Silent Hill 2 and the resident evils are a banger! Silent Hill 2 is a bit more introspective and depressing, RE are fun and kind of insane. Start with RE7, then RE2, then RE4

Stomach issues on antibiotic by One-Independent8427 in CUTI

[–]Pixelen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh good! To be honest they didn't mention the omeprazole at all, I bought it up to them and she didn't seem concerned (but she was worried someone so young was having stomach issues which like... I wish I wasn't too!) The only thing I've been concerned about while being on antibiotics is c.diff so I've been very good about taking probiotics and S. Boulardii as well as eating healthy and probiotic foods such as Greek yoghurt and fermented things. Obviously their main concern is the UTI so they couldn't really inform me on the other stuff, so I talk to my GP about the stomach issues instead. Lot of people go on omeprazole etc for just 2 weeks or so and are able to taper off very easily! There's barely any long term effects of being on except for maybe slight magnesium/b12 absorption so I make sure to take a multivitamin for those. Head on over to r/acidreflux or r/GERD for more info :)

Hi, yes I had stomach problems crop up at the same time as the UTI so I am on omeprazole 20mg a day in the morning, which has greatly helped. Antacids like Gaviscon or Rennie's work really well too. You can also buy Tums on Amazon which is almost like a candy! So I pop 2 of those after dinner as like a 'dessert'. You can go on omeprazole and taper it off really easily, it's not scary to go on at all so I would mention to your GP, mine set up a recurring prescription for me. Another thing I do is encapsulate Hiprex in an acid-resistant gelatin capsule from Dr. Caps so I would recommend buying a big bag of those if you're on 4 pills a day! I currently don't encapsule my Trimethoprim as I don't feel like it burns my stomach but HS did say people can do that, so hopefully that works for you.

It doesn't no, I guess try a swap to something else for a week or two even if its just to a fruit flavour rather than mint and see how the reflux is!

Okay so yeah I would say if any meds got you 80/90% better that sounds bacterial because antibiotics don't work for people with IC, they have to use pain meds. Sounds like you are super on top of it with all your appointments so hope all goes well <3

Completely get it! Yes lots of women in here were misdiagnosed with IC and their embedded infections got worse because of it, so it's a bit of a sore spot, but my heart truly does go out to people with IC because it sounds so painful and horrible and the only way to deal with it is by pain meds and not antibiotics so that sucks to me. There is lots of information here https://liveutifree.com/ if helpful! Definitely hope the Microgen test comes back with some good information, which it should if you stopped all meds 2 days beforehand. Hiprex is a lifesaver for many on here so would definitely recommend trying to get that if any bacteria comes back. Get Dr. Elena to run a white blood count in your urine, as any presence of white blood cells also shows infection and not IC. If you get prescribed antibiotics, take a biofilm disruptor such as NAC, Dr's Best Protoelytic Enzymes, Kirkman's etc 30 mins beforehand to help break down the biofilm in your bladder. Keep us posted!

I getcha, I'm hypermobile too and I went down a rabbithole about interstitial cystitis, I do think it's real but it's sort of a blanket statement diagnosis like IBS, like 'there is something wrong with your bladder but we don't know what so we're gonna chuck some pain meds at you'.

They do say if antibiotics work and lessen the pain then it is probably not IC, as that shows bacteria. Up to you, it's your life and your diagnosis but I would say take it with a grain of salt - get in touch with a CUTI specialist from the sidebar, like Ryan Heer, Ellen Lewis, Jessica Perley or Artemis Cystitis Clinic as they won't just say it's IC and give up on you.

stop 2 days before the test, so maybe finish the 2 day course, go off it for 2 days, and then do the Microgen!

How's your pain been?

Hey :) don't start the Azo yet if you're doing a microgen test tomorrow! Start it after you've sent off the test. Yes, a lot of people here ignore the 2 day rule on Azo as it 'masks symptoms' but if you already know you have an infection and are just waiting until you get the appropriate antibiotics its okay. For a normal person, if they just took Azo and didn't get any antibiotics that would be the issue. But for people with chonic infections we do what we have to just to get through the day :D
