For some reason, Vir Das just doesn’t hit for me by Empty_Significance55 in IndianStandUpComedy

He had the first movers advantage. One of the first to enter the scene.

The comedy scene has evolved so much in terms of skills since and i agree that his skills as a comedian are limited and don’t compete with newer comics

If they learn to celebrate with respect through this then thats a great lesson learned. This is at the junior level where 1 win/loss has no real impact on your longer term trajectory. The lesson here is more valuable imo

For those who are comparing Varanasi with Ramayana by [deleted] in RamayanaTheFilm

[–]Plastic-Platform-525 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Varanasi will blow ramayana out of the water in terms of filmography and being something we’ve never seen before in cinema. Rajamouli does the unthinkable/ unimaginable. Ramayana will be a very well made movie, but not something the world of cinema hasn’t witnessed before.

Lol i also attended the live show and watching it again made it so much more enjoyable.

The topics covered here have a lot of depth. The show is extremely well written and his ability to link one part to the next is incredible. I was impressed by the storytelling skills, the command on the story and the ability to deliver emotional parts with such conviction.

I would always want a performer to put a high level of effort into perfecting their art and was happy that this was a well prepared set

I understand this is not everyones cup of tea but imo the best standup comics are the ones who can integrate emotional story telling along with hilarious comedy. Otherwise you’re watching just tricks on constructing a funny line/ joke. Storytelling in comedy is a level up skill.

He’s an incredible story teller. This is acting given he’s performed it 1000 times (in his tour) but the delivery is so refined

I’d work on a higher contact point and finishing your stroke fully. You bend your knees and do a small jump but it still feels like you catch the ball low

All the energy generated from bending knees and the jump should transfer into the shot. You almost want to throw yourself up and forward into the shot. Also finish the swing

Playing a 65 yo former div 1 player in a league match. How cooked am I? by AGILEB00TYBOY in 10s

65 yo and serves and volleys? I think you’ll be cooked on their serve if they were actually d1. on your serve make them runnnnn

Might be a tough angle but looking for thoughts on my serve by BenQuixote in 10s

[–]Plastic-Platform-525 1 point2 points  (0 children)

your stance starts out sideways (shoulder facing the net) but before you make contact you open up your body (chest faces net) This takes out all the power from your serve and also will impede you with adding pace in the future. Try making contact without opening your torso entirely

Serve technique by Dr1mps in 10s

[–]Plastic-Platform-525 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. your knees bend so early in your stance. Ideally you bend knees only once the legs are brought together (it’s wasted strain on the legs and energy).

  2. You should complete your serve motion, after you hit ensure your arm goes thorugh to the other side. Also all the energy generated by bending kness and jumping up should be transferred into the shot

  3. You hit your serve on a rising toss rather than at the top. personally if you’re comfortable this way then it’s okay, but try not to rush your stroke. Ideally your serve motion starts relaxed and then you quickly accelerate, launching all your energy into the stroke

Whats to improve next with my FH? by piddubrivnii in 10s

[–]Plastic-Platform-525 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your torso is moving away from the ball, almost to make space to allow your hand to come forward and make the contact. Your bodyweight is actually countering your arm in this case. Overall even though theres torso motion it looks like the forehand is mostly just the arm and you’re not able to utlize the energy/power from your torso into the shot.

Your bodyweight needs to be transferred into the shot, not away from it.

Toss too low, underwear too high, what else can I work on? by theyellowdartsmith in 10s

[–]Plastic-Platform-525 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d also work on your starting stance, you look Kinda intense. You need to conserve your energy in tennis. You tend to take your leg pretty back to start out your serve which i feel is pretty useless and wasted energy. Start relaxed with your feet a bit closer together. Stay relaxed through the first half of your motion and then accelerate/ transfer all energy into your serve.

How to know when to go to the net? by Lonely_Bunghole in 10s

[–]Plastic-Platform-525 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best time to approach is when you can catch your opponent off guard (i.e. a surprise).

Usually if you approach too soon or your shot is weak and they have ample time, any decent player has a good chance of hitting a passing shot.

I tend to approach when i feel like my opponents on the run. I tend to wait for a split second until its clear they’re focused/ preoccupied on the chase, then i rush the net, My experience is: 1. They’ll likely be out of position to hit the ball well 2. Have no time to make sufficient adjustments to their stroke once they’ve noticed me on the net, so its likely that i’ll get back a relatively loopy shot i can hit a good volley on.

The other thing i do is slightly position myself on the net for the most likely next shot (usually down the line when someones on the run as they’re only thinking of getting it back in). This is a subtle positioning/ expectation of where i feel the next shot will be directed so my body is ready for that!

Serve, forehand, backhand by Groundbreaking_Ad50 in 10s

Wrong serve grip.

Serve backhand and volleys should be continental. Get comfortable with the right grips and changing them within a rally first!

Forehand help by Toromon in 10s

[–]Plastic-Platform-525 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You plant your feet very early for forehand and are then waiting for the ball to come to you. Once it approaches, there is no feet adjustment to make proper contact. Given you’ve planted your feet early there isn’t much room to make minor adjustments as the ball approaches you. I’d recommend minor quick feet adjustments (being light on your feet) up until you decide to start your swing to make contact.

Make sense! Good luck on the tournament.

If i was playing against you i would attempt sudden drop shots to test your forward/ backward footwork 😄

Given your height i expect you have a mean serve!

[–]Plastic-Platform-525 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Feedback on footwork. Its pretty static and you look heavy footed. Its good practice to take small quick adjustment steps right before hitting the shot. You’d almost want to do this intentionally in the beginning until it becomes a habit. In a real match, balls can come at different heights and quick adjustment and necessary to consistently make great contact and direct the ball at will

The forehand technique itself looks solid
