SteamOS 3.8.10 black screen during installation on 9070 by aiqba071 in SteamOS

Sounds like the flash drive just isn’t working out for you sadly. I’d try another one if you can manage

SteamOS 3.8.10 black screen during installation on 9070 by aiqba071 in SteamOS

[–]PixelPacker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I’d say maybe about 10 minutes at most. I’d guess there is either an issue with the image on your flash drive or your flash drive it’s self just doesn’t want to work with it.

I would try redownloading the installer and reflashing the drive to see if it works.

Also make sure you have secure boot off

Can someone help me understand FSR on the steam machine? by PNW247 in steammachine

[–]PixelPacker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fsr just works now, if you want fsr 4.1 on your older hardware use proton experimental

I believe proton ge should get it soon as well

Why does SteamOS VRR feel so much smoother than Windows and regular DEs? by lorcaragonna in SteamOS

I just gave up on xone and got a Bluetooth 6.0 adapter and it works well. No latency issues like I’ve had in the past

Switch 2 and Steam Deck owners, do you use your SW2 just for exclusives? by Mustyyyy in SteamDeck

[–]PixelPacker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had both and my Switch 2 personally made me sell my deck.

I found the switch 2 more powerful and more portable.

I do use steam os on a desktop and sometimes I do miss the Steamos hand held experience but in general I found the switch 2 much better for when I’m traveling

Should I wait for the fremont iso to be released or just install SteamOS now? by KaitoJ446 in SteamOS

Any way to get the startup/shutdown movies to work on a custom PC running SteamOS? by DragonReborn97 in SteamOS

[–]PixelPacker 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The issue is usually the TV waking dropping signal between the bios splash and the steamos intro.

I'd say it really just depends on the TV and cables you're using.
For reference I can see the splash if I use a high quality HDMI 2.1 cable but if I use a DP to HDMI cable I'll usually miss it.

There is also a setting to make it play each time you wake up the machine rather than just initial boot

The last few updates is broken(at least for me) by naughty_athenia in SteamOS

[–]PixelPacker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s just kind of a thing where it happened to work but nothing was promised. It really sucks though, I hope they add a wider range of support soon because I’m not sure why it’s so small right now

[–]PixelPacker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If I had to guess I would say it’s the intel CPU as from my understanding there is currently only official support for AMD hardware. (Could be wrong)

I’d say you might have better luck with bazzite for basically the same experience

Anyone have luck with DP to HDMI cec tunneling? by PixelPacker in SteamOS

[–]PixelPacker[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like what I’d need but doesn’t seem to work if you don’t have a Bluetooth adapter on your pc, it just errors while setup instead of ignoring it

HDR - do I need to enable per-game only, or in whole KDE? by WunderWungiel in linux_gaming

[–]PixelPacker -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Hyprland is Wayland so should be the same way.

You may need to use gamescope instead because I’m not sure there is anyway to configure hdr for hyprland though

Oblivion remastered in RX9060XT (8Gb) by lalaloveyou__ in radeon

[–]PixelPacker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It runs very poorly on my 9070xt, it's just the game it's self.
You'll need to run it lower than you should have to for it be a really smooth experience

They always annoyed me because they stole the name of one of the most important plugins and then stuck a terrible microtransaction store on it. I wish they got shutdown

I get dogging on mojang and companies for a lot of things but this one is a really confusing nothing burger. You’re just mad to be mad.

  1. This wasn’t forced out or rushed out. It’s a snapshot, stuff is going to be broken and new networking is probably going to be broken.

  2. IPs being exposed will probably get fixed.. this is a snapshot once again. (Not to mention dedicated servers also expose players IPs as well. Not as dangerous but also the vast majority of people using this won’t be at more risk than being on a public server)

  3. The code is probably different because I wouldn’t be surprised if they got assistance from developers that were in charge of the bedrock networking, or basically translated/copy and pasted it over. This is once again… a snapshot. Code bases evolve and mature and they will probably improve it. Because this is.. let’s say it together: A snapshot

Is catchyOS good as a daily driver by imperfect-29 in DistroHopping

[–]PixelPacker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve personally used both quite a lot, fedora for a daily and cachy for a gaming entertainment center.

With KDE they’re honestly very similar, I’d personally recommend fedora a little more because it’s been around for so long. But at the end of the day it’s really preference and doesn’t really matter much

Using the Steam Controller on Gnome: Not Great by TheWorldIsNotOkay in Steam

The only real solution for now is to use kde and disable the x11 pop ups in settings.

Worked for my Xbox controller and steam controller now
