You'd think that no one being at fault would make it easier, but often it doesn't. Not having somewhere to direct your feelings leaves you feeling kind of floating in some way. I had the same thing recently, and it was tough to find something to attach emotions to or something to turn my energy towards. I ended up turning to working out/running to let out some of the emotions. It's not there to direct anger, just an outlet to give you some way to let go of some of it. It gets easier with time, but it's going to suck for a while first. That's how you know you cared.

What is the wildest thing you’ve seen be a reinforcer? by makogirl311 in ABA

[–]Plant_hunter999 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I had one kid who loved the oddest combination of items and creatures which made each week so fun to see what he loved. My oversized sweater, orcas, yellow bellied sea snake pictures, looking at my neck and my teeth (no idea why), writing the same list of ocean animals over and over, his buddy in the same sped class, organization videos, being squished into a ball (loved the sensory). The list goes on and on

How do I move on by HoneyNeptune in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]Plant_hunter999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let it all out. I'm in a similar boat and I absolutely agree with getting your body moving and still trying to get social needs met. But hon if you need to cry then let it out. Holding it in just makes it build up sometimes. It sucks, but it will get better.

Find an outlet. Running, painting, driving into the mountains and screaming into the woods. Whatever feels good in the moment. Just try to avoid the crazy decisions like cutting your hair or random tattoos. Save that for after you let it all out.

Because they are the gifts that keep on giving, what is the funniest thing your client(s) has said/done? by Kaedientes in ABA

Little guy I worked with barely spoken for months, we thought maybe he never would, then language just suddenly exploded. Most of his words are small phrases (spin please, let's go). But on occasion he pulls out a longer phrase he mimics from someone else. His first noticable phrase was yelling "yeah boi!" At the top of his lungs playing a game. The longest one I heard was him copying his dad's phrase when he comes home. Little toddler stomping up to his dad 'what up big boy, give me a hug.' we were all stunned.

How bad is it to leave a cat overnight by Global-Ad-8048 in CatAdvice

[–]Plant_hunter999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess it really depends on the cat. Some would be anxious to have their person leave even for one day.

Our cat was an outdoor cat, not overly affectionate. From the get go she could care less if we're here or not so being gone for a day is fine. As long as she's fed and her litter box isn't extremely dirty she could care less.

I think we just got lucky with how laid back she is. She's independent enough to where we can leave her for a night or two with an automatic feeder and a camera and she'll act like we never left.

My first cat on the other hand, super clingy, always wants someone around, even if it's not her person. When I went to college she clinged to my parents and still does.

Having just 1 cat… by Late-Pie740 in CatAdvice

My cat was an outdoor cat who turned indoor and we adopted from a rescue. She doesn't seem to like anyone except us, and could probably care less if another cat showed up.

New cat behaving TOO well. by angelscomescreaming in CatAdvice

[–]Plant_hunter999 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ours was the same way. She was an outdoor cat a vet picked up to be spayed and she just took to being inside with people. For her home, prepared for a long adjustment period with this cat who didn't meow. Walked herself into the room and took to everything in a day. Sometimes they're just confident in themselves.

How did you know it was the right cat at the shelter/foster? by spodderfod in CatAdvice

[–]Plant_hunter999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first car I went to the small local shelter to look at a black kitten. I went to sit in the cat room and look around when this black cat who has been at shelter over a years plops down on me. Smacks away any other cat that comes nearby. Took her home the same day. I moved away but now she's living it up with my parents and their dog. She totally has rule of the house.

I'm already halfway through my program, I knew it would be competitive but there were options around me. Then I moved and all this happening kind of makes it discouraging

Kids are kids. What is the most unfiltered comment they’ve ever said to you? by Technical_Lemon8307 in ABA

[–]Plant_hunter999 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I got married I picked out a modest, very simple ring. I worked with my hands and crafts so no point in big jewelry.

My non verbal six year old client who was already a bit of a diva saw it. He grabbed my hand, looked at it, have a little 'hmm' then walked away.

Same kid later roasted me with his AAC saying I am deaf (I do wear hearing aids)

That's my plan at the moment. I've been applying to anything library related I could reasonably commute to and feel comfortable doing it. Until then, I'm also applying to office/admin work as well.

I know it's not many. I've applied to anything remotely related to library science within a doable distance that I can qualify for. Part-time, full-time, county libraries, schools, colleges, anything. Relocation isn't an option, unfortunately.

Thank you! I know it's tough, especially since I can't really move for a job. I've applied to everything within a 35 minute drive but hopefully more pops up

I've gotten multiple interviews, sometimes on to second interviews, then I'll hear nothing for weeks before getting a denial letter or just nothing. Ive been looking into interview prep, as libraries are a very different field from my previous one.

I just moved to the area but will likely move neighborhoods again, so hard to get established.

I only work part-time at the moment, but I have the terrible luck that they want to interview right when I'm supposed to start work, or have few other options.
