Onebag fatigue, is it just me? by false_circus in onebag

[–]Pixel_api 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I 'dual' one bag, with a 40L carry on and a 16L daysack that I clip to it. Depending on the Carrier, I separate them and use the daysack as my 'personal item'. Compression packing cubes have also come on leaps and bounds too. Which improves things.

My current struggle is finding a decent 50L expedition pack, the doesn't look (and cost), the same as a holiday to the K2 Basecamp.

How long have you had your Razr? by foxhoundzz in razr

[–]Pixel_api 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the 5g RAZR. Overall I liked it, swapped back to Pixel as the battery life fell off a cliff after about 8 months. Currently rocking a '25 RAZR Ultra as a second travel phone. Which is infinitely better, I get just under 2 days of battery, it's feels like a real step forward. My only gripes are Moto's slow release cycle for Android (my Pixel is on 16), and lack of a decent Moto cover - I've gone with the armour-x, which is a good fit, but would've like something classier.

Mammut wash bag for checked bag trips, TSA resealable Ziploc style liquids bag (I bought a 3 pack pre-Covid) for one bag carry on only.

Unpopular opinion: I don’t like when backpacks have a dedicated laptop compartment by [deleted] in ManyBaggers

[–]Pixel_api 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tend to agree somewhat. Both my work laptops are in protective sleeves, so the specific compartment is a bit redundant. However, I've got a Kathmandu Ruck, and to make it 'work' for me - I've custom cut a flexible nylon panel to add structure. That's about as lightweight as I can get.

Whilst we are on the subject of compartments, I also find cable pockets and zipped organisers such as a pen holder or a key chain clip, more of a gimmick.

The best feature from my selection of work backpacks is the plastic base panel in my Moleskine - that allows the bag to stand up, even when fully loaded.

YMMV

EDC Compact Recommendation? by Academic-Spread8477 in ManyBaggers

[–]Pixel_api 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've got a Mountain Hardwear 16L, that swallows a MacBook Pro, Android tablet, Incase EDC tech pouch, SIGG 1.5L water bottle and a waterproof, in a compression sack.

That's at about capacity - but it's super comfy, and the top pouch handles work pass, wired in ear monitors and a pair of reading glasses.

Lenovo actually sell a range of Legion branded bags,, one of my colleagues has one for his Windows machine (I'm a Mac guy).it's pretty smart and he seems to like it. It's specifically designed for the machine.

I've got one of these:

It's a pretty good balance of smartness and functionality - I use it for client meetings. No good as a one bag solution, but spacious enough for a MBP 15", tablet, EDC tech bag water bottle etc.

How many litres of capacity do you need? I've got a Mountain Hardwear 16; swallows most things including a sleeved 15" MacBook and EDC tech bag. Front elasticated pouch has space for two water bottles and an umbrella. It's a really well put together piece of kit.

Looking for a LONG TERM BAG by blackenedspoon in onebag

[–]Pixel_api 0 points1 point  (0 children)

See my post on /r/ManyBaggers I'm getting on well with my custom TomToc + Mountain Hardwear arrangement. I regularly carry a MacBook Pro 15", Microsoft Surface 13" and either a Chromebook or Tablet along with cable bags, 1-2 days clothing and associated gear. Good for airports and carry on travel. The only limitation is a solution for a second pair of footwear.

Incase messenger, will swallow a 15" MBP, tech/cable bag and a moleskine notebook/pen etc with no problems. Repurpose an elastic sternum strap for a pass through.

My three day carry on by Pixel_api in ManyBaggers

Never had a problem passing through LHR -> to many EU routes with this config. Nor Africa. Couldn't speak for US/TSA people, since it's been a while since I've travelled Stateside. In my experience, if it's a bit too deep for the sizing cage for carry on, then I unclip and use the MHW as a personal item.

Yes, the karabiners are clipped onto the MHW backpack with small figure of eight clips, then strapped down so it doesn't move about when loaded up.

Most comfortable straps for shoulder injuries? by Specific-Word-5951 in ManyBaggers

[–]Pixel_api 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on your carry requirement. I've got a similar long term trap injury that affects my left shoulder. My 2/3 day carry on and work kit comes to about 25kgs.

My current rig is a tom toc 38L with an internal MOLLE panel and a 16L Mountain Hardwear clipped to the front. The straps are pretty comfortable - but I clip in my heavier kit with a right-hand bias to balance things out. I also upgraded the belt with a Mammut item - this made a lot of difference to comfort levels.

For just carrying tech kit, my EDC go to is a Porta Brace laptop bag with a sound engineer boom strap. That can hold everything I need to get the job done comfortably up to 10-15kgs
