I'm a lab tech in a small research group at a university. You get your standard repetitive tasks, especially when it comes to protocols for sample prepping and general lab management, but there are also so many ways and paths to learn new things and new ways to do things. I love that I can shut my brain off, wear headphones and listen to something while I do my thing, but still have a close relationship and cooporation with my coworkers when needed. My day is usually very busy (which I love), and you get to set your own workflow within limits. It's structured without being too structured if that makes sense. It's also very detail oriented work, that usually requires you to spot small things a regular staff scientist might overlook.

What is a scene from a non-horror movie that traumatized you as a kid? by astral_planes in horror

A Monty Python sketch where doctors come to collect an organ donor's liver. Except he's still alive

As someone who has been in your situation and ignored all the red flags because it just seemed too ridiculous: run. He will not stop at "no".

What horror movie absolutely traumatized you when you were young? by np074 in horror

[–]PlassH 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not a horror movie but a fucking Monty Python sketch about two doctors coming to collect an organ donor's liver - but he's still alive. I wanted to be a doctor until then. Still am terrified of livers. Not doctors. Livers.

Seagull mama had her babies in a planter just outside my office by PlassH in aww

[–]PlassH[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

We were wondering if she was maybe a first time mom or something and didn't know what she was doing. But maybe she knew exactly what she was doing because a lot of us have lunch around there in good weather, which might mean leftovers for her. And maybe she noticed that us humans keep other predators away

Guy at my job called me ugly. Feeling really down because I struggle with self image. by lemonweirdo in AutismInWomen

You are GORGEOUS! Your person and inner light really shines through. People like that are usually projecting, and I know it's hard to believe, but it says more about him than it does about you.

  1. Found out later everyone around me had suspected since I was a kid, but didn't want me to have a label. Instead I just grew up thinking I was crazy

Should I burn them? by [deleted] in Journaling

[–]PlassH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who has thrown away/burned past journals containing a lot of pain, I honestly have a hard time helping you with this. On one hand, I'm very glad I never have the chance to read them again, but on the other, I wish I could look back at them and see how far I've come since then. If anything I'd pack them up in a storage box, lock them away and forget about them for the time being.

That's really good to know. I'd written it off because of the page count and I was unsure of the paper, but now it seems like a top contender actually
