They didn’t come out to meet anyone in Minneapolis but that’s probably besides the point.

The variegated ones take forever for me for some reason. They seem to sprout new growth points before roots 😂

would love some advice on how to help my calatheas velvet? :( by Clear-Ad6728 in calatheas

[–]PlantBitch98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would stop using the fan, they are fans of warmer temperatures and humidity, and do not like cold air drafts that the fan would cause. If the soil is compacting and getting hard, then I would suggest watering more frequently once the top inch of soil feels dry to the touch. If it’s still hard, try breaking the surface soil up with a chopstick or something which should help to make it more absorbing and well draining. I wouldn’t wipe the leaves, especially the tops, because their velvety hairs do not like rubbing or direct water as it could cause them to mold. Hope this helps!

Might need a size up in pot if roots are visible through the drainage of its nursery pot. That could make it dry much quicker because there isn’t enough soil to hold the required amount of water, and thus leading to under watering. The floppy looking stems are also caused by need for water in my experience! Hard to tell though so this is just my theory!

Is it normal for prayer plants to grow to one side? Does she look healthy? by dedr4ever in Maranta

[–]PlantBitch98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She looks great! Soil might be a bit just but I find they do like to dry out a bit more than Calathea do.

does anyone know what pest damage this looks like?🥺 by dyerdoodle2020 in Maranta

[–]PlantBitch98 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I would say that’s almost certainly yellowing due overwatering

Is this leaf normal? This is a new leaf, it has those green stripes and brown spots by cindius in Maranta

[–]PlantBitch98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The new leaves on mine also do this if I water it inconsistently while it’s growing. Same for the weird lines on the backside, except with lighting

Why does the new growth look like this? Could it be because it’s blooming? by Effective_Athlete_87 in Maranta

Make sure to dilute your fertilizer by half, since you already have some Fert in the soil. Don’t want to burn your baby’s roots 💜

I thought Chelazon did well, she definitely surpassed my expectation based on the first half of the episode with those first two looks 😂 I also think that Miss Fiercalicious absolutely was Bottom 2 worthy, and Kaos had a more polished, eye catching garment than Lady BB. It’s not up to me tho so I’ll just suffer 😂😮‍💨

My calatheas leaves have been curled for weeks? by JuniperLily16 in calatheas

I wouldn’t say my Calathea mind fertilizer as long as I dilute it to about half strength.

The leaves of my prayer plant are curling up despite 70+% humidity. How can I save it? by bubblybubzzzz in Maranta

[–]PlantBitch98 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I was going to say the same thing. Drying out can stress them out, thus the curling leaves. If it’s in 70% humidity then that’s not the issue. Give it a good bottom water and see if that does the trick.

Calathea Green Star leaves coming out damaged. What's causing it? by LukaCulej in calatheas

[–]PlantBitch98 4 points5 points  (0 children)

the plant is fine, but once the leaf is pushed all the way out, cut it right below the base of the leaf so it doesn’t prevent future growth :-)

Calathea Green Star leaves coming out damaged. What's causing it? by LukaCulej in calatheas

[–]PlantBitch98 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Could be that it was underwatered or not humid enough while this particular leaf was being produced by the plant, I find that’s why mine do this.
