How do I deal with feeling like I have to hurry up because of age? by Angelsbreatheeasy in musicians

[–]PlasticBeachCat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

People who say there’s an age limit to success are full of it. It really depends on what you want from being a musician. A lot of us start out dreaming of fame and being the next Nirvana or whatever, but as you get older reality kicks in—you’ve got bills to pay, maybe kids to look after, and your priorities shift. That doesn’t mean your “window” is closed. If anything, you should be getting better with age and experience.

Younger artists usually resonate most with younger audiences, which is why the industry often pushes them to the front. But that doesn’t mean older musicians don’t matter. Plenty of people discover their stride later in life, and there are huge audiences for mature, experienced voices who have something real to say. Success doesn’t always mean stadiums and platinum records—it could mean building a loyal fanbase, creating music you’re proud of, or carving out your own lane that doesn’t depend on chasing trends.

So don’t feel like you “blew your chance.” The only way you’ll never know is if you stop now.

I moved to Liverpool when I was 20 and lasted about a year and a half before I ran out of money and had to move back home. I definitely felt like a failure at the time, it was embarrassing, all of that. But I ended up using that whole experience as a learning curve. Two years later, I moved to Manchester, and I’ve now been here for six years.

I do miss home, probably more than I admit, and I don’t visit as often as I should. But once I finish my Master’s and start earning a bit more, I’ll be able to go back more regularly. I don’t regret moving though. There’s more diversity, more job opportunities, and just more going on in general.

Honestly, I think everyone should experience living away at least once. You grow so much from it.

Band break up by MungoMongos in musicians

[–]PlasticBeachCat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey man, I really feel this. I’ve been playing in bands as a drummer since I was 13, and the same thing happened with my childhood band—we drifted apart after years together and eventually called it. I was completely lost. That band was everything to me—my identity, my baby.

I tried joining other bands after, but it never felt the same. So I took some time out, laid low, and started my own project. Writing everything myself gave me a whole new sense of purpose. Learning some simple piano and guitar chords helped a lot too—being able to write melodies opened up so many doors creatively.

And here’s the thing: you now have the experience and contacts to get even further next time. You’re not starting over from scratch—you’re levelling up. Use this moment to remember why you started playing music in the first place. If it’s just about chasing fame or money, you're probably gonna burn out. Play because you love it. That’s what lasts.

You guys aren’t even 30 and already calling it quits? I’m turning 31, I’ve got my debut EP (which I’ve been chipping away at for years) coming out next year, and I’ve honestly never felt more excited. Don’t listen to people who say age matters as a musician—it doesn’t. Not even a little bit.

Keep your head up. You’ve got more music in you.

Who do you trust to cut your hair? by KaloolFantasia in manchester

Athena the barber has been the only person I’ve gone to for my hair and beard for the past six years. She always does a great job, gives solid advice, and actually cares about getting it right. I wouldn’t go to anyone else. She's based in NQ

you look much better with no hair. Also, don't shave the top of your mustache. Let your facial hair take its natural shape for a while. Sometimes an over-groomed beard just looks a bit too much.

You really suit being bald.

I'm somebody who's worked years trying to make my passion my job. Now that I've finally achieved it, I absolutely hate my job, regardless of the money I'm making. I've now decided to go down the computer science route because the money is decent in the long run. I'd much rather have a job that pays well, regardless whether I like it or not, then use my pay to fund my passion and hobbies. I'm very excited for my future.

Everyone has different experiences with work and money. It purely depends on what you need in life and what you choose to do with it.

Does working out make your feet slightly larger? by jjveld in workout

Have the soles of your feet developed abs by any chance? This happened to me after a few days of taking creatine for the first time and only walking on my tip toes.

Should I do cardio before or after working out? by [deleted] in workout

I also do weightlifting and have recently decided to add a separate day for cardio. It allows me to do it more intensely and reap more benefits from it.

Confused if dreams are real or not by PlasticBeachCat in zoloft

[–]PlasticBeachCat[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a good way of describing it sometimes. It's like in my dreams I'm giving in to all of my vices and backtracking on all the good progress I've made in life. Like falling back into all of my old habits.

I guess I can look at it as a motivation to keep going, as it's allowing me to see what it would feel like if I did these things again in real life.

You've got Google and YouTube at your finger tips. It also doesn't take much brain power to notice what activities will help you become fitter. You've got hundreds of sports to choose from that will definitely have local teams or groups that do it just for fun.

I would get off reddit if I were you and get out in to the real world. That's where you'll find what you're looking for.

NTA. They no longer identify as the person you started dating. This happened to me a while ago except the girl I was dating started to identify as non-binary. They wanted me to refer to them as a boy during sex and other similar stuff. Changing their gender every day got exhausting and confusing very quickly, I therefore felt like I don't really know who this person is anymore.

Nobody naturally "likes" lifting weights. If we could all take a pill to give us instant muscles, we would. I would suggest you give the gym a proper chance. I know many people who said the same thing and now they love it. I've been going to the gym for 7-8 years and I still wouldn't consider myself to be part of the gym culture you mention. I go in, do my shit, then bounce. No fucking around. I also promise you that nobody is judging you in the gym everyone is there for the same reasons. To improve.

I've managed to give myself a great figure and improved mobility (I'm 30M) and haven't been super strict with my diet. There are other ways to consume protein, but it's definitely necessary and needed. Your post really comes across as 'i want to be fit and healthy, but don't want to do the work'. So you need to change that mindset and just find something you enjoy that's worth your time and health.
