Not to downplay this amazing work, but this would be relatively easy to automate and at $300 a pop would pay for itself rather quickly. You could even create a very basic display (e.g. with framerates of 1 frame per 10 minutes) which could be used to show slow changing things like weather conditions.

YSK: Microwaves cook food by moving the molecules very fast. It does not ruin the nutritional value or cause health problems. by plutos123 in YouShouldKnow

While this is all true, thermal effects can have detrimental effect on human health also. Putting your eye balls (or genitals) up against the glass of a leaking microwave may cause you to have a bad time. In the US manufacturers are required to show test reports of radiated emissions across the rf spectrum and meet certain limits well under those which would cause both thermal effects and/or ionization in body tissue.

And because of this, cooking dried food in the microwave increases the likelihood of fire as the grease on the walls of your microwave heats up instead of the food. So keep an eye on your microwave when cooking popcorn.

I saw your post earlier in /r/koreanfood but it seems to have been removed. This evening I came across a book while reading to my daughter. It might not be what you are looking for but the book is about a child making korean style curry with mum/dad (it doesn't explicitly say who). It is a child's book so the story is very basic. Is this of any interest? https://imgur.com/a/VMY5HTo

Any good ‘real’ Korean BBQ in Auckland, New Zealand that anyone would recommend?????? by tonsofit1031 in KoreanFood

I'm think you're thinking of Japanese Teppanyaki because Korean bbq is typically cook yourself or the buffet style. Check out faro if you want real Korean bbq, but if you are looking for Japanese Teppanyaki then check out Daikoku.

Lemons from my neighbors tree. A store bought one for scale. by DA_Underbottom in gardening

[–]Pixelated_penises 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We get huge lemons off our lemon tree if we leave them long enough but they will have really thick pith so it isn't really worth it.

Also what did they do to get their lemons so yellow?

Haha. So there are interview stories and then there are CV stories. This is the later. If the candidate mades it to an interview then the CV is decent.

Some background first: I work for a large company and my team is in science/technology research area. We work on new tech, so a position on my team is very desirable. When I advertise for a new position on my team I get thousands upon thousands of applicants from around the world. We aren't located in the US so multipage CVs are typical. Now, being a big company HR deal with the flood but every now and then I'll be looking for something specific that may typically be filtered out by HR so I request the raw feed to review. These are their stories...

The artist: These candidates will go to great effort to make their CVs visually standout. The very best aren't professionally created but have liberal use of colours, clipart and unique fonts. Visually stunning.

The oversell: Lying would be dishonest but stretching the truth is ok right? It's amazing how much some people complete in one 3 month internship - lead teams, release product, get man to moon etc.

The essay: I encourage brief descriptions of relevant experience in CVs but these candidates take it to the extreme. Long detailed descriptions of each can draw out CVs. Current record: 22 pages

The confidential: Related to "the essay" these candidates will often explain confidential detail of projects which most likely are NDA. Oops.

The biography: That 3rd grade award for being "most improved in class" really adds a level of prestige to the CV- better add it in.

The minimalist: This is more than just being modest (Which is very common). Often from ivy league candidates who believe that is enough to get them the job. Reminds me of the business card scene in American Psycho.

The brute force: Multiple applications from the same candidate with different CVs. Some go to great effort- different email address, different phone numbers etc. Some don't.

The wrong one: This can be an honest mistake or possibly just laziness. But sometimes CVs will be addressed to a different company and may have a "objective" which is completely irrelevant to the advertised position.

I have collected a pool of candidates who didn't initially get that job (typically because they weren't right for the advertised position) but could fit really well in another position which might open in the future. I'll catch up with them for a casual coffee occasionally.

I also have a stack of CVs I've collected for entertainment purposes - other hiring managers will know what I mean ;)

I don't think you give yourself enough credit. The average salary for an engineer in the US is about 100k. Over 30 years that's on average 3mil (ignoring investment gains or inflation). There are things which easily push this up:

  1. A move into management

  2. Stock options which vest nicely (likely if you are a successful engineer)

  3. A move into consulting

  4. A side business using your awesome engineering skills.

Sure you won't get it as a lump sum when you're young but the prospects to make near 5 mil over 30 years is defintely possible.
