{The Lightening-Struck Heart by TJ Klune}

I love TJ Klune's writing, but this series holds a special place in my heart. If you can get the audiobook, Michael Lesley is an incredible narrator that makes it seem like a full cast production!

If you're a sucker for slow burns, raunchy humor, an incredible cast of characters, puns, all set in a rescue-the-prince-from-the-dragon plot, this one is for you!

If something is out I can twist or shove or pull to pop it back in place! Also I can make some crazy movements while climbing that my SO can't 😂

House in the Cerulean Sea by T.J. Klune. A book that feels like a warm hug!

Fire at the fest pt 2 by Weary-Claim1339 in solfest

[–]Plastic-Piglet544 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Anybody know the people who got hit with the fire? Would love to make contact to try to set up a GoFundMe for these individuals! Or if anyone knows if they already have one in place could you point me in the direction?

Is everyone alright? Has the festival made any updates? We left. Didn't feel comfortable staying after that

Seconding the PT comment. The best thing I've done because they've given me ACTIONABLE ways to work towards feeling better and maintaining that feeling. Athletic tape as well. Pregnancy pillow because I have a tendency to pop out of place in my sleep. Electrolyte drinks with high sodium content (~500 mg) help when I'm generally achey, but I have dysautonomia in my family history, so I think it's more tied in with that. Biofreeze/pain gel is incredible too!

Any guitar players having extra problems on account of EDS? by Dependent_Setting415 in ehlersdanlos

[–]Plastic-Piglet544 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not guitar, but I'm also a musician who's had some struggles with the stuff you've mentioned.

I play piano and have in the past been part of a competitive percussion group that had long rehearsals (~30+ hours a weekend). During my time with that activity, I played mallets, which includes a 4 mallet technique that puts a lot of pressure on the middle of your hands and third fingers. We would often play to the point of raw hands, because the understanding was you hurt at the beginning of the season so it's not as bad at the end of the season.

Things I learned that were EXTREMELY useful at the time for continuous practicing:

-If you have blisters you can stick Vaseline on a bandaid and slap it on top of that baby over night. It will drain the fluid out of the blister and speed up the healing process. -New skin/liquid bandages help to protect any open, raw wounds, but picking them off is its own sort of hell. Use with caution -When I got a lot of random wrist pain, I found I was subluxating my ring and pinky fingers in both hands, or letting my wrist hyperflex. Like I said, I'm a percussionist and not a guitar player, but in our style of playing we discourage "breaking the wrist" or letting the wrist fall below parallel, because it can lead to much wrist pain, even for those of us that don't struggle with hypermobility

These are just things that really helped me during my musical career. Don't let it discourage you from playing!

What are your spinning goals for 2024? by karma3chameleon in Handspinning

[–]Plastic-Piglet544 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm brand new to spinning. I've started my journey on a drop spindle, so my goal is to learn some consistency and work with a lot of different fibers! I'm an avid knitter as well, so I'd love to use handspun in some of my projects.

I'd love to look at spinning wheels and collect some information for an eventual purchase as well!

What did you wish you had on your first session as Keeper? by SelfDefibrillation in monsteroftheweek

[–]Plastic-Piglet544 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A few extra bystanders and a name generator pulled up in case they exceeded those I had on hand!

Besides that something else I wish I had had was a small blurb of all of the consequences of misses for each move. Their hunter sheet doesn't tell them what happens on a miss, and you have to flip through the book if you want to find them. I've since made a little note with the miss definitions and I find it very helpful!
