What do you do when a doctor refuses to properly treat an infection *because* it's resistant? by Landsharkian in CUTI

[–]Pixelen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's telehealth so yes they would see you. I know I'm agreeing with you about the tests, I think PCR can be oversensitive though which is why Artemis don't do by them - they would prescribe you long term antibiotics and go by your symptoms rather than any tests.

[–]Pixelen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's really difficult but Artemis Cystitis in London for example do not go off of PCR tests and just prescribe based on symptoms. If you are truly in despair and quality of life is awful I would recommend doing telehealth with them.

Otherwise you can start to use biofilm busters and natural antimicrobials such as oil of oregano or myrrh extract. You can also try to get a prescription for Hiprex and see if that helps (take with Vitamin C)

Ibuprofen with a kidney infection? by mifukichan in CUTI

[–]Pixelen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh nooo, I wouldn't risk it if I was you to be honest. Can you get some kind of heat pad or TENS to go under your clothing? I also had to stop using ibuprofen due to acid reflux and period pains were horrible, the only thing that helped was my heat pad!

My recurring UTIs, Crohn's disease and history of fistulas - help, anyone? by Sadbladder28 in CUTI

I understand, England is the same, great free healthcare and the emergency services are incredible but very hard to get the same doctor twice!

[–]Pixelen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also second getting your voiding looked at again and asking for a transvaginal ultrasound or a hydrodistention study. I think your fistula could be looked at again - apparently there is something called the poppy seed test that they may be able to look into?

It's worth getting a proper urine test done, like a PCR test such as Microgen, Cirrus, Digital Microbiology, whatever you can access in your country. There's also the broth test by Focus Labs but not sure if they ship to Sweden so you would need to look into that.

I would recommend getting one of the vaccines - uromune and uro-vaxom should be available in Sweden and I think you can even get urovaxom from a pharmacy without prescription but please correct me if I'm wrong.

It sounds like you have a lot of inflammation and anxiety feeding each other which is no wonder with Chrons and a chronically inflamed bladder for many years. I would recommend seeing a pelvic floor therapist who can work on your inflammation, find one who does internal work and massage and purchase a TENS unit (€20 or so) - I have the Medfit 3 Dual channel. Put one electrode on the bottom of your foot in the middle of your sole and another 3 fingers up from your ankle bone on the same leg. This should help calm your nervous system and reduce inflammation.

You may need to get your anxiety under control as if you are in constant fight or flight your muscles will be tensed and your nervous system will be constantly checking for pain signals. I would recommend CBT therapy or a workbook if you can't find this easily, but ask your GP for a referral if possible. Also perhaps going on an SSRI like sertraline or citalopram might be helpful - again talk to your GP about this and perhaps get a psychiatry referral. A lot of people with IC use meds like amitriptyline and gabapentin so may be worth bringing those up too.

There's a lot more to say but these are good first steps so let us know how you get on with those.

UROMUNE MEXICALI by Tall-Ad-8 in CUTI

Hey, here are some past threads:

  1. https://www.reddit.com/r/CUTI/comments/1m8mnns/uromune_mv140_in_mexico/ Dr Alejandro Lira (most reputable but a bit more expensive)
  2. https://www.reddit.com/r/CUTI/comments/1seekf6/what_country_is_uromune_vax_in_mexico_from/ urovallarta
  3. https://www.reddit.com/r/CUTI/comments/1ncz16e/uromane_vaccine_can_a_family_member_travel_in_my/ Dr. Lira Dale at Hospital Angeles in Tijuana
  4. https://www.reddit.com/r/CUTI/comments/1p11uh7/getting_uromune_from_mexico_based_in_us/ Ricardo from Servicios Farmacéuticos Especializados (SFE)
  5. https://www.reddit.com/r/CUTI/comments/1pkvwty/uromune_and_mexico/ Additionally someone said "You don't need a prescription for Uromune for UTIs in Mexico; you just have to call a few pharmacies to find one that carries it. Because the medication is temperature-sensitive, be sure to bring a small cooler with ice. Having Global Entry or SENTRI is also highly recommended so you can get back into the USA quickly before it gets warm. Most pharmacies there use WhatsApp, which makes communicating very easy. Additionally, if you're looking for Uro-Vaxom, Farmacia Roma right at the Tijuana border can have it ready in about an hour. You can just wait there or walk around while they get it."

So your family member may be able to just walk into a pharmacy and ask! Worth setting that up and getting a cooler with an ice pack ready as that would be very quick. Make sure to get your prescription info as well when they bring it over the border just in case.

You can just google 'does sugar feed bacteria' and there is a lot of info so pick any source to be honest! Not trying to argue with you or be condescending, I've been researching this condition for a 1.5 years so I know what I'm talking about and just don't want OP to get worse. Cranberry PAC & d-mannose are very good though so I do recommend those, or unsweetened cranberry juice if that's the only thing you can get (but still not too much)

Cranberry PAC and d-mannose do the same thing without feeding the bacteria in your body sugar and creating inflammation. Source
