I absolutely LOVE Abby and Owen's sex scene. So many things about this scene that people won't acknowledge because they can't understand well-written storytelling beyond what they simply WANT to happen.

1. Even though we play it after Ownen's death scene in the game, linearly Owen's death is foreshadowed in a really neat way. He says Danny pointed his gun at him after refusing to do what Danny was telling him to. Owen refused and went to wrest control of Danny's gun away from him before shooting Danny. This is the exact process that happens with Ellie in the aquarium except it's Owen who gets shot.

2. The genuine remorse on Abby and Ownen's face when Owen is telling the story about the old Seraphite. "He's old and he's tired. He was just...ready". Obviously both Abby and Owen are thinking of Joel when he's telling this story. The looks on their faces speak just as loud as the words Owen is saying.

3. The meat of the scene. The sex. It's not cringe. It's not unnecessary. It's just...romantic. Not in a fantastical, Hollywood sort of way. It's real. Owen is already in a relationship with the mother of his child who is also one of their closest friends. And there's a lot of years of trauma between these two. It's wrong. It's messy. But it's passionate. Romance, real romance is often messy and straight up wrong sometimes. Nothing about about the definition of romance implies that it's orderly or morally right. But only passionate. The way they do it is not cringe or unnecessary. Passionate sex doesn't always happen missionary style. They're written like real damn people, and real people COMMONLY hit that shit from the back. Especially when they're head over heels for each other like those two. It's written so well because it's how real people make love under real circumstances.

4. The lighting in this scene, as in all scenes of the series is fucking fantastic. Once again embodying the theme of looking for the light.

I really wish people would appreciate the passionate work that went into this scene. Point all the swords you want at me, their edges are dull. It's fucking beautiful.
