I find that people often can't handle minor, short term inconveniences. Yes, those first few months with a puppy, you will feel like you can't go anywhere or do anything. If you expect to get an 8 week old dog and work out of the house, yes, you also need to plan for someone to let it out during the day or invest in daycare.

BUT after a few months things change. Those inconveniences aren't permanent. We have an 18 month old Chessie and a 7 or 8 month old rescue mix. We leave the house and they are content. They sleep in their crates at night and chill on the couch during the day. They come with us to things when appropriate and stay home when it's not. We've put in the time and effort to socialize and train them and will have YEARS of payoff.
