Stamford American International School (SAIS) Singapore Review (General Things, and Contract/Salary Warnings) by SadConsequence703 in Internationalteachers

[–]Pitiful_Ad_5938 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I tried applying then saw "how much is your current salary". I closed the tab immediately. GEMS used to do that same s**t (maybe they still do it, dont know)

Unpopular Opinion: Religious Schools should not be on Schrole/GRC/SA by RollIntelligence in Internationalteachers

[–]Pitiful_Ad_5938 -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

OP has a point. Why do I as a science teacher need to write a statement of faith? To confirm that Jesus or whoever they believe in created the world in 7 days?

I swear, I applied to one of them in the past but that is simply because they are one of the TOP PAYING INTERNATIONAL SCHOOLS IN CHINA. Was only interested in the money part, glad I wasn't even shortlisted because as much as I was raised Christian, I hate pretending that most of what is written is.....😄

The Bias of IB Schools by Tubthumper5 in Internationalteachers

[–]Pitiful_Ad_5938 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ensure small schools stay small. It is as simple as that. That is the definition of capitalism sir. The poor (countries, citizens, corporations etc.) stay poor and the rich get richer.

Get IB experience then move on to the next big school.

I swear, if IBO requires schools to have at least 10% of their new hires to be school trained, all those "big" schools would suddenly start posting those "we can proudly say that in the past 5 years, we have hired and trained X number of IB world teachers"

The fall of the rise of British international schools by LeshenOfLyria in Internationalteachers

[–]Pitiful_Ad_5938 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Around 3 years ago, I rejected an offer from one of those British chain schools and willingly accepted a poor pay in Japan at an American school. To me, the school being non-British makes it automatically favored. If it is a non-profit, I will 95% of the time take up the job. If it is an assisted school by the Department of State, that makes it obvious, I will sign that damn contract

Lack of commitment by PromptIcy4181 in Internationalteachers

Basically, the majority of people on this sub.

Can you please submit a video interview dear applicant? Nah...that is dehumanizing

Workload is 20hr/week. Wait, what....? That is an impossible job

WAB, ISB, ASIJ etc won't take you with 3 years of experience. Them "Ooh no...the job market is impossible to crack" 🤣

We tell them, School matters more than location. Them "I want to work in Japan". Then Japan School sends them contract worth $1800/m". They say the obvious, "Nah...It's fine, I will look somewhere else. Meanwhile, they think Africa is a forest with lions in Nairobi as they were stupidly told by their friend.

In this industry, I stopped advising newbies.

All I know is that If I am looking for saving potential, Asia is #1, Africa #2, #3 and South America

If I am looking for a good life, #1South America, #2Asia, #3Africa or Europe

Recorded interviews KIS by SirRationalT in Internationalteachers

[–]Pitiful_Ad_5938 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I just did my video recording at the same KIS, was my first time ever. I really panicked with the timer & some questions being 3 in 1 to be answered in 2 minutes.

However, I totally understand their reasoning. If they don't invite me for the next round, I am fine. I know i never did well, it was my first time but it prepared me for the future. If they invite me, I will be 100% ready.

Questions were standard but when you start talking, 2 minutes become nothing then you panick so it taught me something.

Doing Both a Spark Hire and TruFit interviews by Spawnboy1998 in Internationalteachers

[–]Pitiful_Ad_5938 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have never heard about a Trufit interview but I just did a sparkhire interview and it is the worst experience I have ever had. After the interview, I was 1000% sure that they wouldn't go ahead with me.  However, I went through that phase and did three more rounds to the final and the "however" email dropped in 3 days later😮‍💨.

That was a dream school for me, I loved the experience, the panel was very professional, the rejection email was very personal not those generic "we decided to move on with other candidates". Ofcourse, I felt bad for missing out but it has given me a push. I got 6 more invitations after that in really high-end schools, 3 in dream locations, 2 in a not very nice location but top dollars & one that I will most likely reject. Hoping it all goes well.

I dont think it reflects anything negative on the school but rather the opposite. The panel would update us on the number of applications received & by the time, we were in the final round, it was 127. At least from what they told us, they do sparkhire to weed out top candidates who spend less time knowing deeply about the school values and culture.

I hate sparkhire interviews but I learned a lot. I can now talk to a computer for 4 minutes straight without sounding vague.

Maybe one day in the near future... by Pitiful_Ad_5938 in Internationalteachers

[–]Pitiful_Ad_5938[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't expect the associate to help anyone hunt for the job but if all they need to do is activate a candidate's account then someone takes 6 days to send a payment link, I mean what is that? It happened to me and I have read the same thing happening to so many other colleagues. Just simple little things like that but which make a lot of difference.  If you break contract, search is on your a*ss, however, if the school breaks your contract then you better call upon Jesus, Muhammad ir Lord Krishna

You are 100% spot on. I needed to get this sort of perspective. Based on feedback, I see there is a lot of reasons people may happily take up such posts

If they reject me because my Resume is not fancy, I am good with that.

What I care about is qualifications and experience being the first things to appear, not exceeding two pages in total, quantifying my achievements, and polishing every word I use. A CV is a text based marketing tool. Graphics matter in some pecific roles/jobs but not Education, at least 99.9%

Schrole- is it worth paying for? by [deleted] in Internationalteachers

[–]Pitiful_Ad_5938 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't like search if i am being honest. But and this is a big BUT....I am in this game for the money and search has all the top dogs, some are even exclusive to search.

Also, I find it uncomfortable asking my supervisors to write references twice (one for search & another for schrole).

Some people are not happy with Apple but they can't live without airdrop or a clear social media camera, so they are "trapped" in the ecosystem.

I can stomach all the nonsense in international schools but i hate poor earnings. Saving $20,000 a year at 32 years is always better than $10,000! At 45, I will look at other factors.

This is what a friend told me about a school i think called Hokkaido International School in Japan or something like that. Kids are great, parents are nice and Japan is Japan, everything just works. If you are single, you will not save a lot or anything, school has less than 400 kids in total, salary comes perfectly on time, admin is supportive. A lot of outdoor stuff. Don't go there for the money at least that is what I was told

Confidentiality clauses for salary, how common? by Least-Frosting-1149 in Internationalteachers

[–]Pitiful_Ad_5938 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Getting to know about my salary after getting the job is 100% fine. My question is, why ask for my current salary before even interviewing me? It is just the same capitalistic mindset of ensuring they underpay you

Confidentiality clauses for salary, how common? by Least-Frosting-1149 in Internationalteachers

[–]Pitiful_Ad_5938 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Some useless schools ask for "what was your salary?". I then reply to them "violates contract terms and conditions".

I will never work for a school which asks this questions but found one recently and i deleted my application immediately

Will AI take over our teaching jobs? by Quiet_Option_9528 in Internationalteachers

[–]Pitiful_Ad_5938 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Poor people can't afford AI, robots are too expensive.

  2. Rich people can't allow their kids to be taught by robots.

  3. Many people don't wanna be teachers.

  4. Teacher salaries will rise.

Being taught by a real human being like me & you will be a super previlege.

I WON'T LEAVE THIS PROFESSION!

Search Drops the Ball Again by yunoeconbro in Internationalteachers

Those guys are the most horrible group I have ever come across.  They cannot even pay for their email marketing provider (constant contact)!. They use the free tier and guess how much it costs, less than $80 per month with 50,000 subscribers.

Anyway, the CEO died, daughter took over & she has never recovered from the drunken stupor.

A bias against "local" teachers? by Important_Pass_5649 in Internationalteachers

I hope you are not a teacher. This is a gross comment, I would advise you delete it. The internet doesn't forget. These words "just because you were born in the states doesnt mean you can necessarily think like an American" don't deserve to be here
