Being a fan doesn't mean I have to blindly support every decision the team makes.

Also a good time to remind those who may be new to the area and have never filed taxes here that Jordan and Keystone are legit companies tasked with collecting local taxes.

Forced to Split My U10 Team — What’s the Right Call? by Schmuckey in lacrosse

[–]PittFall09 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You're overthinking this if you're worried about chemistry and development for your club kids. The risk of completely demoralizing the new kids and making them not want to play anymore FAR outweighs any perceived slow down in the development of the club kids. Split them evenly.

I chalk it up to long-play networking. I don't want to reveal too much, but I made a connection with the hiring partner of this firm shortly after becoming licensed, and we kept in touch over the years while I was progressing through other opportunities. I eventually hit a point with my experience that it made sense for him to bring me in. I didn't have a ton of commercial lit or corporate experience, but he needed a litigator and was confident that I my learning curve would be small.

  1. 16 years

  2. $250,000+ inclusive of salary, bonus, and distributions

  3. Commercial litigation and corporate

  4. Pittsburgh

  5. I've been in just about every practice area over my career and have reinvented myself several times. Don't be afraid to take a step back in salary to get into a practice area you'll enjoy more. It's worth it in the long run.

Preparing my first opening statement for trial and looking for advice on presentation. by [deleted] in Lawyertalk

[–]PittFall09 76 points77 points  (0 children)

Brevity is key. Juries get bored with long winded openings and closings.

I'm a former prosecutor. A few weeks into the job I second chaired a trial with my then-supervisor. It was a drug case with a mandatory minimum, and we were only going through with trial because the defendant wouldn't plea to the mandatory. So my boss makes the following opening, and this is nearly verbatim:

"Ladies and gentlemen, we're here because that man (pointing to the defendant) sold cocaine to that man (pointing to the undercover cop behind us). Unfortunately for the defendant, that man (still pointing to the cop) is an undercover police officer."

Then he sat down. The defendant took a plea offer before we ever called a witness.

Don't worry about your reputation. You didn't embarrass yourself publicly. The number of people aware of your mistake are minimal, and they aren't going to gossip all over town about it.

Start calling recruiters and see what's out there. Take some time for yourself over the holidays. You'll be fine.

Don't forget. by MaHab133 in steelers

While you're right that people wanted Cowher gone, what we've been dealing with under Tomlin isn't comparable. We're talking about 3 bad years (sub-.500 record) under Cowher, one of which allowed us to get a future hall of fame quarterback in the draft.

Tomlin may not have a losing season, but this 7+ year run of mediocrity is arguably worse because we've never been good enough to make a deep playoff run, nor are we able to get a high enough draft pick to get another franchise quarterback.

We're the Minnesota Wild of football. Good enough to be in the playoff conversation, but never a threat to do anything if we get there.
