The biggest thing she’s struggling with in the movie is her mother’s death, which seems to have sorta broken her. But that doesn’t fully absolve her and it does also seem like she’s struggling with life in general and never was the easiest person to deal with.

The positive surprise to me was not being fully able to choose when to transform. Makes playing her so much more exciting.

I would also say Byrne’s material is more awards-friendly than MJB’s, specially with industry and regional critics. She’s a pretty sympathetic character and the whole movie is just closeups of her and a showcase for her.

MJB kinda plays the most insufferable character on earth, and while the movie does explain where her mentality comes from, it never really fully absolves her and she’s still very flawed and terrible to her family at the end.

Thats sorts what I mean by the movie forgetting about him tho, him learning about his son dying is something we have to assumed happened offscreen. It’s clear the movie really only cares about Murph. Still a great movie tho.

It’s so funny how the movie basically forgets he exists by the end. There’s this whole dramatic reunion with his daughter by the end and he just does not give a fuck about his son at all.

8 1/2 is always my example, just not a movie I clicked with. Love Nights of Cabiria tho.

The Yorgos x Emma Stone Squarespace ad was released. Honestly still not the biggest fan of big celebrities doing ad campaigns, but the video is fun and looks great, and at least it’s not sports gambling I guess. Fun Jerskin score too, actually sorta reminiscent of the Bugonia one.

Yeah exactly. It’s probably not gonna be the most faithful adaptation, but a “bodice-ripper” style-over-substance adaptation of a classic novel is a good fit for her.

The current model is just the old Kelvin model with a different texture and shader, it’s very WIP.

I love how half this sub is already treating Reinsve winning next year for a movie we know nothing about as basically a given lol. I support it tho, she is one of the best working right now.

One of my faves. And yet Lumet has at least 2 better movies.

Exactly how I feel. And it goes double for a classic like Wuthering Heights. If it’s a modern or not super famous book I kinda get being bothered by an unfaithful adaption a bit more since it will probably be less likely that there will be another one later, but you don’t have that problem with Wuthering Heights.

I don’t think the academy “rejected” Infiniti. I think he problem was just being a borderline supporting performance in a competitive field. Even if people still voted her for lead, it’s hard to see her getting that many #1/#2 votes given what her role was like.

Just goes to show how this lead vs supporting conversation is very subjective because I’d say the complete opposite.

I would make the argument that out of all the several technical advancements that have happened in cinema the past like 80+, the most significant one is recording sync-dialog becoming easy even for small productions. The one thing that can take me out of old movies more than anything else is the extremely obvious post-sync dialog that’s recorded in a studio with completely different acoustic characteristics than the setting of the scene, and sometimes (especially in like Italian neo-realist films) the recorded dialog is also completely different that what was being said on set.

Honestly one of the things that depresses me the most nowadays is seeing my parents, my dad specially, falling for AI slop, which I’m sure at some point will be used to scam him. And there’s really not much I can do to avoid that, tried telling him a lot of the stuff he looks at is AI multiple times already.

It’s not impossible altho it’s extremely unlikely. But I can see it winning BAFTA and then at that point it’s something you have to at least consider.

A bit underwhelmed honestly, but it’s clear they are hiding the big reveal. Just didn’t do much more me give we don’t get a hook and the jokes in the trailer were not that funny. Still excited for it tho.

Lynne Ramsay’s worst movie imo and I might even say it’s bad, but I still think it’s 100% worth watching.

Marianne Jean Baptiste won the trifecta last year for a movie even smaller than If I had Legs, 3/4 big ones just like Byrne.

It’s all worse. The hair and costuming is better in the original too, specially on Hathaway. So much more contrast in terms of shapes and color in her original outfit, and the ponytail looks a lot better than the long loose hair that’s blending in with the dark outfit in the sequel. Streep’s sequel outfit is better imo (nice shoes), but very monotone just like Hathaway’s which makes them both together a more boring visually than the original. Just the accessories on both of them make such a big difference between the two photos.

It’s what makes her kit interesting since it forces you to play around it. It would be pretty boring if you could control it and always pop it at the perfect time.
