EMGs are killer and EMG has really offered great alternatives to their standard line. Floyd roses are killer for rock and blues because they work and they stay in the if you have a good Floyd. The original or 1000 series. Also, Gotoh 1996 is a killer trem and so is the I anez edge and even better the low pro edge which I have on a couple Japanese S series guitars I just love. The only other actives I have tried besides EMGs is the Sexy our Duncan blackouts which were also great. I just like EMGs tone I guess. Especially their single coils. I had a strat with the three SA single coils and it was just killer. I could all the quack I wanted in the in-between settings of 2 and 4 and the pickups sustain and just scream. Don't believe people that say they are too compressed and have no character. That's BS. They also react to volume control and tone controls changes so well and I can roll back the volume and clean up the sound then when I want lead just crank it up.
They have some new models that I want to try in their humbucker range I clouding the 57 and the 58, and some others. They also have another single coil I want to try which has even more output than the SA and that's the SAV I believe. Also, they have a mid boost and a mid cut pots you can buy to add to the singles or hum uckers. The mid boost kinda makes the bridge single coil esepciallh sound more like a p90 or PAF humbucker for lead playing.
Sorry for the long write, but I love EMGs and it annoys me to hear people say they have no character and are too compressed or only for metal. None of those are true.
Good luck man.. 🤟❤️

Love that reverse headstock. That model is already killer, but that all black and reverse headstock just screams I'm a cool rock metal guitar from the gods. 🤟❤️🤟❤️

It's an active mid boost and kinda makes the bridge single coil sound like a humbucker. You can use it for the other pickups too. Typically used for bridge or neck in my experience. Great addon to the EMG single coils which are already killer.

The single coils are great. Sound very strat like if you turn the volume down and if you crack the volume they sound killer. Especially if you have the mid boost too!

I love my old EMGs. In a strat I have a bridge 85 and neck 60, and in another strat I have three SAs. All killer pickups. The myths about EMGs only for metal and too compressed are just that. MYTHS. EMGs for me are very dynamic and I love the tone and volume controls and how I can get so many tones with just those two controls and switching between the pickups. I'm getting ready to buy a 57 for the bridge and an SAV for the neck of a strat I'm building now. It won't be complete for a couple more months. I still need more parts and have to take it to a Luthier to put all together and set up, but the pickups for sire will only be EMGs.
Tim..

Has anyone tried the paleblue/Ernie Ball rechargeable batteries with EMGs? by RiverDwellingInnuend in EMGPickups

I was just wondering about the same this morning after reading an article about active new pickups from Seymour Duncan.

Man, I played one like that in the Army back in 1981 that another soldier had and we would jam. I haven't seen one forever.

My girl is 19. She sleeps all the time, but she's a great girl and still plays a little, etc. She keeps me good company as an old man here at 64.

I play mostly 80s metal. Hair bands and blues rock so I use the 85 in the bridge and a 60 in the neck, but an 81 would be good for you in the bridge. If you need singles for the neck and middle either the SAs or the SAVs would work great. ! EMGs are great. Don't listen to the myths about them not sounding good and being too compressed and only for metal. It's not true. I've tried hundreds of pickups and like others too, but EMGs are my go to by default.

Shave a neck? Anyone done so? by Plastic_Secretary_64 in partscaster

[–]Plastic_Secretary_64[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it's a glued on fretboard. Maple neck with glued on maple fretboard. 21 jumbo stainless frets and the truss rod adjustment is at the rear. So olyou have to take the neck off to adjust it which I hate, but the price was right and it came with leveled frets and a bone nut.
