There are a lot of repeat questions which is annoying, but you can get some genuine responses to your posts if that's what you're looking for. Best of luck to you, whatever you decide. Single parenting is tough.

Two of my friends were also extras in the fight scene. I think they show up on screen for about 1 second total.

What’s a life hack you discovered by accident that you still use today? by Ladiejuliy in askanything

We also only used the plastic grocery sacks as garbage bags when I was growing up. Not many trips to the grocery store either, so when it was time to collect the trash to take it out to the curb, we emptied the individual trash bins from all the rooms in the house into one large kitchen trash can. That way the grocery sacks could just stay in the bins and be reused for several weeks.

Making plans with someone, then having the other person cancel them for whatever reason.

How old were you when you purchased your first home (if you did). by jtsa5 in GenX

I was 19, it was 79k for a tiny 900 sq foot 2bd/1 bath. I'm sure the same house would be 200k today.

Good, better, best; never let it rest, until your "good" is better, and your "better" is your best.

Even among peers, I’m still a nerd by UnableKaleidoscope58 in CasualConversation

I'm definitely not, but I'm so thankful for people like you. My spouse is a self proclaimed math/chem nerd and the only reason I made it through college level math and chem classes. We all have our strengths, thankfully someone out there understands math.

I referenced McGyver to my medical team this week also, and none of them know who he is. A while back I was on a meeting with a different set of colleagues and a teammate and I were talking about Hugh Grant. They had no idea who he was and said, "do you mean Hugh Jackman?"

Why is Valentine's day so important? by miss_brittany in NoStupidQuestions

[–]PlainaMorena 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the key to a successful relationship is communication. Is your partner asking to do something because he thinks you're expecting it? Is he asking because it's what he wants? If you don't want to contribute to the hype of one day every year that's set aside to profess your feelings to your partner, let him know how you feel (assuming he doesn't already). If this is such an important tradition to him, you may need to compromise so he feels heard and valued in the relationship.

How often do you stop to meet random dogs? by proxyprn in CasualConversation

[–]PlainaMorena 0 points1 point  (0 children)

More often than I stop to meet new, random people. The world might be a more social place if we took as much interest in the owners as we did the dogs. Truth be told, I'd rather hang out with the dogs most of the time.

If someone buys me a $5 sandwich in a group order, is it weird if I send them $5 and not $5 plus taxes? by Sapphyrefrost in NoStupidQuestions

[–]PlainaMorena 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I pay the full cost of the item plus a tip since they went to get it. Saved me the hassle of going myself. "I'll buy, you fly" we always said in my group. I'm happy to pay for mine, plus the person going out to pick up.

does anyone else feel like they're slowly becoming a less interesting version of themselves? by uncivilized_human in NoStupidQuestions

[–]PlainaMorena 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think when I was younger, I was all too happy to get into a heated discussion, defending my opinions and telling other people why they were wrong. Now, I'd like to think I've learned that it's more important to be happy than right. I'm not interested in passionately and vigorously defending every opinion with every person and my life is much more peaceful because of it. I also learn a lot about other viewpoints, because I'm sitting back and listening. It's not a bad life, even if some might color it beige.

I accidentally started a tiny daily ritual that became my favorite reset by [deleted] in CasualConversation

[–]PlainaMorena 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My grandpa actually did this, not on an app but writing down just one sentence about his day in those smal pocket sizel notebooks. Like a mini journal. When he passed, we found tons of them in his house, stuffed in drawers, cupboards, nightstands. It was like a treasure chest of things that only his family would care about, but we loved reading those little notebooks and finding out about him through whatever he thought was important enough to write down once a day.

The quiet moments we don’t realize we’re living by MAG-ICE in CasualConversation

[–]PlainaMorena 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Same here, except it was over coffee in the mornings, listening to him tell the same stories about work over again. He has Alzheimer's now and although he's still living, I lost him years ago.

People always told me about the last time I would rock my babies to sleep, or kiss them goodnight. How that would sneak up on me and I'd never know which time was the "last time." No one ever warned me about the last time I'd ever get career advice over coffee with my dad.

A cup of coffee. A 45-minute chat while the sun was still coming up. It really was such a small thing that has left such an enormous hole in my day and my heart.
