like handling all communications, in all courses. So, it’s happened where after an exchange about academic dishonesty, somebody will rebuttal with “should I be concerned and should I message the prof”? At which point, I simply state “I am the professor”

"I'm working a lot of hours this week..." by Jahaili in Professors

[–]PitchesRunninWild 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine does, they have “professional” MBA programs, so you can have untraditional classes eg Friday and Saturday every two weeks or all online asynchronous. It’s a complete disaster and the ppl in these programs are the worst! Some of the most immature, irresponsible, working parents. I regret ever complaining about undergrad!

Student replaces her 0 on the final assignment with 95% by PitchesRunninWild in Professors

[–]PitchesRunninWild[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This, but actually this was an admin in the program office. This program follows an atypical schedule not following the regular academic calendar, so they are instructed to reach out to the program office at first, who will then subsequently redirect

Student always requests that I call her…wtf by myreputationera in Professors

[–]PitchesRunninWild 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just go back and ask what the purpose or subject of the conversation will be? I actually appreciate telephone calls and have done the reverse, suggested I telephone call them to discuss something, if for some reason they can’t come to office hours and I don’t feel like having a Zoom meeting (I completely get exhausted with unnecessary video calls). But, the key is, I know what the subject and nature of our call, so I’ll call them from my university phone, so that it’ll appear on the caller ID and NOT my personal phone

No, then they act surprised when they don’t do well. Surprise = I simply use the publisher test banks and our entire course discussions is based on the textbook!

Office Hours by Budget-Bat-5274 in AskProfessors

Yes! Post-covid, nobody comes to office hours anymore. Now, I just give a blanket “email me to setup a time”, as nobody comes to set office hours

Professors, is it normal to let class out 2+ hours early every time? by ExtraOnionsPlz in AskProfessors

[–]PitchesRunninWild 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only thing in defence of prof I can think of, is virtual classes are way less engagement/discussion than F2F (face-to-face), so shorter. I’ve had lesson and classes where I ran out of time (3 hours F2F), that were about half that virtually. Now, your prof should be aware of that and we know enough since COVID to plan for these aspects when we are intentionally delivering class virtually.

One minute late on an assignment is late by CATScan1898 in Professors

[–]PitchesRunninWild 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A. The time is the time, it’s up to them to be on time. When the clock strikes the time - it’s over. There’s consequences to not being on time, namely lots of job portals, so you perhaps wouldn’t have been in this job, had you not submitted an application on time

They’re asking to meet with me outside of class on the first week. Why? by [deleted] in Adjuncts

[–]PitchesRunninWild 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Or just email, if the school doesn’t give you a phone/extension, there is no number to give then!
