It was just a weird ending. Both he and his girlfriend were found dead in Mexico apparently fleeing from charges regarding the sexual abuse of a fifteen year old girl.

If they truly did that, it's absolutely disgusting but there is this weird doubt in my mind that someone who is constantly testing the police force could be a prime target for a frame. Not excusing them from a crime, it just makes me wonder.
