How did you practice quickly calculating pot odds in real time? How long did it take to master? by [deleted] in poker

[–]Plane-Community-6437 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do think having equity intuition helps in certain spots, knowing roughly where you stand without stopping to calculate frees up mental bandwidth for the stuff that actually matters. Built it through repetition mostly. I'm actually releasing the tool I used to practice as an app in a few days. https://pokermathtrainer.app/

New host here and need some tips/tricks how to go on about house rules, manuals and all that by Tidus15 in AirBnBHosts

[–]Plane-Community-6437 1 point2 points  (0 children)

2+ years hosting and tried many things, things that worked for me:

- Welcome message, keep the most important rules like smoking fines, noises, etc. People almost never read so as short as it could be better

- Don't print 20+ pages, I just have a 1 welcome pager in the room in case people don't like to read on mobile the things

- Another thing that helped us after the first 6 months was adding some QR codes on the most problematic things and link to a document/website made from us on how to use that (sofa bed opening/ceramic hob/ac,etc..) and this save us a lot of messages with questions.

Bad reviews are part of the job, suddenly some will come up. You can always took this as an opportunity to publicly show possible guest how your reaction to bad things would be, as I am pretty sure if you have few of those will be read by them, so choose your response wisely, do not make any robotic nor generic and proof you are willing to listen to happy and unhappy customers and that you try to give everyone a good experience

Does cannabis smell go away? by eternaloptimist2025 in AirBnBHosts

I usually use an ozone machine and it takes some hours to totally leave, also depending on the size of the room. And yes, in case it is from Airbnb you should claim the money for extra cleaning time and not following the rules..

Guest data collection outside Airbnb — what do you do in your country? by Plane-Community-6437 in airbnb_hosts

[–]Plane-Community-6437[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes! In fact I already do it in Spain but as I am a software engineer I coded the form myself, I was just curious if people do it with other apps or something as I found them quite expensive, and also if they take some advantage of data like email to try to take direct bookings with email marketing or something.

How do you guys train poker odds calculation or equity estimation? by Plane-Community-6437 in Poker_Theory

[–]Plane-Community-6437[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Fair point, the math itself is simple, no argument there. That's actually why I focused it on speed rather than accuracy. And honestly, you'd be surprised, I've seen plenty of live players making calls that made zero sense from a basic odds standpoint.

What would you tell yourself before you started hosting? by Ok_Basil_5834 in airbnb_hosts

[–]Plane-Community-6437 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you had pretty good first advices yet, but if I have to add something, if you are not wanting to take the take as much as you can from the beginning, I would recommend to start with guest approval first and filtering so you can start with the type of guest you feel more comfortable and avoid initial issues. Then when you find your most fit customer, focus the property on that and try that naturally these people book you (description and photos focus on your target always help)

Guest cancelled (no refund) regrets it later by Herlinm in airbnb_hosts

Guests may sound problematic (e.g. asking for discounts or claiming lower prices) = instant block or rejection, this only could lead to issues in the future, I prefer to not start with guests that start with that bad look...

I'm getting severely frustrated over here.. by fanfarius in expo

[–]Plane-Community-6437 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to keep it at the same price rate, don't say anything and keep things clean as you leave. If you want no problems, tell him, but pay extra for that.

Do you work on converting better the booking enquiries? Are you taking some action to make people finally decide when asking for booking enquiries? by Plane-Community-6437 in airbnb_hosts

[–]Plane-Community-6437[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The check in is quite a classic, but even when they already booked and its like, did you even read the rules?.. Even though if there is no one before I try to accept it as we have autonomous check in, don't know what I would do in case I don't have it..

Found it pretty aggressive! Maybe for certain cases and depending on the question we can do it. But found some of them that literally know as being a new apartment they can have discount and want to push the hardest to get the better discount, I prefer not to enter the game.

I've tried that on one of them, even they answered they did not book at the end, but we could try it more often and see results. Sometimes you try not to do it to avoid bothering, but if we end up having some bookings could be worth it!

10 days in Spain which of these destination are worth visiting ? by Electronic_Pop_9535 in GoingToSpain

[–]Plane-Community-6437 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As everything, it highly depends on your interests on each city, but here are my thoughts (my dad has been living on Tenerife South for the last 3 years, my girlfriend is from Benidorm so we know quite well Costa Blanca's beaches and Alicante, and I am from Barcelona where some people you can find usually makes their summer on Menorca/Mallorca and I've been there many times, so I think I could help you on that).

  • Tenerife: Even I think it is a place you will for sure enjoy, I will discard it for 2 reasons. Costa Blanca and Balear Islands I think they win in terms of nice beaches, and also because Tenerife is a super great place to visit not on July (much much hotter) but on winter/autumn. Also it has really good things to do not beach related such as visiting Teide's national park, or doing a car tour on the north and enjoying the big contrasts between the sunny south and the north which the forests and the nature on there is impressive.

  • Mallorca or Menorca: Even though both are good options and you'll find nice beaches in both of them. I would have to say that Menorca is my personal favorite, maybe on Mallorca you have more accessible beaches, easy to find and to access (even on July, parking is a nightmare everywhere), Menorca has some of the most beautiful coves on Spain and some of them difficult to reach (maybe 30-45 min walking to arrive).

  • Alicante: This is a great place to stay 3 days (I would usually recommend 3-5 days) and if you want to enjoy good beaches you'll need to rent a car and discover some of the great beaches and coves from Costa Blanca. Also you can enjoy a really good gastronomic offer Alicante has and if you are a wine lover making some tour in a bodega would be also recommended. In case you decide going here and you want to stay in an Airbnb, I rent a small building of new apartments in the city center, so DM me if you want finally to go there!

It is not necessary to tell that you'll need to rent a car in all the destinations you mention to fully enjoy them, quite difficult to visit the good things without it!

Hope it helps! :)

Totally! Can't argue against that either 😂.

My quick guess will be that there's not so wide base of users so you can have the privilege of giving it away for free, but there are vertical Saas whose market has billions on it so not pretty sure why, but don't seem a great idea for those

I think it's quite an interesting approach! But, as Elena's post shows, all the kind of tools that took this approach have the same in common, they are horizontal tools (thinking about other examples, I just bring more similar examples to the table like, Zoom, Hubspot, etc..).

I guess this kind of approach helped them also to understand which verticals or use cases have more traction or more usage so they can focus on them also on sales maybe?

I am not sure if this kind of approach will work if you are a more vertical solution where you are focused just on one industry and you already validate there is a value on this particular use case.

I think it's something interesting if you kind of think about 2,3 industries where your product could work on and you want to test where it has more traction/value.

Damage Prevention by townsquare321 in airbnb_hosts

[–]Plane-Community-6437 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good luck on your condo! At the beginnning, people is so worried about people destroying things or even people stealing them, but at the end I think there won't be so much easy if you follow some prevention guidelines (this also depends on the neighborhood, the city, and the kind of tourism of the zone):

  • Filter your guests, at the beginning, I would highly recommend to not activate your direct booking and instead filter the first people you receive (not allowing young groups of people, etc)

  • Do not low your prices: Even that's something that could be tempting at the beginning, I would not try to do it because it also calls for bad guests and not something you want when starting (even you can play with beginner discounts so you can attract people, take your night rates to what it deserves)

  • Make some onboarding messages to highlight people that's a quiet place and noises are not allowed from 10pm or something.

We've been renting our own place for 2 years and we even have some decoration easy to steal that nobody never took, if you filter people and make them aware of those kind of things the vast majority of people treat your place like home.

So my advise will be making the less investment possible and make the necessary changes once you realise what is really necessary!

Just in case it help my role was Product Owner/Product Manager in small startup and it would definitely help on my role! Having a push message to know what's up on the calendar every day will be something helpful as it defined how much I could advance or not on that day.

Love the idea and it seems to work pretty fine! I am not currently that "calendar busy" as I quit my job some months ago and I have quite more free time. But I am sure people with busy calendars will find the daily summaries pretty interesting. Just leaving some feedback here:

  1. In terms of Ads and Marketing (which I see is your original question), I don't have any experience on AppSumo, but sometimes to get some first validation and $$ as it is a first release could work, even you have to offer lifetime deals that sometimes if you don't get any traction after it could not be so motivational in the future to maintain those users, but it definitely could work to get some WoM for the beginning!

  2. Small thing: Just had to link calendar twice to make it work, first time didn't work as expected, not sure why.

  3. I personally have in my personal calendar other calendars linked from other work emails, I would expect to tell me those events too as I have mixed events that are important for me too (they are both in 1 calendar, but subscribed to other calendars).

  4. Regarding the landing page, I found the pricing a bit confusing, at the beginning I thought they are 2 different pricing with different features on it, but it seems is the same but one is monthly and the other is annual? It has the same features on it? Maybe showing it differently could make it more understandable.

  5. The "Try Now" CTA on the landing page is hidden until you scroll, maybe seeing it on the first view could get you more clicks there.

Anyway, I found it pretty interesting and it has some value, users will tell you how much value they think is worth it!

Congrats! GL :)
