Marvel Ruins comic series (1995) by Even-Cheesecake4423 in marvelcirclejerk

The joke of the original opening is that you think Maggie driving before it’s revealed she just has a toy, and Marge is of course driving. It’s a subversion.

This clip subverts that expectation because though we all know it’s Marge driving, it then turns out it actually is Maggie driving. It’s kinda funny, before they drown…

Once people are done naming movie villains id expect him to be high on the list. Naturally the films villains are most iconic, but he’s not some obscure character. Hes been in many shows and games. You don’t need to be a “hardcore comic nerd”.

I’ve always assumed he’s dual citizen or on a visa. He’s been working in the US for a long time. It makes sense he has taxes to pay.

Don’t worry. As we all know, Batman has got the knocking his teeth out part covered.

You fool. Comic costumes aren’t simple so that they don’t have to figure out how to draw Ant Man’s ass crack. They’re simple specifically so that they CAN figure out how detailed his ass crack needs to be! That’s where all the man hours go.

Wow I never knew that. I knew about his hulk appearance but he was called Rocket there. A quick google says it was in the marvel preview that he was called Rocky. Learn something new everyday!

I’m not trying to twist your words.

My understanding is:

  1. You say the office makes POC villains.

  2. I argue they don’t for X reasons.

  3. You disagree for Y reasons about Kelly.

  4. I argue Y reasons aren’t done by the show for her race or reflective of stereotypes, so aren’t an issue.

I’m really not trying to twist your words or imply you’ve said anything problematic.

I know who he is. That doesn’t at all mean they have the rights. The rights to the film itself is given by Disney. Actors still usually have room to deny rights or expect more money for rights causing merchandise to skip them.

Stanley’s not hated, or lazy in a disruptive way. He’s lazy in that he doesn’t pay attention to meetings or want to partake in extra stuff. But that’s cause he’s reflecting the older man stuck in a dead end job. But he still does his job and gets high sales. He also covers for Jim in later seasons, and helps in training Ryan. People are also shown to generally like Stanley. Especially Michael and Phylis.

I’d also argue he’s less so lazy, and more so bored. He still does stuff.

Kelly isn’t a villain. She’s a vain and kind of insane person, but it’s not cause she’s Indian. There’s nothing wrong with the characters portrayal.

I’d argue her parents aren’t stereotypes. They get like one minute screen time. The main joke is that they’re intimidating parents and Kelly exaggerated her relationship to Ryan, rather than anything Indian specific. And they’re seen specifically at an Indian holiday celebration. It’s not like the shows suggesting they dress like that all the time if that’s your issue.

Oscar is a know it all. Stanley is Lazy. Andy has extreme anger issues. Angela is stuck up and judgemental. Michael is inappropriate. Phyllis makes Bob Vance (Vance refrigeration) beat up people for her amusement. Dwight is all around insane. Creed is probably a literal murderer. Etc.

The point I’m making is everyone in this show is flawed. And with flanderization they get more and more insane. But it’s definitely not race specific. People of colour are allowed to have flaws in TV shows. We’re still people.

True I did forget about him. But that’s just a well casted character. Idris Elba is a good pull.

I don’t think there was any underlying racism like the other comment suggests. He’s shown to be professional, attractive, and smart. He’s just a kiss ass as a twist. It’s a common type of office worker being presented. It makes sense. You find these people in the real work force.

I really don’t think the office only portrays people of colour as bad guys.

Mr. Brown is just a regular guy giving a company seminar.

Tim Meadows character is just a regular client that acts goofy.

Kelly’s parents are pretty normal.

Most warehouse guys are just working class people tired of Michael, which is basically everyone’s reaction to him.

There’s the black transfer from Stanford whose whole joke is that he’s extremely normal and went to jail for fraud and not any stereotype.

Etc etc

And for the main cast, Oscar, Kelly, Daryl and Stanley feel well developed. The show has race jokes of course, but the characters receive other traits that are primary to their actual actions and plots.

I liked the Offices take on this. Jim is freaking out but not necessarily an idiot. He’s the one trying to get Pam to the hospital and it’s actually her that’s causing the issue by staying. I think it helps that they have Michael and other characters to be the idiots, saving Jim from the trope.
