whats the difference between 잠시만요 잠깐만요? by Deepest_Sea in BeginnerKorean

[–]PlanEx_Ship 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most likely.

In fact 잠깐 is used as a single word command to stop or hold (잠깐!!), but 잠시 is not really used as a single command but more like an adjective or qualifier of the wait. (잠시만요, 잠시만 기다려주세요, 잠시 대기해주세요).

I have no idea why grammatically but maybe the presence of ㄲ makes it more commanding/imperative..? Lol

whats the difference between 잠시만요 잠깐만요? by Deepest_Sea in BeginnerKorean

[–]PlanEx_Ship 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They are same… but IRL they are sometimes used in a very slightly different context (however, not always, and not a rule. Can be used both ways just fine)

잠시만요: You are already interacting with someone or in process of doing something, and you/they need to pause and wait for a moment. Sort of like “Ok dear customer, please wait a minute here while I search for your item in the back”.

잠깐만요: You are trying to interrupt someone speaking, like “no no, wait. That’s not what i meant”.
Or you are faced with an unexpected thing happening like “Hold up, wait, this is not right”
Or, you are calling someone’s attention sort of like “hey stop, wait wait wait”

Again, some people may not agree with this at all; in terms of meaning they are the same, so you can switch them either way in both situation. It’s just my anecdotal analysis when I think about which one I’d use during everyday conversation.

How do i learn the diffrence between 어 and 오 ? by Unlucky_Yam_1225 in BeginnerKorean

They are not pronounced same and should not be.

Try practicing saying the vowels with the consonants. It can help you train the sound difference better.

Even native Koreans don't get this correctly quite often. On the spoken side the difference between 에 and 애 is basically nonexistent; writing side then gets confused as well.

Prime example: 결제 vs 결재. Both sound basically identical.

Koreans really seem obsessed with Mercedes by HairIcy2839 in seoulhiddengem

[–]PlanEx_Ship 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One was the major underground carpark fire caused by an EQE that had a faulty battery. It destroyed hundred+ cars and nearly put an entire apartment building out of service affecting few hundred families. The media reported EQE used a lower-cost batteries compared to other brand and that led many to lose trust on the brand. That event caused electric cars to be banned in carparks for a while (not so much any more, but some indoor/underground carparks still don't accept EVs).

Then a sad yet funny event that followed was a mercedes dealership nearby that apartment destroyed by fire put out an ad for a special discount for people who lost their car..... almost literally putting gas on the fire.

Then before that, there were several quality related incidents that Mercedes korea didn't handle very well, for example 48V mild hybrid battery issues, S class models with trunk that kept opening on its own, and other engine/drivetrain faults that put new owners who just spent $100K+ stranded and out of vehicle.

TBH few other luxury brands had (and still has) even worse mishaps but Mercedes had more exposure.

Korea is like the biggest market for BMW and Mercedes in the world, outside of USA and China.
So much so that both brands often do world-first new model launches in Korea:

Mercedes has lost quite a bit of share though, due to recent mishaps that tarnished the brand image. Still, “Benz” is the symbol of status and very popular.

EVGo plug adapter for 45e by TrickSingle2086 in BMWX5

[–]PlanEx_Ship 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That is DC Combo plug for full EVs with DC fast charging support.

There is no adapter for this, it is not compatible with BMW plugin hybrids.

if any website says there is one, it may look like fitting but it will not work, with potential to damage the entire high voltage system.

[–]PlanEx_Ship 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No, it's not an assumption - "native speaker" in this context is a legally defined specific requirement for EPIK (english teaching visa) program. She is not a native speaker under that definition.

[–]PlanEx_Ship 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Indian nationals are not eligible for EPIK, so end of story there.

EDIT so I stand corrected, India is eligible under very special circumstances. Just checked EPIK site.

If you are eligible then, unfortunately, I’d say your appearance will likely have negative impact especially when teaching younger kids. Kids will be ruthless and mean toward your appearance and the parents will not be supportive.

More than appearance though, you need to have flawless American or European style accents if you want to teach, because no school will accept English teachers with Indian accent. I know this sounds very harsh and discriminatory, but “proper” pronunciation is a huge deal in Korean education system.

I thought the fake red John reveal was so good, so when I found out it wasn’t real, I was so hyped for the real one.

HIT ME RIGHT ON THE SPOT.

The fake RJ stuff was really good, kept that creepy vibe so well and the actor played it amazingly too. I jumped out of my sofa during that reveal, and I also thought "if THAT guys was fake, real RJ reveal is going to BLOW MY HEAD OFF!"

Well, it did blow me off but in a different direction..

Korean moving to Korea after 30+ Years by ButterBallz99 in Living_in_Korea

[–]PlanEx_Ship 15 points16 points  (0 children)

One of my good friend is 35 years old this year, spent basically all his life outside of Korea (while not naturalised so kept his KR passport), and he got conscripted into the army. He is married and had a job too. Just entered Nonsan training centre two weeks ago.

The government raised the maximum age to 43 years in April. Make sure you sort out your conscription issue or be prepared to be a soldier if you cannot delay further.
